I need to get a few races in now since the nationwide series is C class with a SR 4.0 requirement..

      Re: iRacing

I'm having fun so far but man am I slow. It's going to take me awhile to shake off the rust, I guess. I can run clean in short track races (unless someone takes me out) but I'm struggling to finish on the lead lap. On the road courses...forget about it. I've been testing at Lime Rock for the past few days and all I can do is about a 1:09 in the rookie Solstice. I haven't even tried a time trial yet because I still have too many track excursions and don't want to screw up my SR.

I guess I'll be sticking with the rookie Legends and Solstice cars for now until I can start consistently turning some fast laps in them. No point in moving up to anything else until I can master the rookie cars and tracks.

Try out the advanced legends too, they are harder, but you can at least adjust to them. Plus i think they are cleaner races.

Well, I finally broke down and joined Iracing. I had to go out and buy a logitech Momo wheel....but I just joined, really just for the Nascar series.

Downloading the software as we speak, and pretty excited.

Absolutely running practice tonight. The Wife is LA for week and I am all alone. Another guy( RunN1st or Mniner on OS ) is going to join also laterthis evening....

Can more than 2 people practice at a time. I realize that this question may sound really bad......but I am not sure.

Ya online practice has 20 slots available, I dont remember how long the rookie sessions are for. Maybe 45 minutes or an hour?

Fellas, I'm excited for y'all. I don't know if I can ever play iRacing again, but I know y'all will have a great time. I got as far as the advanced legends and I had a great time, awesome races, real white knuckle racing. You guys will love it, good luck.

Thanks, I plan on doing that soon. Right now I just want get a good feel for the cars before I start screwing with setups.

I made some progress today on both the South Boston oval and the Lime Rock Park road course, although I'm still not blowing anyone's doors off. I am getting faster, though.

I picked up the Logitech Momo and it seems pretty solid so far.

My best time trial time so far is 18.425. My best individual lap is around 18.2.

Alright, I gave this a shot with all of the starter stuff last year when it first released and it felt a bit sparse and restrictive. After being urged to give it another go, and hearing great things from so many people, I'm going to give it a full run just to see if I went into it closed-minded before. I'm still not sure about being forced to show up at specific times to race, no AI cars, etc, but there has to be more to it than I first saw.

Would i actually have a chance to be competitive if i get this?

Or do i have to get some crazy car setups which are impossible to gain any time even when i seem to go faster.

I know very little about setups and use setups that most people post on the forums. Right now i am 30th in the Pro rankings, so you dont have to know much about sets, and the ones that people put up are good.

Just takes alot of practice to know how hard to drive the car, and what you need to do to your line later in the runs.

The rookie cars are fixed setups so you dont even have to worry about that when you first join.
