Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Patch 4.5 Notes - Adds 60 FPS Performance Mode

Just played my first round in performance mode and there is definitely an improvement in the fluidity of the ball flight and roll out. I also think putting on the meter was a lot more responsive. I did not really feel much of a difference in the actual swing, however.

Even though the performance mode was a nice improvement, the downgrade in resolution and graphics in general was extremely noticeable. I’m playing on a 65” CX Oled for reference. I think if you’re just playing on a 1080p tv or low end 4k tv then you probably won’t notice much of a difference. This game is far too beautiful to sacrifice the 4k resolution for the marginal upgrade in performance with the 60 fps. I can definitely see why they only shipped the game capped at 30 fps. I really never had a problem at all with the frame rate to begin with so I’m not really all that disappointed. 60 fps at 4k or 1440p would have been sweet but they can only do so much with the current hardware they’re working with.

Agree 100%. I’m on a LG C2 and the graphics take a hit. Gonna stick with what I’ve been rolling with.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Patch 4.5 Notes - Adds 60 FPS Performance Mode

Played 10 holes on performance mode - I'm not big on graphics or frame rate but the bump to 60 fps was very nice and noticeable. I don't think my TV is all that high-end cause I could barely notice a difference in graphics between the two even after comparing screenshots so I'll probably stick with performance mode.

If they did finally fix the E career mode scoreboards that's good, I'm glad they did this update now cause honestly if we had to wait a full month for a fix to an issue caused by their own patch that would've been unacceptable imo. I haven't seen this mentioned here but adding Round Settings in-round is a very good and much-needed QoL change, I've had to back out of Sim rounds to check the wind range more times than I'd like to admit.

One big issue that needs to be fixed is how sometimes the ball, when putting, will just pop over the hole, as if there was a divot there.

It happens also-- especially on the left side of the cup-- where the ball just rolls over the hole, and it's not on the edge of the whole, either.

I think for now I'll stay with 60. There is a appreciable difference in the graphics, but one just gets used to that. With 60 frames, it's not as sluggish. Even the menus are quicker.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Adds Performance Mode 60 FPS in Latest Update - Patch Notes

It’s interesting to see the differences in how this looks for everyone. I watched the gamer ability’s YouTube video on the performance update and he said it was buttery smooth and the difference in resolution was not too noticeable, but I just watched the apex hounds video on the update and he said the difference in resolution was VERY noticeable, enough to the point where he will probably stay in the fidelity mode even though he agrees the 60 fps makes the gameplay feel so much smoother. So his opinion was more inline with mine where the big hit to the resolution might not be worth it.

Definitely seems like it’s gonna come down to what display you’re using that will determine how noticeable the change in resolution will be. I really hope they’ll be able to tweak it a little more in the future because I did enjoy playing in 60 fps

Glad they gave us the option. For me, I will stick with quality mode. Don't feel the benefits outweigh the visuals for this game (which is totally different than how I felt when 2K21 switched to 60FPS as that was gamechanger for me with how that swing works--here it doesn't seem to affect me either at 30fps or 60fps).

LG 48" C1 OLED display for reference.

Exactly this. More options in a sports game the better. For me, I notice things like frame rate far to easily (not a purist, I just process things faster with smoother motion) another thing I noticed was I was getting more perfect perfect, not sure if it actually does make a difference or just a placebo affect

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour Adds Performance Mode 60 FPS in Latest Update - Patch Notes

I'm glad that EA Sports put an option in for 60 FPS, even though the performance improvement didn't manifest itself in quite the way I'd hoped... a significantly more responsive, less speed governed swing interface. There's just enough there to make it feel a wee bit peppier. I do like the way the performance improvement affects the animation of the ball's flight, bounce, and roll. The overall flow of the game just seems to move at a faster pace, which I also welcome.

I've got what's probably considered to be an average display. I'm using a 55" 2019 TCL Series 6 4K Ultra display, and it's probably not cutting edge enough to expose the full extent of the graphics differences between Quality and Performance mode. I can sense just enough of difference between the two to give the nod to Quality for image quality. However, the difference isn't enough for me to sacrifice what bit of performance boost I get from playing in Performance mode.

It seems like we've got a pretty even split between Performance and Quality mode preferences here, so I'd say it was a wise move for EA Sports to offer a Performance mode option. I see it as a win-win situation for everyone who plays the game.

My next desire would be for EA Sports to take the speed governor off the golfer's animation. The frame rate is high enough for the animation speed to be not be supressed to its current extent. It makes me feel less of a connection with the golfer because it feels so over regulated.

I got in a round last night and on my 4090 I saw very little if any performance upgrade. I usually get between 115 - 120 fps maxed, but its not a smooth experience.

I often get small hitches/frame spikes, just enough to notice. Don't get me wrong, its a good experience, just I expected more in terms of performance.

Performance mode is working great for me - a huge upgrade IMO. Swing animation feels ridiculously smooth now and ball rollouts and camera cuts look great.

Definitely notice a slight visual hit (Wolf Creek looked completely washed out) but I’m willing to live with it.

I could be mistaken but I've also noticed a clear difference in timing my swings on performance mode, mainly putts. I've gotten much closer to perfect and more perfects so far than on 30 fps, which I think should make sense.

All of this makes me wonder how much more performant it could have been if they'd built from the ground up and not based it on a 9 year old starting point

(Original Rory 15 code -- which would have been getting built in 2014)

Played on the ROG Ally last night. No change in performance. Those hitches you mention are super annoying and it's not an issue of specs. Your 4090 my 4080 and a ROG Ally all have them. No matter what graphics settings I choose it's still there which tells me it's an optimization issue.

This is my favorite game in quite awhile but I'm quickly getting less interested in it with the performance issues.

I've been sticking to fidelity mode (or whatever they call it). I've worked hard on my swing and am now so comfortable with it that going to 60 has caused a little adjustment.

I'm going back and forth (PS5). I ought to just stay with 60 and adjust. Eventually, one would think, EA is going to tweak 60 to get the graphics closer to 30, making the choice a no-brainer.

I can say after playing a couple of rounds is that I do feel the difference in frame rate. But now Im having to adjust to it, as I got use to the 30fps.

I guess since its golf and you play at my own pace vs H2H, the lack of 60 FPS didn't bother me. And Im playing on 120fps when applicable (55in LG C1 on a series x).

But I would say this current state of technology, there’s no real excuse not have 60fps (AT THE MINIMUM) as an option from the beginning. Thats blasphemy 😂
