Re: Nascar 11 Custom Car Thread
Well to be honest, it was 3 hours with just making the base and placing the already made custom decals. As well as coloring the numbers.
With all the custom logo hours: Jordan, Pepsi, Autozone, Gatorade, Miller, headlights/taillights and chevy bowtie... there is probably a good 10-12 hours of work on the car that has been spread out over time.
As far as making both sides uniform it is very tedious and can be very frustrating. If there was a way to select, copy, and move multiple layers it would be alot easier.
What I do is make one complete side first than copy each individual layer over to the other side. Except when I copy the layers to put on the other side I move those layers to be above all the layers on the other side. That way it is much easier to keep track of what shape is what. Otherwise it just becomes a confusing mess. It also takes alot of eyeing up by moving the camera from side to side and making small adjustments to make sure it is nearly identical.
Another good reference point is that the layers for the base scheme is usually the reverse on the other side. So when you copy a layer and place it unlock the scale and check what the X Y numbers are on the scale. Usually only one axis needs to be moved so check the numbers.
Ex. X is 1.77.
For the other side X will be -1.77.
Just be aware skewed shapes dont reverse correctly. So you'll have to recreate them as I did for some of the curves on the Jordan XI car. Took more eyeing up than Id like to admit!
Hope that helps!Comment

I guess if I wanted to do some cool body length decals one other helpful thing might be to run a single stripe lengthwise down the sides of the car to help line stuff up. Whaddya think? Then just remove the 'baseline' once the work is complete.GO 'HAWKS!
