        Re: Swing Meter

I find that I play better when I turn both swing meters off, and rely on the haptic feedback for when I've reached the desired backswing distance. It actually starts vibrating a few degrees before you've reached the actual target, based on comparing it to the swing meter, but after a while, you develop a sense for factoring it in. The meter distracts me and takes me out of the moment, because I'm watching it instead of my golfer.

I completely agree. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what constitutes a "smooth" swing. Some swings I'll feel like I was really slow, but the meter will say "very fast" and vice versa. I just can't figure it out and the more I try the more out of sync I become.

I played a round was was like -12 on pro, hit every fw swing was pretty good for the most part. I goto the next event at copperhead and barely had any perfect tempos the whole round. Several shots were registering slow when there is no way they were slow I have around 40 hours into the game and I have a decent feel for a poor swing. It was very frustrating to say the least. Even doing practice swings it was all over the place. Not sure if it was the course or server or what, but it was definitely off.

Wonder if it ever crossed your mind that maybe your swing was off? Why does it always have the be a problem with the game? How do you know you're swing is exactly the same from round to round? The swing meter changes from a good shot to a not so good shot are subtle, very subtle. Thus, very conceivably, it could be you-- your swing is just off. I mean, is it even possible to have a consistent meter swing from round to round. If it were, this game would not be as challenging as it is.

That is one of the things that make me like this game even more as a golfer. Some days out on the course everything clicks and it feels almost automatic. Other days tempo might be a little off and it causes you to pull and/or push everything so you either start aiming right/left or you try and make adjustments to correct your swing flaw.

I have gotten my tempo down in the game to where I can hit perfect timing about 35%-50% of the time, and if not I'm usually fast. So I play the course knowing that my typical miss is going to be left of target. It makes course management an even bigger part of the game. It is such a close representation of the real game and I'm truly excited to see how they build on it in the future.

If you don't like it then there are so many options to tweak in the settings to make it as point and shoot as you want it to be.

Like I said I have close to 40 hours into the game and have a decent feel on when I make a bad swing. When I slam the stick forward almost as fast as I can and I register a slow swing something is wrong. When I take 20 practice swings and the swing is all over the place and cant get it tuned it at all then something is wrong. I have had rounds where I did not score well and it was certainly all on me, but then there are rounds where something is screwey. I am guessing it has to do with the servers where the swing lags a bit resulting in a lot of slows....

Ive gotten into the habit of doing a swing calibration once every couple days. It helps. Also tap R3 and you’ll go into a practice swing mode to get that temp. I think that feature gets overlooked.

What happened to the putting?! The meter doesn’t respond well to the controller. This sucks!

I noticed a difference in putting too. I used to go really slow back and forth, now I have to go at a steady pace. With the slow motion I had a few putts where i was still pushing forward and got like half power of what I wanted.

                            Re: Swing Meter

I play on Master, and am typically somewhere around par.

As for the meter, I've found that it is better just to turn its representation off. I was too much obsessed with checking out my swing, which turned out to be quite distracting, as I attempted to make adjustments.

It's not too difficult to tell where your swing went wrong, without having the results shown. But I find myself more relaxed, not having to actually see what went wrong.

As for the swing mechanics, I don't think the developers implemented this correctly. I mean, the problem is that, in the first place, the reason for going to calibration is usually because of erratic results. Then once on the calibration they expect consistency. The calibration should be more of an aggregate sweet spot, no matter how subtle. And even the way it now stands, I've hit consistent shots, landing pretty much in the same spot. But then out on the course, there doesn't seem to be much of a change to the way it was before calibrating.

I admit that this game is fun and challenging. Most reviews on Steam are pretty positive. The problem is that the game is full of nagging bugs. It's been three weeks now since release, and the only patch-- a small one at that-- had to do with stability issues. There are still a lot of things wrong, the most glaring of which, is the need for online stroke play. Why they didn't include this in the initial release is beyond me.
