What company should develop a NASCAR Sim?

Having exclusive rights to ANY license (NFL, NASCAR, MLB etc) is wrong! Takes away from innovation and competition if you ask me. Guess its obvious with recent titles we have seen from EA and 2K with the baseball games.

NASCAR is America's fastest growing sport. Something with so much attention like NASCAR deserves a sim that lets people experience what that type of racing is all about. Lets face it, Papyrus is over and done with. They have been for awhile (unfortunately) but NASCAR 2003 still lives on. That pretty much shows you what a great product they created over 4 years ago. I wish they would come back and develop a "generic" stock car simulation and let the mod community come alive with car sets and track updates. One can only imagine if Papy was still around and how their sim would be after 4 more updates since the last one. It would of been a phenomenal product!

I will give EA some credited on their version this year. They have made some improvements on the physics and added ways to tune the car which was absent from previous titles. However, it is still a far cry from NR2003. The AI can be shoddy at times along with the damage model which allows one bump destroy the entire vehicle. This takes away from the experience of the game. They also took some of the pageantry away which EA was so famous for years ago. I miss the singing of the National Anthem and fly overs before the race, maybe thats cheesy but its something that got me excited before a race. Even a "Drivers, start your engines!" would be nice, like Papy had.

To bad Codemasters can't develop a NASCAR game. They have been pretty good lately with creating great rally and Indy racing simulations for consoles.

I guess Papy if your out there, PLEASE COME BACK!!! Thanks for your time, just had to say my two cents.

I'd like to see 2K give Nascar a try

They are now called iRacing ! http://www.iracing.com

The only current generic stock car racing sim is found in rFactor. Actually there are several Stock Car sims available for rFactor.

I would like to see Codemasters come up with next gen version of Nascar Heat.

Papy would be the first choice
Codemaster would be the second choice for me at least.

Mniner and Dave, I have to agree with both of your comments. I would love to see Codemasters and or Papy. I'm hoping that Ea will just let the license exclusivity end at the end of the 08 season and 2 or 3 company's jump in the game again.

                Wishful thinking.

EA is in the Nascar family of games for the long haul as much as it pains me to say it. Oh well I still have NR2003.

I unfortunately Have to agree. Although I am very happy for the most part with EA's Console racer this year, It obviously is not as clean of a racer as Thunder, Heat or 2003. Oh well, I have 2003 and 08 for the 360....so I'm content.............right now of course.

Well I would love to be excited about this game, but when it gets pushed back 27 times, it starts to temper the old flame of excitement

i know, it's even making me mad, and im on the beta team, but once it comes out you will forget about all this. plus the series they are talking about putting together will be great. 400 people trying to make a race. Should be fun.

Well, after tweaking it a good bit, I have to admit I'm fairly pleased with EA's effort this year. However, I'd love to see what Papy could could do with another shot. As good as NR2003 is( and it's still the best there is) can you imagine what they could do with 4 years of improvement?

Re: What company should develop a NASCAR Sim?

I have to say that the Sim Factory looks promising. Guess we will find out later this year when it should be released.

EA should just hire the entire Papy team and have them develop a sim for them. That way they can reap the monetary benefits and still put out the best NASCAR sim possible. Guess its all politics, but I read somewhere that they did have an ex-Papy guy on the development team for the 08 version.

They could easily patch up the 08 version too, just need to adjust some of the AI especially after cautions. Tone down the damage model for sure.

Wouldn't it be something to have a NASCAR sim feature full course yellows where crash trucks and ambulances arrive at wreck and clean up the mess? I sill haven't figured out why no one can incorporate that into a sim. THink Codemasters had something like that in their Indy Racing league sim.

                            Have a good one!

EA did hire some of the former Papy team, a few as a matter of fact with mixed results. That started I believe in 2004 and Nascar Sim Racing while touted to be the end all of Nascar sims was a complete joke and utter failure. So much so that they pulled the plug on any future Nascar PC games.

It's not that EA doesn't have the talent or money it's that they focus on mediocrity. They want a game to cater to the sim crowd while the average Nascar fan who has never played a PC game to also have an equal experience. It never works. You either focus on a sim style experience or an arcade racer. Papyrus knew that. It was there passion and they threw caution to the wind. That's why they continued to build on every future release.

In the end NAscar Thunder 2004 turned out to be a better racer than Nascar Sim Racing.
