    Re: GRID 2 impressions

Played the Multiplayer for over an hour. Pretty addicting. I will say if you are more of a "sim" player, you may not like this game so much, lol.

There are plenty of people out there that are just trying to wreck you, but I guess that goes for a lot of racing games.

The game modes are varied that is for sure. There are checkpoint type of races, endurance races, time trials, one on one showdowns, etc.

I was looking for a racing game that is a hybrid between arcade and sim and this game scratches that itch. Good fun, that requires some skill. Again, if you are looking for a GT/Forza clone this probably isn't for you.

Sounds like the first Grid, so I'm definitely looking forward to it. Upset Amazon didn't have release day shipping.

Tried a few laps both offline and online. Firstly, this is very arcadey to me. Not a bad thing but I would have loved some more weight on these cars. Even the heavier muscle cars need feather touch breaking in order to get in to corners without skidding out of control.

The online is basically destruction derby with everyone just ramming you and possibly the quickest way to get a stroke but boy does it all look so pretty!

That NSX is ridiculously out of control. Here's some more pics to show off nighttime with a couple to show damage modeling for whoever asked. It's just paint scrapes in this case:

Paint chips flying off the cars...

and the scraped up other side...

I was wondering what the little "!" points stood for in the multiplayer. Maybe most of you already know.

Evidently, the little "!" points help in matchmaking. That is good to hear.

Just to confirm what others have said, it's the impact rating system.

Basically once the game has accessed how you drive it will then assign a rating to you, green is for clean racing, red is for rough.

The matchmaking system will then look at placing you in games with players of the same impact rating as yourself. This means that if you like clean racing you can avoid those who like the rough stuff and vice versa.

                    Re: GRID 2 impressions

Grid 2 leans more to the arcade side of racing with a touch of simulation. It isn't Forza or Gran Turismo and it isn't Need for Speed, it sits in the middle. Codemasters created a special True Driving model that has no assist options that you can set like in the past games. They wanted to simplify the actual driving experience so that you could really feel the difference in driving various cars. Most of the forums have negative feedback about this saying the game is casual and not a simulation. I partially agree, the driving is fun and is more accessible, but you still have to use good driving principles or you will likely crash. The casual side for me is in the collisions, I'm able to crash into barriers and other cars like a Need for Speed game and still zoom around the track. There is some mechanical damage that you can inflict, I had one instance where I had to drive with the wheel turned to the left to keep the car straight, but for the most part you can fly around the track and not care who or what you hit. I played the first Grid the week prior and I can notice the difference between the driving models. I wish the driving model was somewhere between the two games, Grid was too rigid and Grid 2 is too relaxed.

The single and multi-player are distinct experiences so you have to unlock cars separately which is a bummer. I've played about 20 online matches and they've been really fun. There have been a couple of times it was a crashfest, but for the most part people drove realistically. They have a ton of different race types to keep the game interesting. I was in a lobby of 12 people, some events we all raced together and it others it was me vs one other racer. If a racer is backing up or going the wrong way it will make that car a ghost so that they can't grief the other racers.

I'm using the bonnet cam which is fine and does make it easier to see the track. The graphics look great and they have a lot of atmospheric additions to the track. While racing in California through a winding road though a forest leaves will float across the road, or a squirrel will scamper across. Each of the 14 locations is very detailed and some take place in cites so you can be racing in downtown Chicago under the train tracks, the shadows look awesome. In single player you have 5 flashbacks(rewinds) per race, it works basically the same as in the previous racing games.

I did find a "bug", if I alt-tab out of the game then back, the game sets the controls to the keyboard settings so my wheel stopped working.

Here it is from GTPlanet from an employee at Codemasters:

So... was speaking to VYPA-SQUAD_Ace(me) earlier and he asked me what the coloured icons (impact rating) mean in multiplayer. He also mentioned that a few of you guys where unsure, so here it is:

Impact Rating system – white is best/cleanest, and then goes through green, yellow (neutral – where each player starts), orange, and red.

Yah they removed the dash cam the hardcore 5% use and the assists the other 95% use so everyone's pissed.

So what do you think TCrouch, really on the fence with this one, really seeing a lot of mixed reviews. My heart is saying go for it,but my wallet is saying ,is it really that much better than grid?
