Re: SHIFT 2 Questions/Impressions
My first impression was...oh lawd! The graphics! The heck is THIS?!
I agree with JMD,Shift 1 looked better. Quite frankly I think it looks...well terrible is too harsh and below average/sub-par isn't harsh enough. Inadequate perhaps woud be the right word. IGN are out of their minds giving this a 9 for graphics. 6 at best. They must've got the game in the videos because the game I rented in the store isn't it.

Re: SHIFT 2 Questions/Impressions
I guess the console versions must look bad, but the PC version is a beast, graphically better than any racing game I've see thus far. Forza, GT5, etc.
It's visually stunning!Comment

Re: SHIFT 2 Questions/Impressions
Been playing for about 5 hours now. I absolutely love it. The biggest compliment I can say is, you can easily tell this game was made by folks who've done it before. Up till now I thought only Codemaster's had AI that isn't perfect, but damn, trailing an AI driver who is kicking your ***, then seeing him mess up a corner and spin out is awesome.Comment

Re: SHIFT 2 Questions/Impressions
I learned today that i am a sim racer.. lol. I am just not digging this game at all. Forza 3 got it right and I'm not sure why I ever traded that one in.. I wish i had more patience with this game. I mean I'm already to level 5 (out of 16) (in an hour) and the car physics are just not my cup o tea. I don't understand why my slow FWD VW with upgraded suspension and tires is fishtailing in every turn.. It's funny, b/c it's the same car I started with in Forza 3 and it's a night & day difference in handling.
The helmet cam is nice but I never really race in that view much.. It's fun but I'm just fastest when I can see the car.. The customizations (love the body kits) & liveries are sweet. The graphics (mainly the cars) aren't revolutionary or anything but they're not bad either. The tracks are really beautiful and the lighting is stellar.
Back to some bad stuff, some of the sounds in the game are just bad.. hitting other cars sounded terrible. Load times when looking at cars to buy and main screen are a bit much. Some animations look really bad when you are racing in the 'behind the bumper' view. I skimmed a couple side barriers and it was comical how my car reacted. I think the game is designed and plays best from in the cockpit.
I don't know, I usually don't write much for reviews, but I just wanted people to know that if you love Forza 3 or GT5, then you probably won't like this one. I'm sure there's some fun to be had here, but all that junk about them making this a Sim game were a joke. It's very similar to Shift 1 IMO, which is great for some people.. just not me. Have fun fellas. Man, I'm gonna take a beating on trade in.Last edited by josef; 03-29-2011, 07:29 PM.PSN: jaydazzle

Re: SHIFT 2 Questions/Impressions
I would like to make a case that I have THE best wife on all of O.S. A week ago, I jokingly texted my wife and said, you should get me a "i love you gift" and get me Nascar 2011. Well, low and behold, she did. Before she bought it, I was back and forth on what I wanted between it and Shift 2. Well, today she went to pick up Nascar, and when I met her at the gym, (she leaves before I do because she does Zumba classes and I just lift), she said I am leaving it in your car. I go out to my car when I was done working out, and there it sit in my front seat, Nascar 2011 AND NFS Shift 2. I got some serious gaming to do. Be jealous, be very jealous.Virginia Tech Hokies NCAA 2011 Dynasty Thread :

Re: SHIFT 2 Questions/Impressions
No, I just think people do not know the difference between a true sim, and one that is pseudo arcade, and gets wow'ed by that fluff.
At least for people looking for sim racing impressions in general that is.
I personally like both styles... Love the sim engine in GT5, and love the arcade element of Grid. But with all this smack talk these developers did, it is not too shocking that the game is barely an upgrade over the first. Especially with it coming out so soon. Games take time to develop, and would take longer than it did for substantial upgrades over the first game. Thus I know why there was not much info about this game before it hit, and it was announced only a few months before it hit, rather than being a while in progress of announcements.
I will wait for http://insidesimracing.tv/ review... those guys know their ****.
For me, Shift 2, as the first game, are the direction I had wished Bizarre Creations had gone with PGR after PGR2. I felt like PGR 3 and 4 were just kind of lame. Shift has found that perfect balance for me, in that it pretnds to be sim, and forces the user to make strategic decisions, but it emphasizes visceral fun driving over accuracy.
I expect a lot of people will like it. I expect a lot of Sony guys to defend their turf. I don't care what the devs or PR guys have said. The game is out now, and is what it is. And for me, it is just more Shift done better. If it was GT or Forza, I wouldn't be interested.Comment

Re: SHIFT 2 Questions/Impressions
I would say that there were some pretty big clues in last hew weeks that this was not going to be a Forza or GT, f you were following some hand-on previews. I know that I became more comfortable as I saw the latest stuff that it was going to emphasize visceral experience over sim.Comment

Re: Shift 2 Unleashed Impressions
When the fact is, their main point stands. Creating a game with 1000 cars leads to tedium. They chose a path that is more fun. But the game is not a racing version of Pokemon. It's about driving.
They think their driving model is better. I couldn't really tell you one way or another. But I can say the Shift is more fun to play for me.
But I guess I have some rocks to kick.Comment
