      Re: SHIFT 2 Questions/Impressions

      IGN has released its review:

      IGN gave Shift 2 a 8.5 out of 10.

Just read the review. Sounds promising, but clearly states that this is not a true sim. Game is out to scare you is the general vibe I got from the review. I'm still in debate, but will most likely pick this game up. Might wait for the NASCAR The Game 2011 review to come out and decide which to get...or both.

I got the game last night, I've got about 5 hours into it. Personally I'm disappointed with the game. Yes, it feels better then the first one, but it's a huge let down from all the videos that were shown. Huge difference in the way the game looked in the video's and the way it looks running. Shift 1 actually looks better. I can't recommend buying this game at full price, it's not a big enough of an improvement over the first shift in my opinion. They said this game would compete with GT5, Ha, no way, GT5 destroy's this game in every area.

My recommendation, save your money for Dirt 3 or get the Nascar game. I wish had picked up Nascar instead.

Anyone having an issue with the voice part of the movies playing at an extremely low volume? I changed the settings where voice should be as high as it can go and everything else is as low as it will go and still can't hear the guy.

got the game this morning....and i must say that the wait was worth it. this game is amazing IMO. i love the car details, the photo gallaries, how each car handles different, and how you can customize almost every aspect of your car. the new helmet view is sick!!! if i could rate this game i would give it a 10 just because i can't find anything wrong with the game and i've played it non-stop since 10am. i don't want to offend anyone, but this game blows GT5 away! (GT5 is great too)

I feel sorry for the people that rely on people they don't know to make decisions for them. Try the game yourself and decide if you want it. It's what adults do.

Yes that is what adults (with money) do. Some of us can't afford to try every game for ourselves, so impression threads like these and reviews help us decide how to spend our hard earned money.

                      Re: SHIFT 2 Questions/Impressions

Let me clarify a bit. I'm not saying it's a bad game. I loved Shift 1 , I played it almost daily right up until last night. Shift 2 in my opinion is more like Shift 1.2 , meaning, take Shift 1, tone down the wonky car physics, add some new tracks, cars, and a helmet cam, and bingo that is what Shift 2 is. It's a good, fun racing game, but for $60.00 I can't recommend it, if I had never played Shift 1, then I'd probably be ok with the purchase. Having played Shift 1 and really enjoying it, I feel a bit ripped off by Shift 2, they just didn't improve the game enough.

As far as which is better, Shift 2 or GT5 it's all a matter of what you like, I admit I'm a graphic's whore so that game is a thing of beauty to me. .

I'm playing the 360 version of Shift 2 if that makes any difference.

Not always that easy. My game purchase is based upon the general consensus of the group and reviews. You usually get an overall thumps up, avoid it or in between. Some of us are limited financially and to run out and buy a game for $60 bucks a pop only to find out you don't like it can be maddening because you know it's already lost face value. I applaud those who buy first day purchases and give us good solid reviews. Plus reviews indicate what could be game killers for some people (i.e. 1 year career mode, damage model is NTG 2011).

As for Shift 2 or Nascar 2011, I'll keep reading reviews of people I've never met.

No, I just think people do not know the difference between a true sim, and one that is pseudo arcade, and gets wow'ed by that fluff.

At least for people looking for sim racing impressions in general that is.

I personally like both styles... Love the sim engine in GT5, and love the arcade element of Grid. But with all this smack talk these developers did, it is not too shocking that the game is barely an upgrade over the first. Especially with it coming out so soon. Games take time to develop, and would take longer than it did for substantial upgrades over the first game. Thus I know why there was not much info about this game before it hit, and it was announced only a few months before it hit, rather than being a while in progress of announcements.

I will wait for http://insidesimracing.tv/ review... those guys know their ****.

My first impression was...oh lawd! The graphics! The heck is THIS?!
I agree with JMD,Shift 1 looked better. Quite frankly I think it looks...well terrible is too harsh and below average/sub-par isn't harsh enough. Inadequate perhaps woud be the right word. IGN are out of their minds giving this a 9 for graphics. 6 at best. They must've got the game in the videos because the game I rented in the store isn't it.

I've only done the test race but had to do it 4 times. It seems it's decided in the first corner. I came out in 3rd the first 3 and didn't gain or lose a single inch for the rest of the race. Came out in 1st the last time and they never caught up.

After browsing around, watching videos, and reading impressions, this looks like a no buy for me. I truly had high hopes for this one.
