Re: It now seems logical we will get PGA Tour 2k23 this year
But, after seeing how much you can scale things up/down on MSFS, I'm open to the possibility of a more stripped down experience being accessible on last gen platforms.
Before MSFS I didn't think it could be done so wellComment

Time will tell, either way I just want and pretty, fleshed out game .Comment

I do wonder if maybe the year long delay and continued console "challenges in acquisition" might have made EA re-think having the game work on PS4/XB1 perhaps?
Rory of course was already on those platforms -- perhaps they would pivot the plan and make it something that could in fact scale down and perform ok on those older platforms?
(sort of like MSFS has brilliantly done)
There are better options than porting now.Comment

A golf game can work really well on a cloud setup I thinkComment

I like your thinking on this and can see where it would be a viable solution to golf gaming on consoles with limited storage. I hope they make it happen with their upcoming title!Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Are you referring to courses being streamed via servers and not on disc? Basically an online only game?
I’m 110% against that because then it has a shelf life.Comment

What I’m saying is, cloud gaming works right now. If someone has a last gen console, cloud gaming can allow you to play next games on it, even if it wasn’t released for the platform, like me playing MLB the Show on PC.
EA Play games are already streaming on Game Pass. Microsoft has mentioned making streaming available for owned games in addition Game Pass.
The pieces are in place to take care of last gen with cloud versions in this way. MLB the Show latency is even improved to point that I don’t mind playing on PC now, although I was so early on pitches for a few innings last night when I played on my Series X.
But golf should be easy peazy in the cloud.
This reminds me of the whole BluRay thing on PS4. I said then it didn’t matter, because streaming was replacing discs at an accelerating pace.Comment

Oh okay, I don’t believe I’m talking about the same thing here.
You are talking about the ps now, plus and Xbox cloud service I believe, I’d be all for that.Comment

Me too, I just don’t want it to be so online that you can’t play career mode without being connected like 2k21.Comment

On the whole, other than graphics being better, I'm not really convinced that sports games are better now than a decade ago.
The direction of the whole industry has seemed to prioritize some strange incentives.Comment

I don't like the "always connected" style of sports game, either...but I am afraid that's probably what 2K23 will be like once again. I think part of that is due to the course creation side of things...they have to host the courses all on the servers.Orbis Non SuficitComment

I like the benefits of games being connected. Really doesn’t bother me, other than how it totally dorks up Quick Resume.
It’s every single sports game. That ship sailed. It really shouldn’t even be a topic, as it will be, because that drives other features gamers like, and features publishers like.Comment

In the case of 2k/HB golf though, I don't like how the course creator has been holding things back (like pot bunkers and overall more variety in the look/feel of courses). I hope they figure that out somehow.
Maybe the back end and overall architecture just needs/needed to be overhauled and modernized.Comment
