Any F1 guys here?
Just curious if there were any F1 racing fans here. See plenty of Nascar threads, some Indy and Champ, but no F1. I know, after the USGP fiasco, its not the most popular sport in the US right now, but, barring that (a big bar, I know), this has been one of the most interesting seasons in recent memory.PSN: TheEnglishHombreTags: None -

I also found 1999 to be more fascinating than this year because Irvine, not the injured chosen one M. Schumacher, actually had a chance to deliver Ferrari its first Drivers' title since Jody Scheckter in 1979. Plus remember that Heinz-Harald Frentzen had a shot to win the title in a Jordan as late as Monza, which he won. Could it have been only six years ago that Jordan had the third-best car on the grid? In the end, Hakkinen won the title justly.
But yeah, as f*cked up as F1 can be off the track and as listless the racing can be at times on the track, I'm a Yank who still loves it. Ultimate technology, ultimate challenge to drive on the edge, pinnacle of motorsport.
Take care,

Re: Any F1 guys here?
I like watching F1 races a lot. When I see a race on I tune in and watch the whole race, but I have to admit I don't follow the series as closely as a faithful follower of the series would. Was able to catch the inaugural Turkish GP this past weekend though.

Massive F1 fan here as well, So. Cal. Check the F1racing.net website everyday, that's how sick I am.Glad I didn't go to the USGP after watching it. Had to work.
Watching Schumi and all of ferrari struggle has been somewhat interesting. I'm a huge ferrari fan btw. I dye my hair bright ferrari red and have the horse dyed on the back (wear my hair pretty short) when I attend the USGP.
I'm happy to see Rubens going to BAR, hopefully now he will at least not be told all the time how to drive the car. No question Shumi is far better, but there have been quite a few instances in which Rubens has been competitive with Shumi. I hope Rubens does well. I have always liked him. Also interesting is all the time Valentino Rossi has been putting in, in a ferrari at their maranello track. (I'm a huge MotoGp fan as well) I should have been born in europe!
Anyway, sorry to ramble. Just wanted to say I'm an F1 fan too, and hello!Comment

Re: Any F1 guys here?
F1, in my opinion, is the best form of racing besides sprintcars, and thats only because im tied to the sport. I try to attend 2-3 f1 races a year, and hoping they return to the states again next year. I have grown up a ferrari fan, my father instilled that into me, and is very painful this year to watch them struggle. I dont think they will make a large comeback next year, as their problems seem to be large to overcome in one offseason. But, they have been dominant for along time now, maybe they need a little time off to get back to reality"Basketball may have been born in Massachusetts, but it grew up in Indiana." - James NaismithComment

Re: Any F1 guys here?
Wow, glad to see all the responses. I grew up with F1 in the UK, and it's hugely popular worldwide, but I was always amazed it never pulled viewers in the US. Lack of an American driver doesnt help (although that might change soon), and this years USGP just about killed any momentum there was.
I'm a David Coulthard fan myself, so I've been cheering for Red Bull. I think this year could have been a lot better if not for some bad luck. DC had a chance at the Euro GP 'till he sped in pit lane, and, of course, Hungary completely blew. Glad to see he signed on for one more year.
I think the move to BAR will be good for Rubens. He's been under the shadow of Michael for too long, and this move will give him a greater opportunity to showcase his skills, instead of being viewed as the other guy in the red car. This year's been kinda rough, but he clearly still has the talent to compete.
As Ferrari fans, though, what's your guys opinion on Massa? Guy hasn't exactly been startling this year (admitedly in a Sauber); you think he has a bright future?PSN: TheEnglishHombreComment

not a big F1 fan here, but one moment i'll never forget is in '94 i was in a hotel on a school class trip, and a roommate had the F1 race on. Happened to be the race Ayerton Senna died, i'll never forget watching that live, my most vivid F1 memory.
I tend to follow it online a bit, but usually don't catch the races on the speed channel, i've gotta look for them more, i know i'd enjoy themNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

And TIVO is a godsend. Here out west, most races start around 4:30am, and I would always forget to wake up. This year, I haven't missed a race since Monaco.PSN: TheEnglishHombreComment

If it makes left and right hand turns I'm into it. F1 is not my favorite series but I watch it. More so then I do the circus that is called NASCAR. I'm looking forward to see how Cosworth does with Williams. Cheering for Williams is not something i have done since Senna drove there so it has been awhile.Team Tonis Kasemets

Re: Any F1 guys here?
I'm still a fan of F1, although after the mess at this years USGP I gave up my tickets (had them for every USGP at Indy). I still catch the races on TV (I Tivo them if need be also.)
Rubens is my favorite driver, and it will be nice next year to see him race Schumi without Jean Todt screaming in his ear!
This years championship is pretty interesting so far, and I think it will get very close before its over. Renault is hearing footsteps, and I think they may slip up here and there to let Kimi get right up there with Fernando. If I had to pick right now I'd say that Kimi will take the championship (but it won't be easy!)Comment

Hah! It’s Monday afternoon and I was just thinking of posting such a topic. Been an F1 fan for a long time – Forza Gilles Villeneuve!!!
I have however lost some of my religion all thanks to FIA who never ceases to mess with the regulations. Max Mosley is a deadbeat who may very well split the sport in half one day.
