good luck with that. unfortunately since everyone races online, setups are like gold that noone is willing to let go of.

here's 1 from 08 with 1 current 09 setup (not sure if 08 will work for 09 yet)

and has you can see the site was rarely updated due to the secrecy of the setups.

i've always found that you just start racing with a group of guys and practice with them all the time. Between your little group you should start testing stuff and sharing ideas etc and watch your times improve.

LOL, well if I knew what to do to best tune a car for a given track I would share it with you guys. I know nothing about setups, but I will keep playing around and se what I can come up with.

            Re: Nascar 09 setup thread

Basic overview for using subtle tweaks to really help your stock car:

If it's oversteering and wants to spin out a lot, increase front sway bar or decrease rear sway bar, and move weight bias forward.

If it's understeering and pushing to the wall, decrease front sway bar, increase rear (or both), move weight bias back.

You can really start getting deeper into it based on loose or tight on corner entry, middle, or exit, but as a rule of thumb, I tinker with the sway bars first and then tinker from there. You should be able to get a consistently handling car just by messing with sway bars. Once you come to grips with that, then you start dealing with shocks, tire temps (harder tires=faster speed, less grip, but better wear, etc), and other things, but sway bars are usually my first stop to fix a base setup.

Here is a great site I've found recently: http://www.racelinecentral.com/

It's got some excellent articles on setting up cars. But also, it has some great art for use in painting your car. I would definitely give this place a visit.

I put together a simple MS word file that is a quick and dirty setup how-to. It's attached below. I've sized it so you can print it out on one page.

Nice, thanks! Oh, i had to look it up, but Understeer means "tight" and Oversteer means "loose" in the more common vernacular, just as a FYI for people like me who aren't as familiar with the technical terms yet.

Thanks Bahnzo. That's formatted as a cheat-sheet much better than the 12 page .pdf monster that's been out on Raceline.

Here's a couple setup tip sites that are helpful.

Unfortunately, I can't find much on the COT splitter and wing setups/adjustments. Obviously, most everything is for the old body style.

Thanks for the help. I like the game and would like to get good enough that I don't make an *** of myself.

No problem. Never in a million years thought I'd say anything even remotely similar to this about an EA NASCAR title, but you know a game is destined for greatness when so many people, who don't care about NASCAR or racing in general, love it so much and are interested in learning other aspects of the sport.

Amazing. I'm still waiting for the major wart to show up that makes it unplayable.

my only concern is the online boost to your sprint cars by beating the challenges...

i want to race from a even standpoint and adjusts with setups from there, not some invisible boost you gain from running the challenge races...

                          Any thoughts on that Terry?

                            Re: Nascar 09 setup thread

I really don't know how much to buy into that, honestly. I think some guys have transferred 08 setups over to 09, as I saw some guys at Atlanta on day one that were running mid 28's. I thought it was the "super car" thing. Last night I go on and guys are saying that they transferred their setups from 08 and they're even faster in 09, and they hadn't done challenges or single player yet, and they were in the 28's.

The first night, I was in the 29 flat range, and my speedway and superspeedway cars were around 75. Last night I was in the 29 flat range with a car maxed at 100. I didn't see this phantom "boost" when I went from a mid-car to a maxed car, but I can't say for certain that it's not there.

I do know that there seem to be more and more guys who are just dusting the "normal" field. I like to just run the default advanced setup and maybe make a tweak here and there. I got it down to a high 28 on the standard advanced setup with sway bar, tire pressure, and shock adjustments, but I really don't know whether that whole thing is true or not yet.

I honestly wonder if people just need to find a reason as to why somebody is dusting them so badly. I have no idea, but I haven't seen it personally. My lap times with the same setup have remained consistent from "starter" career car to maxed, and I've completed something like 60 of the 77 challenges now.

                              Re: Nascar 09 setup thread

there are guys testing it out specifically and posting on the EA forums.

there is even "supposedly" a bug that makes cars faster if they only upgraded the "engine" portion of their car in the "super speedway" catagory.

They are running a good 2 seconds faster than they were without these upgrades on Daytona. They changed nothing else in there setups.

People are talking like its a fact that points on your car gained in the Sprint challenges boost your cars performance online.. beyond any setup you can tweak.

I really hope it's not the case, i would hate for things to be unbalanced beyond setups..
