    Re: iRacing after 2+ years

My setup worked fine but it just wasn't good long enough. I was having to pit at around 30 laps and I wish I had held out just a few more late in the race. I wound up getting caught 2 laps down which put me near a guy which gave me a 4x for some minor contact. Finished 12th.

Turns out it was a miscalculation on my part as I could have gone those few extra laps and would have been fine. That's what happens when you lose your spotter/crew chief for a day!

Has anyone heard if the next season's build will include the analog/digital gauges for the Nascar stockcars?

They do it twice a year (August and Black Friday), and I got 2 e-mails last year after my short memberships expired for half off a year. Sign up for a month and see what you get maybe?

DX11 might have me looking at 144 Hz monitors. I have max settings with extra mirrors and what not and with the frames limited to 145 and this thing rarely if ever drops below it at Phoenix in a practice right now. Maybe an end of the season present this fall... I was getting dips before.

Seems to be better for me as well.

This week is going to be a nightmare. Watching my split tonight and they've already had 7 cautions by lap 50, and easily 14 around 110. I'd hate to do it, but purposely riding around for the entire race sounds like the best solution. Even then, won't be good enough for a top 10.

I was feeling really horrible earlier about my setup after jumping into a practice. Saw the times tonight and I will be fine, in fact the split I would have been in, I would of had the fastest time.

Teaches me to hop into a practice to check times before seeing them on the Wednesday race. I wasted so much time yesterday trying to find speed and just messing up the car.

Like you said, it might not matter based on the amount of cautions. My car is fast and stable, I doubt everyone has their car setup like that.

EDIT: I just looked at the cautions from my split. A run of about 20 laps and a run of about 10 laps were the longest, other than that it was 2-4 laps and then a caution. This race is going to be a bloodbath.

Yea, I could take the fixed setup if my split goes like that one finished. 20 total cautions. Longest run was maybe 15-20 laps. All I have to do is stay in the 29's and 30's to feel comfortable and you won't get lapped without going a long run, and no one can. My problem is the fixed setup I wreck and would be causing those cautions. It is bad loose out of 4, loose if you cut the dogleg, loose if you don't let off when not cutting, tends to be tight-ish out of 2, but it gets so tight that you get loose cranking the wheel sometimes. I'll work on something tonight to see if I can't balance that out and do what I hate doing, intentionally and always stay in the back. I did it at Daytona because that's an actual strategy; I let everyone else come to me and I was top 5 at halfway. I did it at Atlanta very early, but started racing maybe 20 laps in. Vegas, I held back a bit longer, but still raced 75%.

People wreck left and right here and it just doesn't make sense to get caught up in it. I'm already skipping 6 races with the short tracks and road courses so I don't want to skip this one in the standings, but you're just asking for it. I'm hoping my setup I feel comfortable with over 30-40 laps so I can push it early because I know I'll get cautions, and maybe qualify high up in the field so I can avoid it, but that won't even matter. 1st and 2nd got into an accident with 3 to go last night. Granted 2nd place was probably going for the win, dove underneath and the leader gave no room, so it was an actual racing accident versus someone just losing it in the turns. I'm around an A 4.5 so incidents won't kill me if I can finish much of the race, but I'm finally about to break through that 1600 iRating ceiling and would hate to finish 25th or worse getting caught up in something unavoidable here and go back to 1500 or so and start all over. Auto Club is a track I like driving at least so I'm looking forward to going there.

Well, I have practiced all week on my setup. I have it where I really like it and it is pretty balanced. It's not the fastest but it's stable. I'm looking forward to this race but I'm kinda worried it will be hampered by all the cautions. Oh well, next week should be a lot better.

Well I finished 3rd. It was a bad race with 16 cautions but I had a good run earlier in the race. If I would have been able to get a good green flag run I think I would have won the race. However, I am now sitting in 31st place in my division having only run half the races, so I am pretty excited about that. I also thing California will be a lot easier track to setup for this week.

I'm going to leave you here with a screenshot I took from my race.

I'll go ahead and warn you that the low downforce package that came out with this build may have made California a lot harder. It drives far different than what I tested a few weeks ago, at least with the fixed setup. It is very easy to lose it at the moment, but I'm hoping a setup can correct that.
