Buy both. If you can afford an internet connection you can surely afford to fork over $100 for the 2 of these. I prefer 2k you do you.

Agreed, get both. EA for Career Mode and 2K for online.

Had the itch to redownload 2k the other day, now that ea has 60fps won’t be such a jarring difference going back and fourth. Unfortunately 2k got the bad end of the roulette when I had to delete some games to free up some space.

I agree with this post. I prefer 2K over EA. For reasons of the satisfaction of hitting a good shot. I play golf and know hard that is to do. EA nailed the presentation but is too arcadey for me to stick with it but they made a good game after taking years off. But I think both studios can learn from one another.

I’ve been out of the golf genre since Tiger Woods 09 for the PS3…

When the EA Play trial for EA Sports PGA Tour got available, I downloaded it and got instantly sucked in. That made me want to check out PGA 2K23 as well (PSN Deluxe had a 2 hour trial available).

I had so much fun with each game that I couldn’t decide which one I loved more. Not only I bought both oh them, but I’m really looking forward to their next iterations.

This alone is why we need NBA Live and NFL 2K back.

Re: EA Sports Vs. 2K: Which PGA Tour Game Is Better?

I have both games, have played PGA 2k23 a total of 9 hours and EA PGA Tour over 300 hours. So obviously I prefer the EA game, but saying that, the article is very well written and hits some great points, especially about the choice of gameplay (i.e. career mode, online, etc.)

EA has less courses, sure, but of the 32 only 2 fantasy courses and every course looks magnificent. I like the career mode and gameplay more in EA, however, EA could do so much more. I don't really need a course creator, but it would be nice for DLC of actual sanctioned courses. I know this takes a lot of time and mapping, but past EA titles from the PS3 had several more courses that was available. They could also do more with player customization.

2k's presentation is lacking, it's just not fun listening to the commentary.

EA's XP system also caps you out at level 50, after you hit that level, you just accumulate points that can never be used. I think a lot can be done to enhance this as after a month, everyone is leveled up to 45-50 and it get's a little old seeing the same players on the leaderboards in every tournament or online head to head. To me, it could be tiered differently. And then you have some that back out of every game unless you have 6 or more players and again still have some back out... I would love for EA to have rooms for courses versus random matchmaking. I would much rather enter a room that had 8-12 players than get randomly chosen against 1 or 2 for 6 or 7 times and everyone backing out (or if a course has wind) wasting 5-10 minutes of your time. And I would rather choose who I am playing. I know who the ringers are, why would I want to play them knowing that every 9-hole round they are going to be at -11 or -12... Granted, I have played some pretty perfect rounds like this, but it's not every round because I like to play courses no matter what the wind is like.

EA also has not made the hazards more of a hazard. I have watched guys, including myself hit out of deep heavy rough 200+ yards with a hack shot. I mean the rough is brutal, and yet the next shot is a shot within 2 feet of the pin. They need to upgrade the rough and ball physics. Additionally their points system in EA matchmaking is horrible. I could win against all five of my opponents going 5-0-0 and get 25 points, telling me you get 5 points for a win, but if I were to go 2 wins 2 ties and one loss, math would tell you I would get five points, but no, I lose 10 points even though I only lost to one person, beat two and tied two... It makes no sense and was enough for me to just abandon the online matchmaking play that at one point I was in the Top 50, but could never move up despite winning many more than I was losing...
If you keep bowing down and praising the developers, (NHL series) nothing they give us the consumer will ever be a "finished" product. Take a stand, it is your money!!!.

It's interesting that both 2K and EA do the same thing...capping your player's level at 50.

In 2K, once you're at 50, you do keep "leveling up", but you stay at 50, and your only reward is 250 VC for getting to the next level. I guess at least it's something.

I wish the development team would just go back and play Tiger Woods 13 and implement how rough impacted shots in that game. There were varying lie conditions and you could try to hold your right stick in a certain position on the ball while still swinging with your left. For me, that was a really good way to implement varying lies and varying abilities to pick the ball out of the rough

While there are some things that the 2k game does well, it will always feel to me like a golf game made by people who really are not competent in their understanding of golf. The golf just "feels" off. The EA game still has a ways to go, but is miles closer to a competent golf simulation.

To me, 2K always lacks in the immersion side of things. While I do like the gameplay enough, I am pretty much stuck playing local rounds and ranked matchmaking, as career mode is so dull and repetitive, and I am not good enough to compete in societies like TGCTours, playing courses on settings that are sometimes a bit tricked up in the name of difficulty, yet people still shoot -55 in events somehow.

The fake majors 2K uses in career mode, even though we can now drop Pinehurst, Pebble, or Torrey Pines into the faux U.S. Open, still lack any kind of gravitas that the biggest events of the year should have. There's only one Scottish links style course in the 2K curated list, so you're stuck playing the same course for the fake Open Championship every year if you want it to mimic some kind of reality. And the fake PGA Championship is locked at TPC Boston, for some reason.

Not to mention most of the official real-life courses in the game stink in terms of greens, and are basically unplayable due to ridiculous pin locations.

I also don't care for the fact that 2K is starting to really attach most of the new items/events to the "Smerf" app or whatever it's called. I really don't want to download a 3rd party app for my phone that will give me access to other content in the game, while sharing my personal info once again with whoever operates that app. IDK, just feels odd and something that's unnecessary. I am glad it's an optional thing.

As a last-gen holdover, I am fine with 2K23 being the most recent golf game I can play. But I really hope EA pushes 2K/HB to get a bit more creative and innovative in future versions of their game, because 2K23 still has its share of warts and areas of focus it needs to address.

Looking forward to seeing Royal Liverpool in EA’s game I’m hoping they got the 17th recreated as I’ve just seen it on YT. Amazing short par 3 & definitely something 2K can’t get anywhere near creating unfortunately.
