No,the game is not centered around kudos. Thats just one aspect of the game. You can choose to ignore that aspect if you are not that interested in it. Powersliding through turns gives you the most points, but taking the correct lines will always get you the fastest time. So it's really up to you how you wanna play, but don't get the idea that PGR2 is less of a racer because of the kudos system.

The kudos system makes you want to run a clean race, not 'rail-ride' to the finish line. Its an incentive to drive correctly, along with giving you rewards for doing so.

Absolutely. PGR 2 requires just as much precision -- if not more -- than a racing game with a damage model. The damage is cosmetic in PGR 2, but you still pay big-time if you play Harvey Wallbanger all race.

I have to echo these sentiments. The only real cheat in the game that I use but mostly it's luck is to take a very steep angle so I can plow into the cars and hopefully get a few turned backwards. It doesn't always work and I probably wouldn't try that tactic late in a long race but sometime out of the gate into the first turn you can always just reset it.

Still one little bump into the rail and this game and three of four cars pass you up.

This is not 100% true. In the cone challenges running through all the cones WILL NOT get you enough kudos to pass the race. This is the one aspect of the game that I detest. You must make yourself powerslide needlessly between the cones just so you can pass the race because a certain number of kudos are required. They should make it so going through all the cone gates is enough to pass the races, and then if you want more kudos then you can go for it.

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Yes it will. You have to string moves together to keep your kudos adding up, then at a certain point the kudos stash will begin to grow at a much faster rate which will eventually lead to enough kudos to pass a cone challenge. But you cannot hit a cone or rail, or else you'll lose the kudos increasing in your stash, taking away a lot of potential kudos you would have had if you had drove cleanly. The your kudos stash will start over, making it almost impossible to get a Gold medal by the time you finish your run. And Platinum? Forget about it! You might as well restart your run immediately after making the mistake.

Plus remember this: It's much better to take it slow and risk to allow the 2-second interval to elapse than to go too fast and risk to hit a cone or the rail. Doing the former will at least add the stash of kudos you've racked up by performing combos to your totals. Doing the latter won't.

And you do not have to powerslide to keep the combo going. You can do the alternative by taking a shorter route around a corner and earn "Good Line" kudos to keep the kudos combo string alive.

      </font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font><hr />
But to say the race is not kudos based is wrong. Look at how the scoreboards show the rankings. It's all in how many kudos you get and not whether or not you had the best time.

PGR2 is the best racing game ever made up to this point in my honest opinion. I cant say the same about NFS Underground. To the guys talking about incentives to race cleanly, my biggest incentive is not kudos, but to watch the replay of my race and see a beautiful porsche or ferrari pull off stunning moves at top speeds throughtout a whole race. The graphics in this game are a visual feast.

Yes, cone challenges emphasize on achieving high scores, but that is ONE of about 6 different modes. That is why I said that racing for points is just one aspect of the game.

I'd also like to point out that you are not required to pass the cone challenges on the higher difficulty levels(which will more than likely require alot PWS'ing to rack up points) to progress through the game if you don't want to. You can simply breeze by with bronze or steel medals if the cone challenges aren't exactly your cup of tea.

Kruza is absolutely right. You can go through every cone and reach the Kudos goal -- at least at Gold and under -- without sliding. But you sure as hell better not hit a rail or cone, or you'll lose your stash.

Another reason you're passing through every cone without sliding and failing to reach the goal is because you're too slow. The time bonus adds Kudos, too.

There's a fine balance between precision and speed in the Cone Challenge, one of the reasons I like it.
