Luke Elvy appears to confirm PGA2k23 coming in August in radio interview

Luke Elvy did a radio interview today, and when talking about his plans for this year, he said "I'm still the voice of the PGA Golf video game, which is coming out in August" (!!)

I had to listen to it twice but it sure sounds like he said August. I saw this link and someone pointing it out of the pga2k thread on reddit. Here's a link to the interview, he says it shortly after 42:00

I sure hope he's right, but it really seems like a very short marketing/tease window since it's mid June now. If he's right, I'm sure he wasn't supposed to say anything about a release date! And, if true, we should start getting some info and hype on it very soon.

I think there's every chance that it is coming at the same time as 2K21, but the defections to LIV Golf have held up any announcements until they knew which players they'd be able to use.

Might end up being a low roster of real life Pros (playable or non-playable) at launch given a few that were in 2K21 that will now likely not be part of the game.

From what I was reading their games always come out in August so it makes sense that we might get some info right before the US Open? Fingers crossed.

I picked up 2K21 last week since it was on sale and I was curious how the TGC guys were doing with 2K... Haven't put it down since. I forgot how fun it was to struggle but fight for a Round of +1 on a tough course in their games.

2K wouldn’t be foolish enough to release a game so soon. They need at least anther 1-2 years to switch to a decent engine & try release a decent finished product for a change.

I'll happily take an upgrade to what they have now in August, with some new courses, a working scoreboard, and hopefully slightly better graphics and crowds, even if it's still on Unity. They can release the next gen one 2 years from now.

Whatever they put out in August has to be a more polished version of 2k21, which I love and still play often in spite of it's problems. We'll get a next gen game from EA in the spring. All good.

So do you have inside skinny that we won't have a working scoreboard in 2K23? We've got one that can see into the future in 2K21. If you're playing with a ghost player, it will show you there score up to 8 holes ahead of the hole you're currently playing with them!?

I've learned over the years to turn my head away from the screen when the leaderboard is shown between holes, so as to not spoil the drama of what's unfolding in real time.

Great find Golfnut67 and thanks for sharing that here. It's hard to believe that such an obscure tangent wound up being our confirmation that a new 2K golf game was coming out in August. I'm so desperate for a new golf game that I'm guardedly stoked for this one.

We already know that the 2K golf game is coming out sometime between now and the end of March 2023, due to the statements/presentations made at Take Two's last quarterly shareholders meeting.

I am still a bit wary of this game coming out in August now...there is ZERO info out there about this game, and August is just about 1.5 months away. 2K21 was released in August of 2020, but was announced May 6 of that year. There was a pre-release period of over 3 months between 2K21's official announcement and release. It would be a huge departure from their usual process if they announce a new game officially in the next week or two and have it come out just a month or two later...

That would also mean, to me, they don't have a whole lot of exciting new things they want to get out there and shout about in the lead up to release. If you only need 1-2 months of marketing to talk about your game, you don't seem to have much to talk about, IMO...

Say what you will about how lousy the Madden series is, but they are already marketing the heck out of it. That game comes out August 19. And that's a game that could sell a bazillion copies without any marketing whatsoever.

All that said, 2K/HB markets this series horribly anyway, so maybe they feel they can announce it and release it within a month or so because it won't make any difference...but that's wild to still not have an official announcement of the game, only to see it come out just several weeks from now. Especially when that game is supposed to have the most popular, recognizable golfer on the planet (Tiger) in the mix now. Why not get that info out there ASAP?!?

With Tiger as Executive Producer or something like that, they probably won't be able to release the game until Tiger is happy with it.

I really hope I am wrong with this, but I doubt Tiger is as involved now as he would have been in the early EA days. Guy has a family and everything now and I just can’t see him being as involved. Once again, I hope I’m wrong and it has his input all over the game.

Why would they put his name on the product without his input? They literally have an exclusive deal with him. Nothing has been released saying the deal is off. I feel that’d be all over the internet if that were the case.

What kind of input do you really expect Woods to have on a video game? Yeah there are parts of the swing mechanic that don't make any sense and any problems that have been ongoing with the game like drop zones and leaderboards are already known to the developers. So the default avatar is Tiger's swing. Really what else could he possible bring to the table?

While the game looks decent it needs an update to the items the course creators have at their disposal. Rocks grasses buildings that kind of thing.
