At this point, I'm convinced there is something down deeper in the code that is the culprit and actually fixing it is too large of an endeavor.

I get the sense that their next release (assuming there is one) will be a ground up codebase to finally go all in on current/future gen gaming.

I feel for you guys that want to play career and society. I got it for the slightly improved graphics alone. For me this series has always been a course creator with a decent playing game built in. Seems like this year they might be doing their best to screw that up. Like scagwi said either there is a problem within the code or they are just plain incompetent. I don't believe they are incompetent.

I guess they will have to do a total rebuild and try to keep the course creator if they plan to compete in the future. I hope both games sell really well. Better for all of us.

Server issues already? Should be a treat on Friday when the rest of the world fires the game up.

I HATE the new swing meter. Anytime there is a bunker in the background behind it I can’t see the bar going up the meter. A lot of times all I can see it the very end where I am supposed to stop my swing which makes it impossible to time visually, which is how I play.

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions Thread

Played a bunch more 2K23 today...got thru Korn Ferry and am into the PGA Tour now. The game is legit challenging, and I am playing on Pro. I missed the cut in my first PGA Tour event, and made it one shot inside the line in my second event. I actually think MyCareer mode will be a bit more enjoyable this time around...barring any glitches showing up. I like how they incorporate the sponsors, and if you play poorly, they'll drop you. I also like that you have 3 of them: one for your ball, one for your apparel, and one for your clubs. Wearing/using your sponsor gear increases their relationship with you, which means the sponsorships mean something. I still don't like the forced "rivals" system, though.

Played two matches of Topgolf online, too. That's already run its course for me.

Just dipped my toe into the course creator, and while I assume after playing around with it more it will become easier, I will need time to get used to the new interface.

Still has some hiccups in framerates and slow connections, along with several disconnects. I will say that I am currently staying at a place where the internet is rubbish, but it's been a bit of a struggle for the ol' PS4 to keep this thing going. My PS4 fan sounds like it's gonna send the thing up into orbit!

I also don't know how others (not necessarily here) have said it's so easy to rack up VC...I am at level 14 already, and only have 1100 VC in my account - I am also still missing my 1300 VC that was supposed to be a pre-order bonus! But anyway, I have only bought a couple apparel items, and can't seem to make all that many coins. And I won't set career mode to one round with very easy AI just to game the system, either.

Another thing, about the Skill points...I have already unlocked 4 of the 7 columns of skills you can choose from, so it seems reaching the max level will not take long at all. I mean, one of the NextMaker streamers reached max level on Monday - in just one day with the game.

Lastly, I still keep getting the annoying default pitch shot given to me when I'm 90-130 yards from the hole. That is such a frustrating thing.

All that said, I think that 2K23 is a better game than 2K21. I will also say that it's just an incremental step better, and in some ways shifts the mentality around what the series used to be and always has been before to a place I don't really like.

The consumable golf balls altering the conditions of a golf course is nuts, and they have said nothing about it yet in response to the feedback that's been pretty clear from the community. So we sit and wait to see if this is a bug or a feature. If it's the latter, then none of the 2K shills can ever complain about how EA only cares about DLC ever again.

Having success putting but struggling with my long game. It will take time to get my timing going I guess. My score is getting better game by game tho!

Graphics are nice, a step up from 2k21 but only a minor one I would say.

Commentary and presentation is fine but I'm already seeing leaderbaord glitches again in Society.

My society is PlayStation Country Club btw, looking for players who want to have some competitive fun. 3 events every week so will be an active society.

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions Thread

First impressions playing a few casual rounds on Master difficulty on my Xbox Series X.

Game is difficult. On full swings, timing will take some time to get comfortable. I might have to throttle back to Pro for more exploration and testing. I have not upgraded any Skills or done any Fittings yet, so there's that.

With putting and short-game, something is off. I don't know if this is a consumable-balls problem or if Quail Hollow is just very poorly represented in the game...but on many holes if you miss a chip or short putt by a few feet, it would repel off the green. I've played Quail IRL...the greens are not even close to as severe as it was in the game. Quail does have false fronts, but not false 2/3rds of whole greens. Something is amiss here, and I hope it's just the consumable balls problem and easy to fix. Since I'm still in exploration mode I only used the lowest-end consumable ball...so that may be the problem. Golf is a difficult game IRL and I LIKE to have short game rely on timing skill, but this seems far too off.

A tip: strongly suggest you go into settings and switch toggle to "performance" on video settings for a much better experience. On default mode the golfer animation on swings and the swing meter were not close to synched up and it leads to bad play. (As I get more used to the game, I like to turn all the swing meters off, but for exploration mode they're essential this year, I feel.)

The little things are still missing. Very annoying that they didn't address proper drop-options with red stakes and didn't add yellow stakes. In limited play it seems there are a lot more shots that register OUT OF BOUNDS, even if you're in another fairway. As mentioned in Chase's article, there's zero weather variability during the round and you won't land in a divot or plugged lie. Our family plays a ton of tournament golf -- these variability things matter a ton over 36+ holes.

Create-your-character is average. It's a bit limited, but fine.

TopGolf area was fun to play with my children for 10 minutes, but I'm doubtful I'd go back there.

Course creator does seem like they've improved tree and grass varieties, but I didn't spend too much time there after porting over my unfinished course from 2K21. Interface has been updated and is cleaner.

