Agree with this, although I think just to add some color, it matters HOW the game is being made difficult. In the Rory game, difficulty was basically dictated just by the wind, so stronger wind = more difficult. But there was no other difficulty other than that.

There needs to be a way to make the swing mechanism more difficult without making it gimmicky or random. And also, the lie of the ball has to factor in more to each shot. For example, if you leave yourself short-sided with a downhill lie in a greenside bunker, there should be no way you can spin the ball whatsoever, and the closest possible shot should be clear on the other side of the green (if you even get the ball out of the trap at all). Positional difficulty is what matters in real golf, and what makes courses that seem easy visually like Oakmont or Oakland Hills (no real water hazards or thickly tree-lined areas) actually ultra-hard in real life. Short-siding yourself or missing fairways can (and do) cost you strokes at those kinds of courses. You shouldn't be able to bail yourself out of trouble with unrealistic flop shots from terrible lies (or, if you do elect to go for a high-risk shot like that, the possibility of thinning it clear over the green should come into play).

For British Open courses, on the other hand, wind is definitely the major factor in difficulty, so I'm okay with it being the primary source of difficulty there.

        ^^ Great post

I really want the conditions and the lie and shot selection and how you work around a course to impact difficulty in a meaningful way.

I don't know if they'll have the rights to the Ryder Cup itself, but I wouldn't be shocked to see an announcement that Whistling Straits is in. They had the Ryder Cup officially in Tiger Woods 11, but gave up on it after that one year if I remember correctly (aside from The Masters, TW 12 had the Presidents Cup).

But if they do get the Ryder Cup and Whistling Straits, plus have all four majors, plus The Players, plus the FedEx Cup, plus the LPGA, plus the US Am, plus the Korn Ferry Tour...wow.

The trick with having the Ryder Cup would be having enough of the real pros from those geographic regions to make up two proper teams. I seem to remember in TW 11 that you had to have pros from Australia and other non-European regions to fill out Europe's team. And I also think you had to have co-ed teams as well, because there weren't enough male pros on either side to make complete teams.
