    Re: PGR2 or NFS underground?

As someone who owns both of them and loves both of them, I can honestly say that I've been playing NFSU more. They are both excellent games, but they are also very different games. PGR centers around Kudos and a lot of different race types. There are races and then there are timed laps and cone challenges. I think the thing that bugs me the most about PGR2 is that even in the cone challenges you have to do a lot of needless power sliding to build up enough kudos to pass the challenge. So more often than not, you find yourself powersliding for the hell of it. I really like PGR2, but some of the needless tire spinning just gets monotonous to me.

NFSU is far from perfect and anyone will immediately notice the slowdown in framerate, but it doesn't cripple the game. If you're able to overlook the slowdown, you will experience the best sense of speed in any racing game. Even though the tracks are very repetitive, it's a great feeling racing through the streets of the various cities.

Both games are excellent and if you can afford both, buy both. If you can only get one, I can't help you because I wouldn't be without either one of them.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

No,the game is not centered around kudos. Thats just one aspect of the game. You can choose to ignore that aspect if you are not that interested in it. Powersliding through turns gives you the most points, but taking the correct lines will always get you the fastest time. So it's really up to you how you wanna play, but don't get the idea that PGR2 is less of a racer because of the kudos system.

The kudos system makes you want to run a clean race, not 'rail-ride' to the finish line. Its an incentive to drive correctly, along with giving you rewards for doing so.

Absolutely. PGR 2 requires just as much precision -- if not more -- than a racing game with a damage model. The damage is cosmetic in PGR 2, but you still pay big-time if you play Harvey Wallbanger all race.

This is not 100% true. In the cone challenges running through all the cones WILL NOT get you enough kudos to pass the race. This is the one aspect of the game that I detest. You must make yourself powerslide needlessly between the cones just so you can pass the race because a certain number of kudos are required. They should make it so going through all the cone gates is enough to pass the races, and then if you want more kudos then you can go for it.

But to say the race is not kudos based is wrong. Look at how the scoreboards show the rankings. It's all in how many kudos you get and not whether or not you had the best time.

It's the one thing about an otherwise fantastic game that I don't like.

I have to echo these sentiments. The only real cheat in the game that I use but mostly it's luck is to take a very steep angle so I can plow into the cars and hopefully get a few turned backwards. It doesn't always work and I probably wouldn't try that tactic late in a long race but sometime out of the gate into the first turn you can always just reset it.

Still one little bump into the rail and this game and three of four cars pass you up.
