    F1 2012: 360 or PS3? Quick show of hands

Hi OS, quick question, wondering if there is a preferred platform for this game (excluding PC at the moment). I have F1 2010 for the 360 but never really got into the game, just out of sheer lack of time. Wondering if Operationsports leans more towards the 360 or PS3 versions of the game over the past two seasons?

    Thanks-in-advance,

I prefer racing on the 360 as the controller is better suited for racing since I don't use a wheel, IMO.

PS3 users were saying that the 2012 demo is looking greatly improved over 2011 graphically in the demo thread.

i would say pc if u have one choice but i dont play games on my pc...thats just what i heard from the community as far as graphics go. but btwn xbox & ps3 i would have to def say the 360. just for the graphics alone i can promise u that most (or all) games which come out on both platforms r created on the xbox then ported to the ps3. many gamers will agree w me that just based solely on graphics alone, usually the xbox graphics r a tad enhanced. it happ to me last year w madden when i didnt know this & i bought for the ps3 (i have both). it was lacking in so many areas graphically that i returned it for the 360 version.....i will never go back now! actually I'm even thinking of selling my ps3 since i only get it for mlb the show which is my fav game. im playing video games less & less these days so im considering on putting it on craigslist or ebay if i get decent $ for it....hope this helped!

I only have a PS3. I was very disappointed with this game graphically last year. A patch helped a bit, but I was shocked at how horrible it looked next to screen shots of the 360 version. PC versions will always look superior graphically for obvious reasons. I hope the other poster is right about the demo looking better than last year's retail version. I'm waiting for it to download as I write this.

I race on local asphalt and dirt tracks back home in Arizona in the summer months and I can tell you F1 2012 is the real deal! I dont watch it on tv but the game is outstanding! If only the company that does NASCAR games now took that much time and put it into the game then id be happy....Oh and 360 is better

The wife picked it up for me for the 360 during one of her crazy Mid-Night Walmart runs.

I have no gameplay issues at all on the 360.

My only issue is what was removed from the game. You can't race a season as your favorite driver (No GP Mode) and there is only 1 practice session during a full GP weeked. Other than that it's the best F1 so far.

Hopefully we can get a league going here that will last.

I also read that the time-scaled tire wear model was removed. Big mistake, if true. I loved having to manage realistic tire wear in F1 2011, even in shorter races.

Re: F1 2012: 360 or PS3? Quick show of hands

I'm not a PC racing purist who sneers at console titles. I enjoy them, too.

But Codemasters really screwed up with F1 2012 for PC and console platforms. So many good, realistic features from the first two editions of the game were omitted, for no apparent good reason.

                          1. There's only one free practice session per race. Unrealistic, especially if the weather changes during the weekend.

                          2. No Season mode. You can't pick your favorite driver and complete an entire F1 season. You must instead participate in a new Career mode. Why not give players both options?

                          3. Poor braking model. F1 cars have the most powerful, carbon-fiber brakes of any vehicles in the world. F1 2011 simulated that very, very well. The braking distances inexplicably have been lengthened quite a bit in the F1 2012 demo. Foolish.

                          4. No scalable tire wear. This is a game-killer for me, and the main reason why I will not buy this game for any platform. Past editions of the franchise included tire wear even in shorter-distance races. This created incredible realism and plenty of strategic options that real F1 drivers and pit-wall strategists face every race. It was so much fun to try and guess when friends were going to pit in shorter on Xbox Live, adding another vital layer of strategy and fun. But Codemasters inexplicably has removed tire wear scaling from shorter-distance races in F1 2012.

Codemasters clearly is confused with the development direction of this franchise. They know F1 fans don't want an arcade game, but they also know pure sims don't sell on consoles.

So instead of offering something for everyone, Codemasters has made some really poor development decisions that have resulted in a muddled mess of a game that resides somewhere in sim racing purgatory.

That's very disappointing for a franchise that showed so much promise in 2010 and 2011.

                          F1 2012 resembles Felipe Massa's F1 career -- heading downhill fast.

                            LOL @ Felipe Massa comment!!

I opted to pick-up 2011 for the PS3, as I also got a neat racing style controller (See the HK5) for more analogue control and input. I am enjoying the game so far and will hold out to see if 2012 is improved via mods. If so I might pick up the PC version after I upgrade my PC to meet the specs.

If 2012 is proving to be a let-down I won't be in a hurry to throw down $60.

                            Thanks guys!!
