You raise an interesting point (at least to me) MAB. If EA gives up the current rights that they own, what happens to the games we own? Keep in mind they can stop us from playing career mode by turning down their servers.

That would bum me out as I am happy with the game and courses as they are…

Careful about the "games we own" part

This why they've leaned into the online requirements. The licenses are probably cheaper with the ability to rug pull everyone anytime they need to.

What are the main differences between 21 and 23 if you will? Swing difficulty changes and graphics slightly better? I'm just now back at it after a couple years' hiatus and am using 2K21. I see it's dirt cheap to buy 23 but seems like should wait til the new version is released.

          - PGA 2K23 has consumable golf balls that affect how the game plays (more distance, quicker stopping on greens, etc.)...you don't have to use these, but if you play online, you're likely playing against someone who is.
          - PGA 2K23 has better graphics, but still has some visual issues, especially lighting.
          - PGA 2K23 does have more in the way of official real-life courses (Pinehurst No. 2, Spyglass Hill, Pebble Beach, and more).
          - PGA 2K23 has TopGolf (but it's a pretty insignificant addition IMO - it gets old fast).
          - PGA 2K23 does have cross play online multiplayer.
          - PGA 2K23 has MyPlayer archetypes, fittings, and skill points, allowing you customize your character and how they play.
          - PGA 2K23 has playable PGA Tour and LPGA pros, as well as playable "celebrities" like Michael Jordan and John Cena.
          - PGA 2K23 offers a 3-click swing option.

Those are just some differences off the top of my head.

Thank you kindly for that! My default MyPlayer in 21 has a terrible backswing with a collapsing left arm. Is that better w/ the tour pro players you can use? I remember Rory which we played til getting on to 2019 had really good animations.

Animations in 2K23 are better than 2K21, but your created player uses a generic swing and you can't change it. And the one you do have still isn't perfect.

Some of the pros seem to have a "signature" swing in some cases, but I don't believe they were actually motion-captured. For example, Tiger Woods definitely has a unique swing to his character.

Wasn’t expecting a new golf game just yet but I’ll definitely be keeping a look out now I know.
Difficult to judge if it’s a new game or a rehash at this point but I’m hopeful it’s the former.
Nextmakers or whatever they’re called need to be a bit more informed on golf games. Some of the monkeys 2K picked last time round did not have a clue. Some design well but I want to know about the depth of gameplay & if it’s a crapshoot or not. Some experience round these forums on gameplay so hopefully 2K will see sense & employ a better quality opinion.
Saying that it’s in there favour to have monkeys to hide the horror of a bad golf sim.

One of the NextMakers said while streaming some PGA 2K23 rounds last night that the NextMaker program has actually been on pause since June of 2024. He also said he has heard nothing in relation to the next game, so they'll likely be finding out about it at the same time we will be.

Not sure if this is an official account, but there's a new PGATOUR2K account on Bluesky if you prefer your social media fact-checked and Musk-free. They haven't posted anything yet:
