Yeah, as soon as you can turn consistent laps without spinning out in whatever car you're running, you can use the little quick-find session like av7 mentioned. Personally, I click the "Sessions" link below the series to show the full stats on the page and then choose a session that way. Old habits die hard, I guess.

If you can avoid wrecking every other lap, online practice is the best way to go. You can learn a lot from "ride-along" replays of the fast guys in a session, and find out just how far off the pace you are. It may shock you, because what feels fast in solo practice can be like half a second off the pace at a tiny 17 second track compared to some of the aliens on the service.

I run anything where I know people, but I suck at pretty much everything with a right turn in it.

I used to be an exclusive oval racer. That changed when I started running rFactor roadies. Some of my favorite tracks are Brands, Mid-Ohio and Zandvoort. I'm not a big fan of Super Speedways but really dig the Speedways like ATL. and Tex.

SS in iracing have been terrible since the start anyway so you're not missing out on anything there. Supposedly it'll be better with the tire model but who knows. Some over on the forums there seem to think the high line works but its really just the low line bobbling and screwing up their own momentum

Only thing oval I plan on running will be the new NW. Other than that, sticking to my conversion of road courses.

I know Nick likes to run the Nvidia Cup series at times, seems to be focused on ovals right now though.

Best advice, dont get caught up into licenses once you're in a series you really enjoy. SR wont be looming over your head once you settle down, takes away any burden and lets you just race instead for irating.

Anybody running the Indy 500 next week? Got a good fast set up? Mind sharing? I need some help.

The setups from Ryan Norton seem pretty good to me if you haven't tried them already. His qual set got me 94th out of 300+ in qualifying after only about 12 laps worth of practice. I also didn't adjust the tire pressures which should pick up a bit.

Cool thanks I'll give those a try. I just finished running a hosted race at Charlotte which is probably one of my worst tracks. I just despise the place, always had a problem being loose in 3&4 and couldn't fix it for anything. It was in the truck I started 18th but come away with the win. Only 1 caution very early on. I was using a set up I normally run at Chicago just adjusted the tire pressure a bit and was off like a rocket. Made a couple of 3 wide passes one spitting the middle between 1&2. So I'm a little pumped right now and I kind of like the place.

iRacing has some really good tracks, and with the technology they utilize to provide them to us they are the best in the sim racing community. What are some tracks that you guys would like to see iRacing scan and give to us?

                      I'd like to see

1 Five Flags Speedway Pensacola, FL (Home of the Snowball Derby)

                      2 Circuit Giles Villeneuve

                      3 Gresham Motorsports Park

4 Bowman Gray Stadium (The Mad House)

5 I know we'll never see it but I'd love to see Monaco

                      Lets see your list

My 5 tracks I would love to have in iRacing are:

                        1. Rocky Mountain Raceway, its a fast high banked 1/4 mile track

                        2. Salem Speedway, high banked 1/2 mile would be great to see how bumpy it laser scanned

                        3. Montreal, we need it now

                        4. Yas Marina Circuit, another great track

                        5. Motor Mile Speedway

                        ---------------------------------------------------------

Also iRacing is having a video contest this is my entry.

Just checked it out and yes that place is nice. I love the pit exit. Wish we could drive in and out of the garage area like on this video. Can on Arca sim racing.

finally started an account on iracing the other day. all i've been doing is testing the legends and street stock cars on south boston and lanier so far. it seems very fun and addicting but im TERRIBLE and need another day or 2 of testing before i even think of getting on a track with other cars. took me forever before i could make laps without spinning out. now that i'm not spinning out so much, all i can wonder is how slow my times are compared to other rookies.

is there anyway to compare my laps with other people, or should i just not worry about it and just hop into an open practice? i'm somewhat nervous about getting into other people's way, even if it is in practice!

Just get in an open practice, you will learn so much more by watching other people, and if you make a mistake in practice it isn't a big deal, unless you run into one of those people who thinks it is (just ignore them) practice is there for you to learn, so get in one, then you will be able to see how your times compare, and you can start picking up more speed.
