    Re: IndyRacing Series on XBox

I played it last night for a few hours on XBox. I read some review that said you could jump into the hardest level without a problem, which is crap. Without changing setup options, you're lucky to lead a race on easy. Of course, I left some "auto AI" setting on, which made them always as fast as me. After 5 races in the series on easy, I've only won once...then again, I won the Indy 500 mode on 100% AI with that setting off by a few seconds. I'll have to turn off that auto AI crap and change it to hard and see what happens.

The handling seems pretty good...I've never driven an IRL car, obviously, but they are fast and twitchy in the game. They stick really well (hammer down around most tracks, just breathing the throttle some to set the car for a corner), and I'm not sure if it's more arcade than sim yet.

I know it's fun, although I'll have to find better damage settings...I plowed a wall a few times with no damage, and the inability to look left or right from the cockpit really gets me. You know a car is there, and they're so dependent upon running in tight quarters, yet you have no rearview mirrors or ability to look around.

I've enjoyed the hell out of it so far, but there are a couple things that eat at me the more I play it.

      Terry:

The lack of mirrors is a bummer. But as you know, the mirrors in an IRL IndyCar Series car are tiny. You can't see that much in them.

Plus with the HANS Device and IRL-mandated headrest, it's virtually impossible to turn your head in the cockpit to look. You're limited to your peripheral vision.

That's why an accurate spotter is so important, and I think the spotter audio in IndyCar Series is better than any console racing game I've ever played.

Still, mirrors need to be added to the sequel. The Codies know this.

      Take care,

PK...I'm with you on the head turning ability, I didn't even think about it. I couldn't even FIT into the cockpit, let alone imagine a driver turning his head.

But that's my problem. The spotter (from what I've seen) is wayyyyyyyy behind in ICS. I changed to an external view, and I was clear by a full second before he said I was clear. Give me one or the other...I'm less than happy with the spotter so far (although I did manage two more wins, at Texas and Richmond, at lunch...sandwiched around an 18th place finish at Pikes Peak...man, I hate that place). If the spotter is behind, then give me the "fake" ability to look around. If he is on target, no problem. It's like they're forcing you to drive in external camera just to see your surroundings.

Well this is going to take some getting used to. I'm not that up with open wheel racing and have to admit I struggled with this last night.I'm looking forward to having the time to go through the masterclass properly and learning how to set my car up.
I raced a little last night on pro with AI set at 100% and found it a little frustrating because my car wasn't set up that well. All in all I think I will really enjoy this game as it is more realistic than any driving game I can think of at the moment.

                              Kev:

                              A few, basic setup tips:

                              1. Add more front wing. It will help correct the understeer that's prevalent in this game.

                              2. Remove some rear wing. It's pretty damn tough to get oversteer in this game, so you can remove rear wing. That will give you more speed and help to further correct understeer.

                              3. Reduce front tire pressures a couple of pounds from the default setup. That will give you more grip at the entrance of the turns, helping to reduce understeer. Plus the speed that you've lost from lower tire pressures up front will be overcome by the speed gained by reducing the rear wing angle.

                              Good luck!

P.S.: You should play as Jeff Ward. It's the No. 9 Target car, which is Scott Dixon's ride now!

                              Take care,
