They haven't fixed hardly any issues, especially ones related to career mode. They don't communicate about anything - 2K or HB Studios. 2K Support is worthless...I've reached out to them multiple times about blue screen crashes on PS4, the career mode score glitches, etc., and it's the same canned responses each time.

I have enjoyed this game, especially creating courses, but I've given up on career mode and even trying to play online.

PGA 2K21 is fine, and it probably is still my favorite console golf game after Tiger Woods 14. But it's lacking in several areas and I, for one, am not sold on any future games released by the same publisher/developer combo. If they tack on lots more paid DLC, then that really seals the deal for me.

It's great that 2K21 has sold well. But they best not rest on their laurels when their next game comes out.
Well like I said, hopefully the new game comes with a new engine and those flaws get addressed.
And I agree that they better not rest on their laurels.
But as far as the communication thing goes... EA is no better. In fact I would say they are worse.
I don’t play random matchmaking online games. I play with people I know online. All different modes, with 4 players most times and the crashes game hardly has ever happened to me.

I'm not saying that 2K can't catch lightning in a bottle twice and make PGA 2K22 or 2K23 or whatever it will be called a good game, one that will sell well once again. But I do think there were outside factors at play that helped 2K21 become more popular than even 2K expected.
      Great points...

They are also points that 2K is likely internally discussing...

Shell out money and reinvest or just pump out DLC, ride the wave and enjoy the unexpected windfall from this one off situation?

Should be interesting to see what they choose.

I don't think 2K is doing much in this. It's practically the same HB game, a little bit better graphics, bit more contents, and finally put difficulty level replacing the 3 clubs. 2K is the publisher, putting their name on the game, did the advertisement campaign before the game was released. As the publisher, they're just getting a cut in game sold for the little work they've done.

Gotta get to "$2k" (per customer) somehow!

I am glad the game is selling so well. For my money it isn't really a PGA game if you can't play as the pros. The game play is OK the putting is great and the course creator puts it over the top. IF EA were to get involved again I would think the absence of user created courses would be a big negative. That said unless the next EA effort was straight garbage I would buy it providing there were more than a scant couple of dozen courses in the game. I have gotten plenty of value for what I paid.

I think twitch had a huge impact, I believe there were a few big time streamers that picked up the game and streamed it regularly.

I agree that the Twitch streamers were definitely part of that. They were the only source of info for 2K21 until it launched. Without the streams that those folks did, we'd have had next to no actual gameplay footage prior to the game coming out.

The other entity that had a hand in the popularity of this game was Barstool Sports and their Fore Play podcast. No matter how you feel about them, they seem to have contributed a lot of players to this game. I mean, one of the guys from there created a course with the help of CrazyCanuck1985 from TGC Tours and released it just a week or so ago. It had something like 25,000 plays within a day just on PS4, as it was used as part of the Barstool 2K21 society, I think.

Re: PGA TOUR 2K21 - 2 Million Copies Sold

Hopefully the fact that the game has now sold over 2 million copies across all platforms, it will qualify to be placed on Microsoft's newly announced "FPS Boost" list of feature games, wherein Microsoft will go in and update older games to double their frame rate, via a switch that the user can toggle via the pop-up screen that appears for the game when you press the XBox button on your controller.

Here's a link to the article I read today at "The Verge"... now we won't have to wait on HB Studios to make 60 FPS happen on the Series X

I'm still playing the game almost daily, but only on my PC, where I can play it at 60 FPS. I miss my XBox One friends though and I like the looks and the sounds of the game better on the Series X, but it all comes to a thud at 30 FPS, once you've tasted 60! This will bring me back to the XBox Series X if and when this happens!

So is this a game you guys would still recommend picking up, now?

I play on PC, and I have TGC 2019, I'm just not sure if the new iteration brings enough to the table to warrant the purchase.

I've actually been debating since 2K21 released last year, and with spring fast approaching, I'm getting that golf itch. So here I am debating... again.

It is currently $29.99 on Steam. I'd prefer playing online against human competition over the AI. I just worry that career mode won't hold my attention for that long and that multiplayer is either dead or mostly elite players in Societies.

$30 is reasonable for this game, IMO. Online play can be a bit questionable at times, but I've been able to consistently get into public matchmaking games recently. There seem to be plenty of people playing online, so that doesn't seem to be a problem. That said, the servers have their up and down moments. And since this whole game is basically contained server-side, you will likely see issues from time to time. This also means problems with "offline" things like career mode, as you need to be online and connected to even play that.

Speaking of Career Mode, my guess is that it will not hold your attention, unless you're OK with wonky leaderboards that are not very realistic or change from round to round and event to event. I recently gave career mode another try after being away from it for months, and I played the fake Masters event. The cut line there is so messed up that no one actually got cut - the entire field played each and every round. Things like that.

Societies are fun, active, and you can pretty much find one that you'll enjoy playing in. However, as you mentioned, scores in them can get crazy low. I'd try playing TGC Tours to play with others who are at the same level as you.

But the gameplay is fine, building courses is still great (if you're into that side of the game), and there are a ton of amazing user created courses to play.

All in all, $30-40 is probably what this game is worth in my opinion, so I would recommend it at $29.99.

Good to hear that matchmaking is still viable, not sure if you were referring to PC or console. Player count on Steam seems to be 800-1,100 players...which seems really low, but I guess it's enough to sustain 4-player matches (are they all 2v2?).

And that's a good point with the Societies, I should browse for one before purchasing to try and find something in my skill range.

I play on PS4, so I can only speak to that side of things. I think there are online match options for 4 players that are either 1v1v1v1 or 2v2. There are also just 1v1 head to head options, too. I usually just play the quick 3-hole stroke play match online where it's everyone for themselves.

I don't think PGA TOUR 2K21 will be getting a full blown next-gen upgrade, but I now strongly suspect it will get the FPS Boost treatment via Microsoft's new feature. Being able to play this game at 60 FPS transforms it into a new game experience for me. I play it at that frame rate on my PC and the tempo dependent swing gets so much more feedback at 60 FPS versus the 30 it's now getting on the Series X. It makes the game so much more playable, IMO.

The Auto HDR that the Series X provides works wonderfully with 2K21. I can't think of a game I own that benefits more from it. I think when you couple Auto HDR with FSP Boost, you're going to have an almost next-gen version of 2K21.

HB Studios is going to be providing new DLC next month and it's rumored that HB Studios might be including an option to turn off the frame rate cap for the Series X as part of that update. I don't care whether it's Microsoft of HB Studios who takes the frame rate shackles off of this game, I just want them off. I think by April that will be the case.
