    Holy problems USGP!

Anyone watching the USGP? Crazy things going on. As of now, the teams that are running Michelin tires, plus Jordan and one other team, aren't planning on racing today if a chicane is not place in turn 13 at Indy. That is the area where the road course meets the oval.

Michelin is saying that they won't allow their teams to race unless that chicane is placed. The problem with that is, the FIA doesn't/won't allow Indy to change the track. Who knows what's going to happen.

Well, while I was writing this, the Michelin teams did take the grid, so who knows. Find out in about 15 minutes.

Holy smokes, I can't believe it. Only 6 cars took the start. The Ferraris, the Jordans, and the Minardis. I'm pretty much in shock right now. I can only imagine how the people that are there are feeling.

I don't see how Bernie could let this happen. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

This is insane. 14 cars pulled into the pits after the warmup lap. 6 cars start the race. Can you imagine buyin a ticket to this race?

Damn, I turned this on expecting to see the race and I see the reporter running around asking people what's going on. This is freakin shady. I feel bad for all the people who shelled out that much money to watch the race.

EDIT: And now the fans are throwing stuff onto the track

Bob Varsha trying to plead to the fans to not throw things. I'm not sure what the ticket prices were for this thing, but I'd be more than just a little upset at this mess.

No kidding man. Especially since most of them probably don't even know what's going on. Friday when I was watching practice I was upset I couldn't go because of work. Now I'm happy I ended selling my tickets. I can't even imagine how I would feel if I was there.

I've really wanted to go to the USGP, but now I'm really doubting I will if the tire makers can't make a tire to get them through the track. I may just stick to my Cleveland GP next week for the Champ Cars

Formula One in America is probably dead and gone now. I don't see fans returning after an event like this, it's a real shame. F1 will now be looked at like a huge joke. I'm surprised alot of the fans seem to be sticking around. If I was in the crowd, I would demand my money back, and would have left already. Pathetic that F1 could let this happen.

It's not entirely Michelin's fault. Indy resurfaced the track and I know they were having problems with it in May. Michelin probably didn't have time to test with their tires to see if they would hold. I would still think they could have brought a tire that would work, but I guess not.

That being said, if you have the chance to go next year, go. It is a complete blast. Nothing like anything else you will see in the States. I've been every year except for this one and loved every moment of it.

I's about time they switched to one tire manufactuer anyway. I know safety is a huge concern but hey let the drivers race. Of course if someone did crash and died or was severly injured because of tire failure well then it obviously would have been a bad descision. You can probably kiss good bye a US f1 race next year.

                        Re: Holy problems USGP!

This has been a really bad weekend for F1 all around. First Ecclestone with his ******** comments about Danica, and then the actual "race"...(If that's what you want to call it.) I don't think they will stop racing in the US, but this certainly isn't going to help F1's popularity in the States. All the Danica hype is regenerating interest in open-wheel racing here, and the IRL is experiencing a huge resurgance. It's too bad F1 missed an opportunity to feed on that with this debauchle. I don't know if it's Michelin's fault, or the teams' faults or what, but they really blew it with all the negative publicity all week because of Bernie and then this non-race to cap off the weekend.

                        Very dissapointing.

                        I also read this today:

"Bernie Ecclestone told the Indianapolis Star that the decision to have Formula One return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2006 is in Tony George's hands.

The report goes on to indicate that the "Speedway's primary form of revenue is ticket sales, which means a crowd of 120,000 (the 2004 crowd estimate) doesn't cover the estimated $15 million the Speedway pays Ecclestone's company to stage a race.""

Ecclestone should retire before he drives his sport into the ground.

This truly was one of the most horrendious things I have ever witnessed. I was there all three days, first two were amazing, last one has left me ill. As far as i am concerned, Michellin should be banned from f1, and immediatlly use bridgestone as the only tire. They have been coming to this race now for 6 years. 6 YEARS! This is not their first run at a new track, they have dealt with the banking in years past, and have held up fine. They knew this going in, and chose to supply teams with the wrong compound. You can not expect f1 to comply to your demands then when you screw up. Changing the course is out of the question, as well is bringing in new tires. You simply cannot punish the other teams whom came prepared. f1 needs to do something to those teams that did not compete, or they will have a huge problem on their hands. They need to erase all of the points those teams have earned to set a point that this cannot be aloud. Whats next, minardi and jordan boycotting because they cant turn enough rpms? We are at a point were f1 has to change, or the percusions around will be felt throughout the sport. The worst part is the fans. I sat next to a group of 10 columbians who flew in for the race, spent 10s of thousands of dollars collectively, just to see their driver. They are now sent home with possibly the worst sporting expereince of their lives. Very few in the crowd are from indiana, many come from all over the country and world. Those are the real losers. I could care less about mclaren or bmw, the fans are the only reason they even get a chance to race.

Another harsh reminder to everyone that the business of racing can get very ugly. Out of all of this the one thing I kept thinking since I heard this news is that Paul (PK500) must be going through hell! PK I hope this weekend was not to bad for you and I would hate to be in your shoes as I'm sure some fool in the media will use this to take a cheap shot at IMS. F1 was never on solid footing in the U.S and I would assume this sent F1 back at least 10 years in this country. The U.S sports fan does not take kindly to work stoppages in sports. Just look at what it has done to baseball and who knows how the NHL will be when they decide to come back.

So should Goodyear be banned from Nascar and Firestone from the IRL? You do remember all the problems they had in April and May don't you? Keep in mind, if the 500 wasn't a month long thing, this same thing would have happened in the IRL as well.

Think about this, Firestone and Bridgestone, what do they have in common? Is it really hard to believe that Firestone shared some infomation with Bridgestone? I believe they did. They knew specific problems going in, and adjusted for it. Michelin didn't have that advantage.

You also have to keep in mind that not all the Michelin teams had this problem. I can't tell you how many drivers they interviewed on SPEED that said their team hadn't had a problem at all.

JC, I can only start to imagine the problems PK is having right now. When I first heard about this the first thing I thought of was him.
