    Why not Nascar?

EA releases every other major sports game(Madden, NCAA, NBA, NHL,) before the season starts, so why not Nascar?

Anyone else upset that we don't have a new Nascar game to play when the Daytona 500 comes around? I mean, I know that I can play Nascar '08, but its a year behind. Drivers not updated to current teams and what not.

Come on EA! Nascar is the fastest growing sport in America. Why not treat it as such?

I have wondered this for years, I mean if they released it during race week, it would be great, but EA doesnt care about NASCAR.

Oh how I would love to have a new Nascar game to play the week of Daytona. But, I guess its never going to happen.

I pre ordered Arca Sim Racing it's suppose to be here by speedweeks so I'm looking forward to that. As far as EA's Nascar series I'll be glad when thier license is up so we can get some good nascar sims again.

          Arca Sim Racing?

          What platform is that on?

PC It looks quite great. Progressive lighting changing track tempatures, weather. http://www.simracingtonight.com/ has downloads of online races they have run the Milwakee Mile race featured Dale Jr. and Martin Truex Jr. and after the race Dale gave an interview on how well he liked the game.

Yeah I know it sucks that it is not out at the start of the season. Arca looks great and I may give this a shot. My only question, is this only an online racer or can we race in a season offline?

it's all about getting the game out before the christmas season. it's the same way with the tiger woods series.

Yeah but golf really doesn't have an offseason. I mean yes, the PGA Tour's season ends, but they continue to play in touraments and classics and whatnots during the winter months as well as the summer.

Nascar has a beginning and an ending to its season and an off period where the boys are no longer racing.

It will have a offline season and downloadable tracks. All tracks that the Arca series runs including the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds dirt track and the return to racing at Rockingham

Game is encrypted, so hopefully it will take people awhile to break that. Yes, I would prefer not to see mods.

That said, I can't wait for the game. Been following it for almost a year now and am very excited for it to come out.

If you want the greatest NASCAR sim ever released, without question, get NASCAR Racing 2003 Season for the PC. The physics are great, the AI is superb, and there are a TON of free mods available, such as:

Car of Tomorrow (two different mods)
                            Busch Series
                            Craftsman Truck Series
                            Whelen Modified
                            1990 Winston Cup
                            1988 Winston Cup
                            1970 Grand National
                            Saturday Night Stock Car

There also are more than 100 tracks available for free download. Pick an asphalt track in America that has played host to a NASCAR touring series race in the last 25 years, and there's a good chance someone has made it available. There also are dirt tracks available, but the physics aren't great for those since the game engine was designed for asphalt.

There also are an INSANE amount of free paint jobs available for every series, including real and fictional schemes. Incredibly talented painters.

At last count, I had more than 1,200 cars, 100 tracks and seven mods in my NR 2003 directory. All of the add-ons are free.

NR 2003 also has rock-solid online code and many active leagues still racing with it, even though the game is more than 5 years old.

ARCA Sim Racing sounds like a good game, but the decision to restrict the mod community could bite it in the azz in the long run. The ARCA series has little appeal outside of the hardcore stock car racing community, so after a while, people will tire of running as Frank Kimmel, Dexter Bean and Justin Marks instead of Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart.

The game never will have widespread appeal because ARCA doesn't have widespread appeal. The hardcore ARCA and PC sim racing fans probably don't care, and that's cool. But any expectations that this game will have the sales and long-term appeal of NR 2003, with its NASCAR license, and extensive and active mod community, are wishful thinking.

I'm sorry if that ruffles the feathers of ARCA Sim Racing disciples in here, but that's reality. I'm very interested in trying ARCA Sim Racing and hope it does well. I'm thankful someone has picked up the true stock car sim torch from Papyrus, as the stock car mods for rFactor SUCK compared to NR 2003, including the overrated TPSCC.

But when you factor in the quality of the game and the still-thriving, rich mod and online communities, NR 2003 is the king. Long live the king.

                            Take care,
                            PK
