      Re: iRacing after 2+ years

I hooked my Oculus Rift back up, drilled some holes in my old desk and set up my wheel and pedals. I recently took down my rig due to space issues so this was my temporary solution. Once I had that done I signed back up and took the new dirt for a spin.

Driving that 410 in virtual reality is a thrill. I was having so much fun playing that way. I'm pretty good on a tacky track but when it slicks out on exit I'm having some issues. Running into the wall a lot to be exact.

Anyways, I'm just doing unofficial races, for now, to not tank my iRating and SR but I'm having a lot of fun sliding around the dirt track.

The Non-Wing USAC 360 & 410 Sprints were released Monday. The 360 is alot of fun and still a challenge. The 410 is just flat out a beast. Think they need to a bit of tweaking to it. Seems impossible to actually get the car to slide right. Now if we can just get some tracks smaller then 1/2 mile. Which the USAC press release made mention of Kokomo, IN which is a 1/4 mile and Bellville which is another 1/2 mile.

Any folks here still iRacing? Well, I know Kneebon5 is because I watch his YouTube channel, haha. After a break of a few years, I just started iRacing again last month. Already lost like 700 iRating back into the mid-4500s as I break off the rust! But very fun. Been concentrating mostly on the Arca, Gen 4, and 87 Cup Cars series so far. I think the 87 cars may be my favorite from a standpoint of longer, generally clean, races. The Gen 4 cars are amazing to drive, but the series tends to be a wreckfest. I like Arca for not having to deal with cautions, but haven't figured out the optimal way to drive the car yet (I think I usually do better with more HP, momentum racing I struggle with more).

I've done a little road, as well, but the rust is even worse there.

Honestly…I went back to NR2003. IRacing was ok before Covid but after the Covid jump the quality of racing went way downhill. It’s still the best online oval racing out there but I prefer offline games anyway so NR2003 fits that bill perfectly. Better then heat 5 and still updated monthly with mods.

Interesting. Somehow I’ve seem to have missed automobilsta. May have to check it out.

                  Re: iRacing after 2+ years

Signed up for iRacing again this past weekend. Really missing my oval fix and now that their AI has been out for awhile, figured it was worth a shot. Ran 3-4 races over the weekend all against AI and overall was impressed. If you use the autostages add on, they don't really do stage strategy well. But can't complain. But it produces a much better oval racing AI experience then anything else out there, and I'd say on par with the gold standard NR2003...without feeling so dated.

Oh and iRacing is finally getting rain today...which means I'll never run a official race with it. LOL

Yeah today changes everything, the game finally feels complete with rain.

Going to be crazy looking at the early release videos. Plus micro sprints and SRX, should be a fun build.

I've watched some Jimmy Broadbent streams as he got early access to the build.

Racing in the rain looks virtually impossible. I may sign back up for iRacing, lol.

Im surprised they never ported this to consoles as a free to play game with micro transactions.

Why would anybody pay the subscription on PC when they could just get it for free on console?

Anyway, iRacing knocked it out of the park with this. Was running the Nords all last night and was just in awe the whole time. The way the puddles were forming, the way the car was reacting, it was beautiful.

I was extremely worried about rain, but I'm glad to say it's not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. Cars with ABS and TC maxed out are beyond easy to control, and just made for some great racing. Open wheelers are obviously going to be more difficult, but in my short AI sessions it wasn't THAT bad, although one mistake and you are a passenger lol.

I'm glad they took their time with this and truly created something groundbreaking. More companies should take note of that

I just did an AI race with changing conditions at Road Atlanta in the GR86, I love full wet conditions, but man, I am bad at running a drying track. My league is going to do a 24 hour race (at 8x speed) there this weekend with a chance of rain, should be interesting. So much fun to drive though.

The SRX is great as well on ovals, and the Micro is going to be interesting.
