Need for Speed Carbon IGN Review
EA returns to the flashy urban nights of Underground with a robust next-gen effort.

    8.2

    Closing Comments
Need For Speed Carbon isn't a revolutionary game and it's far from a stinker. Instead, it's what EA does best, usually. It creates pretty good games with lots of features. Carbon switches out drag racing and Pacific North West backgrounds for drift racing and inner city urban streets. The freaky FMV filtered stuff is back and there seems to be more than ever (too much?). The drifting is an acquired taste (but it's good), the canyon duals are decent changes (though not great), and the crews...well, they suck. Of the myriad new features, the addition of muscle cars and the online functionality are the best. The muscle cars bring real challenge and change to the races and the online games (when lag isn't hampering you) are great cop-chase endeavors.

Just what I expected a typical rehashed EA game. I thought the demo was average and it felt and played more like NFSU2. I'll buy it since racing games are my favorite genre but not till it hits the proverbial $20-$30 sweet spot.

Rod, I might pick this up next week since I have 3 extra games now from FYE to due an even exchange for.

Demo was HORRIBLE. Candy, I thought you said you hated the demo? I don't think I'd even pay $19.99 for this game.

I didn't care for the demo, but I could say the same with Test Drive Unlimited and everyone loved that game. Since I still have these games from FYE, I'm considering getting this game.

well the drifting sounds interesting, as I was kinda pissed off that they basically took it out of MW. While the challenges were gone, you could still do them in the race, with that lame matrix slow down stuff. But you almost always lost or cut down your lead heavily to the rubber band A.I. if you tried it. I was a champ at the underground drifting.

I think the series went downhill after underground..the first one. I didn't even finish most wanted. The crew idea sounded horrible from the first moment I read about them.

Only thing that I really don't care about here is the team racing idea & drifting between some of the level.

EA needs to get NFS back on track though to what it was like with Hot Pursuit which meant the game was fun to play and not a chore.

Why call this Carbon, they should have just gone with Underground 3.

                      TeamXBOX gave it a 8.1

                      http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360...eed-Carbon/p1/

                      The Bottom Line

For attempting to satiate the entire racing game populous with a single title, EA has done a pretty fine job. Would a super-mega tuner game have been a better move? Would a follow-up to the pursuit-style racing of Most Wanted have made more sense? Maybe and maybe.

Need for Speed Carbon proves that the NFS series still has legs, and can pretty much follow any trend currently being plied in the auto industry. While not the be-all-end-all of the fun racer, Need for Speed Carbon delivers entertaining gameplay that should equate to fun for those that have 10W30 coursing through their veins

Cman I think they also mentioned the game has framerate issues. That's a big deal because with the bright colored lights in the game that would give me a headache in 2 minutes.

I might rent the game or wait till it drops to $20 but I would not pay full retail for Carbon.

Difference being, if you've played Most Wanted, you've played Carbon, it's almost the same game. TDU is completely different. And I liked the demo sans the controls, and those tightened up for the retail game.

Get TDU and skip Carbon. Or just buy Most Wanted (or did you do that already? I can't remember with you ). But paying $60 for Carbon seems waaaaaaay to expensive.

I bought MW and have really enjoyed it. I have that Sears ad for Carbon, $39.99 so I'll try to get it with that.
