I'd like to know if they optimized anything on PC with these performance tweaks. The game should run way better than it does.

Just now hearing of it and downloading it. It'll be about 16 minutes before it finishes downloading. I'll report back when I get a few holes behind me. If they didn't also raise the governor on the swing speed animation, I don't think it's going to help much with the feel.

I'm excited to try it though... they've had enough time to make all the changes needed to make this really pay off, IMO.

I've still got 50 minutes left on my trial with the PC version. I'll try it tonight.

            First impressions on 60fps:

I've played 3 holes at Banff, and 3 holes at LACC in performance mode. Definitely notice more frames in the animations and as the ball is in flight, it's smoother for sure. So far I've only seen a couple of very small instances of stuff drawing in, like maybe a bush or some leaves popping in at the end of the flight. Trees still look about the same, and I'm not having any problems or noticing any differences in being able to see the details of the greens or the beads.

Absolutely no difference, to me, of how it affects the swing animation as far as it feeling more sped up or with less delay.

All in all, first impression is...meh. If I hadn't noticed there was a patch overnight and just started playing, I probably wouldn't have noticed the difference one way or the other. Great that they did it though, and the more I play on performance mode maybe I'll decide it's worth it to leave it on because it's definitely smoother, not that it wasn't smooth in the first place. Good to see they are still working things and I'm really looking forward to choosing rounds and turn play, and more online modes more than 60fps.

Update--I'm definitely liking performance mode. I finished both rounds (Banff and LACC). It has a similar "feel" to it like when 2k upgraded theirs. The game just flows more smoothly, and what's odd, actually looks more hi res than before. Again I'm sure there are some things drawing in here and there on the sides, with the bushes and stuff, but I'm not seeing any degradation of the grass and trees, and just overall everything looks a bit deeper, richer, and without a doubt more polished and smooth when the ball is in flight, doing flyovers, zooming for shot aiming, etc.

I'm a fan of it unless it starts to get ugly on other courses. What are one or two courses that have the most objects and load on the PS5 to really test it out? Trying to think of a couple...

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Patch 4.5 Notes - Adds 60 FPS Performance Mode

I just played the daily four hole tournament difficulty round at Wolf Creek with the game in Performance mode, and followed that with an 18 hole round at LACC, since that was the most recent course I'd played in the game a little over a week ago.

I must say I can barely feel a difference between the swings the performance mode and the quality mode. There's just enough there to make it feel a tad bit livelier, but it still seems like there's a governor limiting the swing speed. There's also still a significant lag between the stick motion and the start of the swing animation. There's just a hint of improvement here, but not enough to make me feel like I'm really connected to my golfer in real time.

The biggest improvement from the 60 FPS option comes in the flight, bounce, and roll of the ball. It looks more natural in all three aspects. It also seems to make the game move along at a little bit perkier pace. I wasn't really expecting to be impressed by that, but it winds up being the saving grace for the option.

The other surprising aspect of it is that the graphics didn't take as much of a hit as I thought they'd have to take to accomplish 60 FPS. I had to A/B some screens to put them side by side to see the difference. Yes, the performance mode has less graphics detail, but when you have to put screen shots side by side to confirm the difference, that's not making it too much of a compromise for what the performance mode offers, IMO. Yes, I got a sense that the quality wasn't quite up to what I saw prior to the patch with performance mode selected, but I couldn't quite put my finger on why.

There's not enough here to make EA Sports PGA Tour my #1 console golf game now, as I still think PGA Tour 2K23 offers a much better feel between the player and his on screen surrogate. It also still has much better camera options. There is now enough here to probably make me dabble with the game once or twice a week. I just wish EA Sports could integrate the stick motion considerably more proportionally. That's mostly what is still holding it back for me.

The only benefit I see of this patch is the scoreboard fix. The performance mode (60fps) really washes out the graphics on the PS5 in my opinion. It looks, well ugly. As for any boost I kept alternating between quality and performance with each new hole and honestly I don't notice a difference.

I'll stick with quality mode as I'd rather have the graphics be as they were and "sacrifice" the minute at best, performance upgrade that 60fps offers.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Your impressions are locked in with what I said in another post. The game feels livelier, the roll outs and ball flight are much better looking, and when you're playing the game and not doing side by side comparisons standing still, I don't notice a difference. In fact performance mode looks better to me. I'm not getting the washy overall look that I've seen a couple of other people mention.

And yes, still with you on the major aspect that I wish like hell the swing was in sync with the stick, especially at the beginning. That's not going to change in this game. But this upgrade is definitely worth checking out.

Now give us the promised Turn Play and choosing rounds in career mode, and this game will keep me playing for a long long time. I love it and it's about to get a lot better, soon hopefully. This was a great patch.

I don't notice much in the look and feel of the game but I have played three rounds since the patch and I am putting much better! I don't know if I'm reading the greens better due to the graphics enhancement or maybe it's smoother drawing the putter back but that's the one thing I've noticed. Man am I glad they fixed the scoreboard! I know it shouldn't bother me that much....but it did.

I see a big difference in visual fidelity between 30 & 60 but I do play only a few feet away from a 55” display. There is a difference in swing feel at 60 but I still urge players that see a delay or hitch to try different swing types because I have played this game almost daily since release & there is zero delay on the animation. As I start to move the stick the animation starts immediately.

I'm also playing on a big TV, a 65 inch 4k about 8 feet in front of me. Don't get me wrong, you can definitely see a slight downgrade overall in the detail, but at least so far, I like the way it makes the game feel, especially on the rollouts of the ball. Swinging seems smoother, but not necessarily faster.
