PGA Tour 2K21 Patch - New Swing Changes (9/27/21)

It appears a patch was released for PGA 2K21 yesterday (9/27/21) that changes the swing a bit again.

Patch notes had no details (here's my shocked face), but some tweaks have been done to red fasts, partial shots, etc. Red fasts travel farther off the tee and are less penalized, while partial splashes don't get duffed and stay in the sand on poor tempo shots.

Hilarious timing, given that TGC Tours just started season 8 with swing adjusted to Pro difficulty.

Probably the rumors are true, and they've made the changes just in time for the game being downloaded free for PS plus customers. I'll probably get it too if that's the case.

This is a good thing, yeah?

I'm not a 2k'er, but the swing has been something people weren't happy about the last couple months right?

Does it fix all the complaints?

A good thing, yes. But the timing is crap for TGC Tours play, as they dropped down to Pro difficulty. This swing change caught everyone off guard, and now TGCT settings play so easy it's not really fun either.

I just played in my first rounds in TGCT since May or something like that, and shot 59-64 for a score of -21 after two rounds. The cut line in my CC-I flight is at -9. The CC-A cut line is at -18!

Good to see some things never change

I can remember back in the day when I actually played EA Hockey that you could choose to play with whatever tuner you wanted. Does HB find this impossible to do or WTF is the deal with these guys?

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 had a tuner, in essence, that would allow for what you're talking about. They called it "club tuner". You could individually set the sweetspot range to be 1 to like 35%, individually for your: driver, fairway woods, wedges, short irons, middle irons, and long irons.

My goal was to tune my player to where I'd hit between 60 to 65% FIRs and 55 to 60% GIRs. I was able to do that with the sweetspot set to the following: driver - 9%, fairway woods - 15%, long irons - 17%, mid irons - 19%, short irons 21%, and wedges at 24%. It was only any good for use in career mode because no one's going to handicap themselves to less forgiving clubs of that degree in multiplayer. The game was too easy in even the most difficult playing level, but at least there was a tool to toughen it up when you wanted something that yielded more believable real world percentages. Sadly, they dropped it in 2011 and on...

Re: PGA Tour 2K21 Patch - New Swing Changes (9/27/21)

This news caught me totally by surprise yesterday! I hadn't done any gaming at all since Saturday evening, as I actually came down with the common flu. I didn't feel up to any gaming until last night after reading this news. I downloaded the update for my Series X on off I went.

I was in a hurry to play and forgot to recalibrate my swing on the practice range. I'd always done this first with previous patches. And yes, the update has changed things a bit. I was registering fast quite frequently early on so I was getting a lot of hooks. My first tee shot was a Red Fast Hook. It was of the degree that would have carried 235 yards prior to update, and this time it carried close to 250. I didn't notice a chance in the degree of hook. if it was there, I'd have to have means of measuring outside of my perception.

I purposely hit some red fast and red slow middle and short irons. They all carried more than they would have prior to the update. I'm a less than average skilled player in this game and this feels good to me. I might consider giving Master difficulty a go again.

Two other things I noticed were the the splash shots are now manageable. I had quit playing them all together previously, unless the desired carry distance was right on a 100% swing. This now feels right to a player of my skill level, but I imagine to complaints of it being a get out of jail free card will come pouring in. Honestly, I can see that, but I'm just pointing out that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Secondly, the flow of the onscreen animation seems to flow with no hiccups now. I never once had to pause during targeting to wait for the screen to react. I also thought the ball tracking and roll from start to finish of the shot was virtually seamless.

I'm going to calibrate my swing and play at least two of my various society tournament rounds today and see how it goes. I'm really surprised that HB Studios/2K would support an update of this magnitude this far into the life cycle, but I'll take it!

When this game was first released I played it on Pro. After some time went to Master. Should there be a ten shot difference between Pro and Master because I can't seem to find the right difficulty level. Pro too easy Master too hard.

That's the main issue with this game, post all these swing changes. There's a huge gap between Pro and Master, and a difficulty level in between would be ideal.

I am actually a fan of both of the swing updates they pushed out. Doesn't make a lot of sense that they did it so late in the life cycle of this game, but I think it's an improvement. I love this game, it's far from perfect, but I still play 15 rounds a week at least, since getting the game in December.

I can't wait for the EA game and any new version that 2k has in store. The waiting is really hard. Hopefully by the time the EA game comes out in March I'll be able to find a PS5 for the regular retail price instead of these bloated prices we're seeing now.

From what I hear it might be hard to find a PS5 any time soon.

It’s going to be just as herd to step on the first tee at Augusta virtually as it is in real life with no PS5s available….

The proper way to swing on this game eludes me. The tactile difference between "fast" and "slow" still confuses me, and it seems almost to be a moving target. Since I can really only reliably swing "fast" or "very fast", I suppose it makes sense to just aim way-Right and play the draw/hook. Which, I guess is kind of like real golf - pick your miss and play it. But as has been noted so many times in the past re: this game, the entire mechanism of "fast = hook" and "slow = slice" doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Seems the last patch also removed Callaway sponsor reward clubs...

There used to be drivers, irons, etc. there along with that putter. I think they were called Callaway Sub-Zero drivers/woods and Pro irons. Now they've up and disappeared. And if you have them in your bag, and decided to remove or replace them, they go completely missing from your equipment options.

Have never seen that before...and they aren't even in the DLC Callaway pack, so you can't even buy them. They're just gone.
