I'd love to get into this, but the cost overhead is just too much. I guess I could always do the 1 month membership and give it a go. If I like it, go from there, but seems expensive to get new stuff, and that's money I don't have these days.

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I see iRacing has a deal for 3 months for $15 with 7 cars (too bad no open wheels, though) and 10 tracks. I am a little tempted. I've always been against joining iRacing due to the cost (poor college student), but I have some cash now from summer jobs, so maybe I might take a dive just to see how it goes.
The trial is fine, but I am afraid I will spoil myself with iRacing and then all the other racing sims/games I have just won't cut it anymore, but I also won't be willing to dish out $8.xx/month...
I am also not sure if 10 tracks will suffice. The additional cars/tracks are so expensive...Last edited by superjames1992; 06-01-2013, 08:06 PM.Comment

I've spent over 400 dollars and I don't regret a single penny of it. Well, apart from maybe RichmondSupporting Leeds United, Colorado Rockies, Detroit Lions and the Colorado Avalanche!

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Alright, I did it. I actually found a deal for one month's price ($12) for three months use. I couldn't resist. $12 isn't a ton of money in the grand scheme of things. If I like it, great. If I don't, then it's not huge loss. Plus, when I think about how much money I have pumped into Microsoft Flight Simulator over the last few years (probably ~$400), I can certainly justify this given that I generally try to get out the wheel and race a few times per week. And it's summer and I have more free time now than I would have during my upcoming senior year at college.
Looking forward to it tonight. I love NR 2003 and participate in a couple NR 2003 leagues on the weekends off-and-on, but it would be nice to find a game where you can race relatively cleanly in public servers any time. If there's any such game to offer it, this seems like it would be the best chance.
I'm also interested in the road racing since I've not had the opportunity to do much in the way of multiplayer road racing.
I just have to remember about the damn auto-renewal and not let myself get screwed out of that if I decide to not renew.Last edited by superjames1992; 06-03-2013, 01:51 AM.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I just got my oval Class D License with a Safety Rating over 4.0. I am still a Rookie on road courses with a 3.51 Safety Rating, though that is due to the fact that I haven't raced as many races at road courses. I should be able to get that up over the next couple days to graduate to a Class D License, too.
Anyone have any recommendations for what to do next? I must admit that this game is pretty addicting and I really enjoy the engine, etc. It's nice that you can actually miss shifts in this game. I find the street stocks enjoyable to drive as I do the Mazda MX-5. The Legends aren't as fun, but they are fine. I don't think I'm going to shell out any money for any new cars/tracks just yet, but I am curious to hear what some of you all have done.
So far, I've won two oval races (my last two races at USA Speedway with Street Stocks) and one road course (Okayama, though I was "helped" because my two closest competitors managed to run themselves off the track).
I'm pretty evenly split with my interest in ovals and road courses.Last edited by superjames1992; 06-05-2013, 04:56 PM.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
I know that everyone has their own situation but so far, as I mentioned earlier, I have purchased the trucks and gen6 because that is what I will want to race going forward. I have also purchased a few tracks after looking to see the truck schedule I just chose the races that I wanted/would be able to run that I could transfer over to run the gen6 schedule. I purchased those all at once and was able to purchase over $100 in merchandise for $75 due to the 20% bulk bonus. This should also keep me busy through July where I can save some money up to do the same thing at the end of July. If you have the ability to tackle the purchases in portions that is the way to go instead of looking at all the material that you would have to buy. Just my opinion on the matter.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
My advise about buying items is to buy them in bulk as it was said before and buy what you might use in the future. When I moved to D Class, I raced all three of the cars and I find that the National Series fits me the best. However it's really what you want overall. The Legends are somewhat fun to race, but you have to keep on your toes.
I should be higher than I am, but I just don't have too much time to do it. The road racing is fun but I just can't find the speed even while running a good line. The oval racing is fun but one idiot can ruin the whole thing.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
If one were looking to add this what would be the best way to go about it? Setup wise? Don't need the very best but would like a good setup. ThanksComment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
You can always join a fixed series for a while and practice until you are comfortable with your own setups. Additionally you can go to the iracing forums and find setups as well that you can tweak to your style.Comment

Re: iRacing after 2+ years
Just to fill you guys in, I have made it to A-class on the oval side and am up to C on the road side. On the oval, I ended up buying the National Impala, the Indy Cars, and finally the Gen-6 Cup cars (which has been what I've been mostly running on ovals lately).
On the road side, I have not bought anything yet, though I leveled up to C by driving the Cadillac. Though I already own the car from Indy Road (the Dallara Indy Car), I am thinking about buying the new(ish) McLaren for my road car as the participation numbers for it look great and the car looks pretty fun to drive. We'll see, though. I suppose the Star Mazda is another possible choice.
Anyways, yesterday in the Mazda Cup at Okayama International Circuit, I had a great two-way battle (becoming three-way on the final lap) during the closing laps in the MX-5. It was great fun and some of the best racing I've ever had in sim racing.
