    Re: IndyRacing Series on XBox

    Kev:

    A few, basic setup tips:

    1. Add more front wing. It will help correct the understeer that's prevalent in this game.

    2. Remove some rear wing. It's pretty damn tough to get oversteer in this game, so you can remove rear wing. That will give you more speed and help to further correct understeer.

    3. Reduce front tire pressures a couple of pounds from the default setup. That will give you more grip at the entrance of the turns, helping to reduce understeer. Plus the speed that you've lost from lower tire pressures up front will be overcome by the speed gained by reducing the rear wing angle.

    Good luck!

P.S.: You should play as Jeff Ward. It's the No. 9 Target car, which is Scott Dixon's ride now!

    Take care,

      Terry:

I didn't even know the spotter was behind. I'm usually a bit cautious and wait a "one-one thousand" before making a move after the spotter talks.

The lack of mirrors hurts, but I'm finding that I'm staying out of trouble by listening to my spotter, clicking on the right thumbstick for a quick rear view when I can and being careful.

Yeah, I tend to try to cut up the track as quick as possible to divide the wind resistance, and get a good corner entry again. The cpu cars just seem to drive right around me on the outside if I don't cut them off. Tonight I think I'll take off that auto AI and bump up the skill, see if that helps. It's funny when I can qual on the pole at Indy with a 230something, and then in a race they're all just whipping by me like I am turning 215's.

                  Terry:

One of the many racing-related things this game simulates very well is the "tow" from other cars.

It's very tough to run away from the field, especially on the tracks 1.5 miles and longer. In the rare occurrences when you do break away, the other cars get in line and ride the aerodynamic train right up to your gearbox in a couple of laps, just like in reality.

I could agree with that, if it happened both ways. I have a lot to do as far as tinkering with the cars (only had the game 2 days now), but it seems like they can blow by me, but I have to get REALLY close to them to take advantage of the draft. I can see them picking up massive speed from 10 carlengths back, whereas I have to be almost on them to get a good run on them.

I'll figure it out more. I liked it on Pro...saw that the easy setting had no damage (duh). It was much more fun on Pro without Auto AI.

I need to try it without auto AI. I'm getting competitive races with the AI adjustment turned on, but if you say it's more fun with it off, I'll give it a whirl!
