Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

I am just ahead of you. Just did the Maine Classic and Dominican Open. New courses for me. I wouldn´t blast through Maine quite interesting and great anti power player. Which frustrates a power player there is trees when you just want to blast the greens. Sadly I lost this tournament by 1 stroke!

Teeth of the Dog you may blast through it wasn´t to interesting. Very easy greens I got 3 eagles and should honestly birdied every hole... Finished 10 strokes ahead.

The open is at Troon for me same for you or are you at Andrews?

Experimented a bit with my character. I decided to sacrifice my short game stats to increase putting. But I found the extra grid lines kind of confusing for my eyes it felt like I was put further back from the hole in the overview and really had to get behind the putter to get the line. I am not sure it helps that much. Then I went the other way and removed all but the 3 first points in putting and got me to power level 9. Also put some back on short game recovery. Putting is expensive just like power. Getting to 10 in power should be quite possible but it will take 3 weeks to get to level 60 at this rate... It´s insane two days golfing and no skill points gained. It´s designed to make you buy the pro pass obviously.

The feel I got this is the better way to go for a very average golfer. A more skilled one may want more putting. But then in sim mode you don´t even get a grid and then all those points are wasted beside more forgiveness for mis****s? Have to write miss hits

Changed my mind a zillion times already in term of specs will probably change it again lol. But I like the trend finally starting to get par 3s at least a bit under control. In most other golf games I tried par threes you where always hunting the flag. Not this game here you just want it on the green hardly ever within 5 feet.

Doing st andrews weekly tournaments I see a common theme of overshooting par 4s from the tee. I will probably settle for 9. Many settle for 8 but I feel 9 may be worth it since I don´t like to use that cheat bunker shot or that flop shot I just use whenever pitch is totally out of the question. I will be able to max out accuracy and control for driving and approach anyway then I have to have real finess with short game as you should.

Nerfing my short game it feels more realistic now having to do way more rollout planning. Sometimes when you have higher skills it just feels like you can see the invisible hand helping you with your shots. Shots just start to look weirder at times?

Like the simplicity I just use drive, approach, finesse, pitch and chip shots I hardly ever use spinner or knockdown I use shotscaping instead. Try to play with the wind rather then use shots to negate their effect besides hitting low or high trajectories. Idea is that it may make me more consistent in working out the winds effect in the long run.

Earlier in my career I was just aiming for bunkers when in doubt because the pick shot would always bring me within 2 feet with eyes closed and also abused the flop shot quite a bit.

I don't have a pick shot or long flop. I have to do a lot of pitch shots. They are not easy. You really have to know the firmness and speed of the greens. And a lot of times I have to purposely short power it so I'm not overshooting it.

I do quick play unless it's a major so I don't see every hole of each course I play. It does a nice job mixing it around though. And the final round always has you playing holes 14-18. Or you start on hole 13 I don't remember.

Finally won the Masters (season 8)!

Tony Finau and I went shot for shot in the last round and I ended up with a 2 shot lead going into the final 3 holes.

          Spoiler

With NCAA right around the corner I’m going to finally retire this game. I definitely got my money’s worth - and while the game isn’t perfect by any means it did a lot of things right.

-Career mode was fantastic, loved the final day pairings and abundance of courses and tournaments
          -Graphics were superb
          -Online vs. was entertaining
-Store had a ton of items in it (I still don’t understand why they held things back for so long)

If they do make this game again in the future, hopefully they iron out some of the quirky issues this game had. The broadcast camera being broken on every single course that wasn’t added after launch would be nice

Yes tricky to plan but I also struggle a lot with precision on the joystick doing those small nimble strokes.

Done a lot of links golf now first st andrews weekly competitions and then royal troon for the open championship. My power golfer totally obliberated the course it´s pointless when your drives are between 420 and 460. The rollout seem so extreme in this title on some courses.

As for wind it kind of appears the wind affect pitch shots more then full shots? Otherwise the longer time the ball is in the air the longer time the wind has an effect but pitch shots seem to just start blowing away instantly.

Anyway the transformation of my character from initially focusing all on the short game I have now become a pure power golfer. I maxed out driving and approach. Power level 9. No recovery at all for approach. In short game I have 2 accuracy skills that´s it! And 4 in putting.

Level 56 I only have 8 more points to distribute.

Went back to 8 power and trying maxed out accuracy for short game plus a little bit of control. Probably better balanced but will see how much my longer approach shots punish me.

If I hit approach shot with wedges is that short game or is short game only pitch, chip and lob shots?

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Bought the precision iron set spec with 95 in control and accuracy and very low power at 39. Think I broke the code you must combat the rng to the max. just accuracy and control is the key to get close to the pin lol. I am even making birdies on par threes with ease. I didn´t do a single shot in the rough in two rounds at tpc boston and some other tpc course lol

Sure there is quite a few greens where I am tantalisingly short where I might been able to carry with my power golfer. Will see as I get to level 60 I might afford 9 in power.

Or I get tired of the feel of the invisible hand helping me get close. Maybe I am paranoid but I feel I can kind of sense how the game works to make my shots look better then they are lol

Finished the fedex event. Just the tour final left. I wish you could mod the ai to hit further. Then they could challenge quite well I imagine. Did play the fedex event with cantlay last day and he did do well only breaked under the pressure on the last 9.
But the difference in distance is insane.

100 % is no challenge any more sadly

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Started my second season. Torrey pines tend to catch me out on the putting surface didnt win the farmer invitational first time around. First 9 couldn´t sink a single putt constant 2 inches dropins but back nine it just released and did 7 birdies in a row. Lack of short game may have cost me one or two strokes but the distance gained should probably make 1 or 2 also maybe. I won by 1 stroke after hitting water hazard on last hole and had to settle for par. But certainly way better now lost at 30 AI last time now won at 100 AI.

Would be cool to be able to play rounds against yourself with different skill settings to see how they compare.

Feeling quite ready with this title though. To bad the career don´t give you all courses it seems. I still have some I haven´t run yet not counting the major rotation courses.

Grinding my way to 60. Try to complete the tournaments I haven´t won but how do you get access to the alternate tournaments? I try to skip events but I never get to play the alternates.

Alternates are only if you didn't qualify for the bigger tournament that same week.

Done them now. Did them with my pc golfer where I hadn´t done any pga tour events. Quite some hassle particularly the last banff because I couldn´t resist the british open and then I had to skip five seasons to be able to do banff.

Earned some credits doing this and spend them all on useless luxury items. miura irons, wedges. shafts and some pink cameron putter lol.

Had some fun comparing my power 10 golfer with no shortgame skills with power 8 golfer with quite some bit of short game skills on wolf and bandons

Good approaches both I guess. I certainly did more chipins than per usual and the accuracy on pitches is welcome surely though some greens was frustratingly not in reach

Think I am done with it but always create an excuse keep playing. I started a career with a new golfer and I was kind of surprised how well I do without any skills. I lack distance that is the only thing I notice honestly. Par 5s where I often had wedges I now cant actually reach the green in 2.

50 % but it was way to easy and I didn´t even use any of my specs where it took ages for me before to be competitive at 30 %. But amateur tour is not the same as pga I guess so probably that.

If you complete challenges with another golfer the rewards will not transfer over to your other golfer if I remember correctly. Once you do the challenge once you can't do them again with another created golfer either. Don't quote me on this but I am like 85% sure. I have a separate golfer where I'm using specs and everything just in case I ever wanted to do anything online but since they never added turn based style like 2K Golf has I never had interest to try it.
