Re: NASCAR THE GAME 2013 set for PC

Wow, glad I checked this forum. Color me in for this. I haven't payed any attention to the console version of this game because I have been on the pc mostly for the last year. Has the console version been well received?

    Steam sounds good to me.

The console version while pretty fun, still has some things that need worked out - they are heading in the right direction though. We race the console version on Thursday nights here, and the one consistent thing that comes up pretty much on a weekly basis is the amount of fun it is to race and the how well the driving model is done.

The nice thing about the PC version is that they have really addressed a lot the issues that held the console version back a bit. They are also very open to the idea of having issues reported to them and working on them asap. So many cool things I want to say, but just can't right now -

They will be releasing the pre-purchase beta very soon, which gives you the right to play the beta build now and report bugs back directly to the developers, and also will entitle you to the final version when it's released.

NASCAR 13 is now live on Steam to pre-purchase. Meaning you can play the beta now, submit feedback and will have the full title when it comes out -

Will need to really dig in tonight, because even though I set draw distance to Ultra and cranked up everything I could, my view had jaggies and all sorts of nastiness in it. Maybe a driver issue, and when I get more time, I'll check it out this evening.

Making this full size shows the weirdness:

It runs fine, just looks hokey. Will have to dig into settings tonight when I'm not already on-track, I'm sure a lot of stuff is locked once you are.

Even in beta does it appear and feel improved, even if slightly, over the console version?

I would say yes, even in beta. Did a 30% race at Charlotte and while the AI struggled to get off the line(which has been reported) there was no sign at all of slow down in the corner what so ever. I have not seen anything weird in the pits yet either. They are really working on improving the AI, that's why this beta period is so important.

You now have way more options for race lengths than what was in the console version. I have noticed the AI intelligence has been worked on, as I have seen instances where they just race cleaner and smarter than what we saw on the console.

Re: NASCAR THE GAME 2013 set for PC

I've raced 2 short races with a 360 controller(didn't feel like hooking my steering wheel right now) so far. first race was just a 8 lap race at Daytona on medium difficulty. I think I won by 25 seconds. Medium is definitely too easy for me. I can't even talk about drafting as I just pulled away.

2nd race was at Texas on Hard difficulty. Qualified 36th, fell back to 39th at the start due to having to check up behind Casey Mears. I managed to fight back to finish 26th in a 16 lap race about 10 seconds behind the leader.

I never played this game on console, so I can't compare it to that. The AI in the Texas race seemed pretty good for a racing AI. They don't seem to "ride on rails" and they know when you have a run on them on the outside and will let you go sometimes on the straights.

I need to hook up the wheel and see how it feels, but the controller seem alright. didn't have any real issues with it during racing. the game did stop recognizing the controller when I was messing around in the setups though. had to restart the game to fix that. Also never had any engine sound during the Texas race. It was there in qualifying, but no engine sound in the race, spotter was still there though.

FWIW, the Texas race was after the update was just applied.

Don't even bother with medium AI, bro. As you saw, it's like that everywhere.

                          Overall, my feeling was this:

Medium is good for short 5% races where I don't qualify and instead plow through the field. It's a fun way to play from the back and work on race lines and anticipating traffic, nothing more.

Hard is good for races where you use the default setups with assists off.

Legend is good for when you really want to dial your own setups in and work on being as fast as possible.

So I'd go with Hard and forget about the difficulty for a while until you start really setup tinkering.

Any word yet if there will be the ability to start in the lower ranks and work your way up? The removal of that Game Mode is the reason 06 is the last NASCAR game I bought.

oh I know what you mean on medium. I qualified 3 seconds faster than 2nd place at Daytona and that was with me being all over the track as I'm not used to racing games on PC with a controller. I only tried it to get a feel for game and figured that wouldn't let the AI from running ramming me.

The Texas race was much better with the hard difficulty. next I'll try to get rid of some of the assists that are on by default. I basically just wanted to try the game with default setting for the most part.
