Re: EA Sports PGA Tour: How is your Career Mode going?

Ya I definitely had to mess with the AI scoring to get it more like real life. Over a period of a week, on Tour mode, I slowly nudged the AI scoring down from 50, and eventually ended up at 40.

Almost every tournament, the average top scoring is like 5-8 under per round, with someone occasionally shooting really well and doing better than that. Most 4 round tournaments, the best scores are -15 to -22. Whistling Straights, Sawgrass and other difficult courses are like -12 under for the tournament.

Seems about right for me and matches real life scores pretty well.

Thinking this was strange, I looked up the last tournament there and the actual winner was 6 under in the US open. So I think the AI scoring is a bit off on this one.
Is that the Korn Ferry Tour opening event? If so I wouldn't compare the Korn Ferry Tour scores to real life US Opens, the game deliberately puts the courses for the Korn Ferry Tour on much easier conditions than the US Open ever would. My winner for that event was -14 and I went -9, your winner may have been quite higher than usual.

My first full season is now over. After winning the opening round, I was even at the BMW and 3 under at East Lake. I never play well at East Lake. With all of the time I spent with 2k21/23, getting to the point where I was always in first place going into the championship (after winning many tournaments in the season over and over), I would inevitably get to East Lake and lose. I only won the FedEx cup 2 times in 2k lol.

I'm going to hold off on starting a new season until I see what's coming out this week.
Will courses added be able to be used in a current career mode? So Oak Hill can be used for season 2?

I believe it's been confirmed that you won't see the new course until your next season starts. Arlington?

I don't recall if there's been any confirmation on how that will work. I know in PGA 2K23, any new courses/events that get added won't show up until the following career mode season.

I also don't think we have any confirmation that the major hosts will rotate. Hopefully, they can add that in like they did for Rory.

Game feels harder all around after the patch for me which is a good thing. Pre-patch I was contending every tournament I played and have won like 4 out of 8 I was in. Post-patch I’ve been missing the cut or finishing out of the top 50 even if I make it to the weekend. Putting is a lot more challenging with the lips now but also finding that the ball doesn’t roll as fast on hills and it’s harder gauging left/right slopes. I suppose my birdies before the patch are becoming pars and pars are becoming bogeys now post-patch. Will have to relearn how to putt effectively but I’m glad it’s becoming more realistic and challenging for me.

Yeah I think the putting is definitely harder. The uphill and downhills seem harder to guage for speed now. It was for every foot add or decrease an inch aim distance. I wonder if that has changed? I hit one uphill that. Was 5 foot short and I aimed how I always have. At least I thought so anyway.

So far at Pebble Beach I shot a round of 69, then second round of 73. Really love the game right now. Bummer to hear no Oak Hill for PGA championship until year 3 of career though.

I personally had to change my Swing Difficulty back to Normal and increase my Putting attribute to the gold Texas Wedge and still find the game very challenging barely making the cut or missed cut rather than leading the field. It’s taking some time to re learn how to putt but as long as it’s more realistic now, I’m all for it even if my scores having been a lot higher after the patch.

Makes you wonder why they released OHCC in time for the real life tourney if you have to wait for the third year of a career to use it.

Any career modes started now will have it at OHCC in year 1 of the PGA, probably because it's supposed to be the 2023 season, but if it's already been started pre-patch (or maybe just the 1st season's PGA Championship already played pre-patch) then it'll be Southern Hills for the first 2 seasons. I get why they did it, but not sure if I agree with the implications.

So if we havent played PGA Championship in Year 1 yet, will Oak Hill be there for Year 2?

Mycareer has been off to a hot start until I equipped my irons with an epic fitting…since this I can’t hit an iron to save my life…anyone else seeing this or I have I done something wrong…would equipping an epic fitting to legendary irons cause any problems…I am enjoying the putting which seems to be more difficult since the patch

I can confirm this, I held off on starting season 2 until the patch came out. It still has Southern Hills as the PGA Championship, so I'm guessing from what you are saying, when I get to season 3 Oak Hill will replace Southern Hills.

I'm cool with that. I played Oak Hills the day it came out, and was underwhelmed lol. Not that they did a bad job with it, more that it's a very classic, bland course. And especially the fact that I shot 3 under for the entire tournament haha. I like Southern Hills better. I shot 12 under there

Man this career mode is fantastic! Finally won my first tournament. Before that I came second once. Next tournament after winning I finish +3 and barely made the cut.

Finally reached first major, The Players Championship. Playing all 18 for this one. Quick play other tournaments. After round one at Sawgrass I finish -6 after birdies on 5 of the last 6 holes, including 4 straight from holes 15-18.

I'm second headed into round two as someone did shoot 7 under. This is AI score difficulty at 50 btw. This game is so so good. Especially if you don't play a ton. I plan to just play one round per day for majors just like real life. And when I play other tournaments I finish a whole tournament using quick play in one sitting.
