    Re: PGA 2K23 Trailer

CrazyCanuck's initial impressions after playing the game for about an hour:

    Highlights:
    - played Play Now mode only, as several pros
    - real life pros have real life swings
    - Got to play East Lake and The Renaissance Club
    - Played on Xbox One X
    - biggest takeaway is progression...progression is huge and new to the series. MyPlayer levels up just by playing
    - you can level up general skills...things like shot shaping, timing, etc.
    - each golfer has different skill levels - not everyone has the same skills, including the Pros
    - you can't make a MyPlayer that will have 99 overall everything
    - takes a lot from NBA 2K
    - some in-round skills can also be leveled up, and those are attached to the club you are using (driver one called "Tee Time" gives you a boost, but it only activates if you hit 4 bad timing drives)
    - they turn on and off as the round goes on, and how you play
    - some passive skills are there, too, and are always on
    - related to progression, offline progression also moves to online play in societies
    - tried 3-click...it's his new favorite swing
    - not traditional 3-click...press and hold, release, click, click?
    - didn't find out if swings could be locked by societies
    - splash shots are bunker only
    - punch shots back
    - at end of each round, you get a loot drop...different tiers of items are available (shafts, balls, etc.)
    - consumable golf balls...don't worry. You won't run out of them. Sounds easy to amass golf balls just by playing, not pay to win
    - definitely more arcade-y
    - didn't get any look at the designer, can't talk about it
    - pot bunkers are in the game, look great at Renaissance Club, but AREN'T IN THE DESIGNER
    - could be course designer DLC, however
    - lots of post-release content expected...more than the 2 seasons of Clubhouse Passes that 2k21 had

I liked that video/trailer a lot more than what we'd seen previously.

Very much ready for this game to release.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

And I’m sold. Day 1 purchase. Though that maybe be surprising to some around here. I’m just here for a fun golf game. Looks like they have a lot to offer. Only negative is not sure I like the idea of “loot boxes”

Watching another video, the one from b101...

          - green speeds can go up to 192...2K21 only went up to 187
          - chip shots are more challenging
          - bunker play is more challenging, too
          - every tree has been redone and re-modeled
          - they intend to support the course designer post-launch more than in the past
          - that does beg the question...how do courses from 2K21 look when ported to 2K23?

Wonder if there’s an option in there to revert to tgc19/ EA control scheme?

              That’s one thing I hated in 2k21.

A good description of how the 3-click swing works in 2K23 can be found here:

If this is how the graphics look on latest generation consoles, the detail is far from where it should be.

Yeah, it does seem the graphics are well behind where they should be. It was even mentioned in the Operation Sports hands-on preview that:

"I don’t think PGA 2K is going to blow people away in this department. The frame rate has been ramped up, and the draw distance and crowd density seem boosted on new-gen systems, but I was not “wowed” by what’s going on here."

I think this will need to be addressed when they go to strictly just the "current-gen" systems. But for now, the graphics will continue to look a bit underwhelming.

I sincerely hope theres a way to make it more realistic. All I want is a realistic golf game with a realistic career mode.

So, is this supposed to be Augusta? Because it looks a lot like the 12th but the bunkers are wrong (real course is 2 in back one in front). Was there a fake that close to Augusta in 21? Or are they adding a "fake Augusta" to the new game I wonder?

I would assume this is an ANGC-inspired track...there were several like this made in PGA 2K21 by many different people. This one kind of looks familiar, like it might already be in 2K21 actually, but I don't know 100% for sure.

It would not surprise me if this one was done by one of 2K's course creator partners and would appear in career mode as the "Spring Major" or "Legends Championship" or whatever fake name they'd give it.

Obviously, they can't have the real ANGC in the game, but I think they can find a way to get by with a course inspired by it that doesn't infringe on any trademarks...hence the reason bunkers are in different places.

Looks like they did make some changes. Can't say they aren't trying. I am more impressed after watching the Respawn video.

TheApexHound has some b roll with his impressions. Swings look much better https://youtu.be/p1FtWrKHtxM

I know people are knocking the graphics, my opinion get the foundation going with deep content first. Then take the leap with a new engine. More times than not have we seen a jump with graphics but sacrifice content with that.
