The new build for S3 2014 looks awesome. All kinds of new goodies, including NTMv5 on the cup car, traction control on the GTs, COTA, etc.

Been having a bash with the BMW getting ready for the first round of the GT3 at Watkins next week.

I do like this tyre model so far, it feels easier to catch the car which allows you to attack a little bit more while still feeling under control.

COTA is nicely done too from what I can see.

Well, iRacing sent out a coupon for 3 months for $12, and that to go with some of the updates in this build got me to sign up again. Tried the DP at Daytona as I saw it had been completely redone, and my first lap out of the pits... well... It ended as you see below.

The curbs at COTA are fun. I've gotten 10 feet of air going over them at times in the BMW, LMAO.

I watched some of your race at Richmond last night, James. And by some, I mean about 10 laps because you guys couldn't stay green. I know the COT at Richmond is a handful, but oof that was ugly.

Yeah, it was awful. 19 cautions for nearly 100 laps. There was a wreck around 1/3rd through that occurred in front of me that gave me 4+ minutes of optional and 40+ seconds of required. There were so many cautions that I was able to get it totally fixed (though the car was still lacking top-end speed) and got my three laps back to finish last on the lead lap in 18th place. I can't say that was particularly fun...

On the positive side, there were some fun meltdowns to listen to over the in-race chat/radio.

I didn't get to the race but drove about 15 laps in practice and that fixed setup was tough to drive. Wow.

Is anyone going to be racing in the Coca-Cola 600 or the Indy 500? I can't run the Indy 500 as I have to work Friday and Saturday, but I should be able to do the full 400-lap NiS fixed Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte on Thursday night. I'd like to run the open race, too, but that's on Wednesday night and I'll be watching basketball then.

Prior to tonight, I was seriously thinking about trying to run Indy on Friday night. But after seeing how terrible I am at driving the DW12, I'm not sure 4 days is enough time for me to get comfortable around that place with nobody else on the track, much less 32 other cars.

Suppose I could give the 600 a shot, but I doubt my driving skills will hold up around Charlotte either.

Yeah, the DW12 is twitchy. You can basically run it flat-out, but one little mistake and you're in the wall and your race is over.

Charlotte is going to be tough with 400 laps. It's going to be as much of an endurance race as anything.

Anyways, I recorded an A Fixed race I ran on Monday at Charlotte. I forgot to take out the cautions, but I don't feel like uploading it all again (takes hours...). I left in the iRacing stuff so that the position and lap times could be seen. I have not uploaded a full iRacing race before, but it was a good one with a lot of passing and an exciting finish.

                              Great race, James.

Early in the video I was sitting here thinking "looks like Charlotte isn't as slippery off the turns like Richmond and Kansas were (how the RR would just slide around at times with no warning)" and not even 15 seconds later, a car in front of you slides into the infield off turn 4.

At times, the car feels really on a rail at Charlotte (especially when you're in the groove), but the exits are difficult. In that A fixed race, turn 4 was the main culprit, but the weather (mainly the wind) was different in the NiS Fixed Coke 600 and turn 4 became tight as hell while turn 2 turned into a real hard one to exit from.

Anyways, I ran the NiS Fixed Coke 600 last Thursday night and it went great. I was in the 2nd split and the field began thinning out as the race went along. I think we had 13 cautions in the first 210 laps and only one afterwards. Late in the race, we had gone two full fuel runs without a caution when I inherited the lead after the two guys in front of me got pit road speeding penalties. I thought I had the race in the bag (and I did if there was no more cautions) as I had a 15-second lead with 40 to go... then a caution came out. A came in and got out of pit road first, but the guys 15 seconds back had a better short-run car than I did and I started caving under pressure. I extended my advantage to a little over a second at one point after the restart, but they slowly started reeling me in and all of a sudden the car felt horribly loose (I must have been pushing too much). I was passed by two cars with around 10 to go and though I never let them get much ahead of me after they passed me, I was also unable to get back by and that was that. I'm very happy with 3rd place, but it was frustrating to not be able to get the victory (something that hardly ever happens for me, haha).

I had 1 INC since I decided to clip the grass in the quadoval under caution for no reason. It was kind of hilarious, actually, to run a 400-lap race completely clean except for an idiotic lapse like that.

Here's the results, though I'm not sure whether you can see them if you're not an iRacing member:

Lance, the guy that finished in 5th, had the fastest car, but he hit the wall around lap 250, which killed the handling of his car.

It was fun to do a full-length race for once, though I can definitely say I wouldn't want to do that every week...
