Also, in the features page, there's this mention: "Expect regular PGA TOUR Superstore drops, as well as updates to events, challenges, and Quests."

I am hoping these challenges/Quests are cribbed from EA, where you could do all kinds of one-off challenges based on real golf, or quests that can gain you additional VC as you play the game and reach certain objectives on a daily or weekly basis, and specific course objectives, too.
The drop mechanics were a snap to get right for EA since there were only a handful of courses not gonna be so easy when you have multiple thousands of courses for 2k to deal with. I hope they get it right though. Some designers seem to have a knack for getting legit drop zones for their courses though. Arctic Fury manages it well.

You can try to put "drop zones" in (as I have tried in some of my 2K courses), but if the ball goes into a hazard at a certain angle, you're at the mercy of the game and where it decides you get to drop - it sometimes gives you a line to drop on that is totally perpendicular to the line the ball entered the hazard on.

And to be fair, EA didn't get it right either, as there are times where you hit into water that fronts the green, and can then drop on the green, closer to the hole.

I don't mind giving them the benefit of the doubt, but there are too many bugs like that that have gone unaddressed for years. It's a $70 game that feels like it's been supported and patched as if it were a $20 one-off indy game. That needs to change.

          THIS^^

Please remind me, if someone will, how this BS works. I had to sign up for PS Plus or whatever it's called back in '23 so my buddy and I could *very occasionally* play each other online in 2k21, then 23, and then EA. I haven't played with him or anyone else online since fall of '23.

Is there ANY other reason I should be letting PS Plus or whatever it's called renew at $80 a year, if I'm not going to be doing anything, with any game, other than playing career mode or playing the "stock" online play with unknown players (EA online Match and Foursome, and hopefully 2k25 golf)?

In short, is the only reason I've been paying an extray $59, then $69, now $79 renewal fees to Sony, is to have the ability to play directly with a friend online?

To play any kind of head-to-head or matchmaking online, you have to have PS Plus. However, if you're strictly playing in Societies, offline, etc., you don't need PS Plus.

The only other benefit I get out of PS Plus is the monthly games they include...they aren't "free", but you do get to play them for no cost as long as you keep your PS Plus account active.

Right. Like I mentioned a few days ago:

Release lovely looking, useless trailer that doesn't show any real gameplay; stall as long as possible to rake in as many pre orders based on on the trailer and the press release, then slowly start to show little glimpses of actual gameplay, real clips of what the animation/swing of the golfer looks like, how the courses and graphics have been improved, etc.

Waiting it out this time for sure.

Ok, thanks so much for clarifying that. It's still very much BS. The games are designed to be played online, and solo career, etc., but you have to pay $80 a year just to be able to join *random online matches with strangers* that are an essential part of all games?

                Wow.

That's why we did this as a family. One PS+ account, sharing with my 2 daughters on 2 PS5.

Yeah, from what I've seen I think the way the drop system has worked in 2K is it lets you drop in relation to the hole location and where the ball lands in a hazard, so if you land in water behind a green or to the side of a hole you're usually just screwed. EA didn't get it totally right by leaving out drop zones on many par 3s and other holes (*cough* 15 at Augusta, and Sawgrass in general), but they at least have the ball placed where it enters a hazard which is much closer to how it works on the PGA Tour. I can get the logic of 2K going with a simpler approach with all those created courses, but I think it's still been a big complaint from what I've seen.

Details are minimal at this point, but they have called out things like "equipment progression", "level up tokens", "Evo Tools", etc. in the pre-order bonuses. They also still use the term "cosmetic" when distinguishing a golf ball item, so I'd assume that means there will still be consumable balls as well.

Things like that are assumed to be in games these days, but I hope it doesn't go more into the pay to win side of things...

EDIT - the game is now up for pre-order on Steam, with a new screenshot included:

I’m new here and hoping this image shows up from the OP!

The new main screen (?) looks fantastic compared to the last two releases - everything is right there, no more clicks to get to the mode you want to click on.

And i note in the lower right hand corner an overall rating like in every other sports game i play. 85 OVR, Level 5. What’s that about? Sounds promising right away to me, lol.

Especially since it’s right next to something called Manage My PlayerS. Plural? Is this simply those playing partners we could create in previous 2k editions? They were called Guests. Could this be something the community has asked for? That being multiple MyPlayers with different characteristics so i can swap out my current golfer with a different one and swap back later if i choose…without having take two golfers out to do it and therefore being confined to casual mode.

I’m not going to make any assumptions but that screen shot of the locker area definitely has new terminology. Must be a reason.

Excited about the new game but there are some features I would like to see that have been lacking in the previous installments including the ability to have a quick play round as one of the PGA Pros against the CPU PGA Pro and when playing as one of the pros would prefer to see their actual name instead of my gamertag id.

Nice. I was able to see there are 4 elements to Evo swing. Contact, rhythm, transition and swing path. How those all work together we will have to see but seems promising to me that multiple elements effect shot.

Noticed the shot type presentation/style seemed more in line with EA's...they specifically showed the "Stinger". Not sure how it will actually be implemented, but it does seem "inspired" by what EA did.

They also showed a lot of customization stuff, some things from career mode, and actual gameplay with the new swing. Looks like you have "followers" in career mode, there are a ton more faces to choose from when creating a player, etc.

Hope the video gets released here again soon...after all, tomorrow marks one month to early release!