My son played around with a Q-School round and it seemed fine, although the commentary is a bit bland. Not much different than 2K21, even though they added Henni Koyack. The crowds look pretty static and dead.

p.s. EA's teaser looks amazing. But will it play difficult-yet-rewarding like real golf? That's the essential question. We're planning on owning both games, but the one that gets played much more will have to deliver challenge by making you THINK about shot selection and EXECUTE on every shot.

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions Thread

A couple quirks have arisen in MyCareer for me...nothing as frustrating as the leaderboard glitch yet.

                    - I have my events set to 2 rounds, and I have a Day One and Day Two outfit set up. However, when I finish my first round and then go to play round 2, the second round starts with me wearing my Day One outfit. I have to exit the round and jump back in for the Day Two look to show.

                    - Also, after each event, the commentary says I won the event, and it shows the replay of my final putt like I won, but I actually did not win. The leaderboard and standings show my real finish, it's just the presentation acts like I won.

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions Thread

So far, (and I'm only Level 8 so far), I think it's a step up in *almost* every area.

BUT - a SMALL step up. No HUGE improvements anywhere that I can see.

All the add-ons (grips, heads, etc) are superfluous to me, I don't care about all that. I think just having an expanded skill tree would be cool.

Very slick, and nice UI. Fine presentation during rounds, I don't have problems with any of that.

Quite the limited selection in clothes though, I'm kinda disappointed there. Hopefully that expands as we continue to play and level up.

I cant wait until we get the best courses (Pebble, Augusta, etc) converted over by all the designers. That was always the strongest aspect to me.

I like having other Golfers to play with in casual rounds (Pros, Michael Jordan, Curry, etc). I think that's cool and hope to see it expanded greatly (Tony Romo FTW!).

All in all, I dig it.

Wow, reading this thread has confirmed my fears that this is a tiny, tiny, evolutionary upgrade with golfers like Jordan, Steph Curry, etc added on and a new title and spokesperson with Tiger.

Very disappointing to read, especially all the bugs, lackluster graphics and all of the things already found to be wrong with the game.

I preordered for Friday as my wife wants to play but my expectations couldn't be much lower I guess.

In a way that may be a good thing, nowhere to go but up I suppose LOL

                          Negative:
                          - The frame rate on quality mode is pathetic (PS5). Fortunately the graphical downgrade in performance isn't too bad.

                          - Limited player customization options. I'd love to see more facial hair choices and the ability to adjust my body beyond height.

                          - No visual options (bloom, field of depth, etc)

                          Positive:
                          - The gameplay feels great. I jumped straight to legend with no grids and it can be brutal, but rewarding. I don't know of it's due to my settings or an overall change, but the greens are less sticky than normal. I've missed some putts that sent the ball rolling to another country. I love it.

                          - The menus are clean and attractive.

                          - I thought I'd hate having character like Jordan in the game, but the way he's able to be selected is unobtrusive. I'll probably give him and Ricky Fowler a run just to see how different they feel from my character.

                          - Being able to choose a caddie from a decent selection of characters

                          Miscellaneous:
                          - I like the different archetypes (I went with rhythm), but I'm not sure how I feel about all of the boosts. I haven't experimented with any of them yet to have an opinion. I mostly play offline, but I would like to join a society where non skill-based stuff is limited.

                          - I played two rounds last night and had a great time. I loved 2K21 and this seems like more of the same (with some new additions), which is a good thing to me.

i only played a few rounds of 2k21, really haven't played a golf game since tiger 06. i've played it on both PS5 and PS4.

as far as gameplay goes i have no complaints - i enjoy the sim elements... i started on 'amateur' and definitely use my one putt preview per shot - i'll probably ditch that and the grids when my player is fully upgraded. i have to say that pitch shots are really frustrating, and the amount of 'very slow' total shot-losses are pretty upsetting. while its cool that theres a real handicap, etc, when i choose 'casual round' i feel like i should be able to have a mulligan option. i'm sure theres something more i'm missing but it feels like theres just 0 room for real-life interruptions, and that if i'm going to play this game i have to make sure i'm committed to playing 18 holes no matter what.

as far as the non-gameplay stuff goes... it looks beautiful on PS5. i should say that the PS4 graphics/etc could be from 2013, but for me thats not a huge deal. there are some glitches - sometimes you get a black tracking line during post-shot animations, its much worse on PS5. also, the whole 'auto-upload to the server after every shot' thing was taking *forever* last night on PS5 - had 0 problems with that aspect on PS4 (although loading does take a fair bit longer, in general). oh, and as mentioned in another thread, i played a few rounds on mycareer on PS5, then loaded the game on PS4... my player stats remained, but my avatar / sponsors / season progress was reset. not a huge deal in my case but i would be a little scared about putting time in if i was planning to jump consoles down the line.

the reason 2k21 never appealed to me was the 'always online' element... while thats not been a problem yet, i'm aware that not being able to play something as simple as MyCareer due to a server error would make this entire review pointless. i understand in this case why the game content remains online, but this whole industry feels like it wants to lease me a game until they decide its time for a new one. i don't think thats a great trend.

Only con I have so far is the replay system. It’s Annoying sinking a 45+ foot putt and have the camera on your golfer the entire time.

Graphically, I’ve accepted this is what we’re going to get. As someone mentioned above I’d take gameplay over graphics 99% of the time. Which I think they’ve nailed.

Overall 8.5 out of 10. I’ve forgotten how fun it is to play with pros. Swings are top notch and it seems each pro has a unique ball flight.
