Re: Anyone have Colin Mcrae 4 yet?

    Good comments. ^

The one thing I have notice about CMR4, while the graphics are much improved and the course design is probably the best so far for a Colin game, the scenery doesn't seem to mix it up as much. Some countries are nice, like Japan, but most of them just don't seem to have the variety of roadside scenery I am used to - be it parked cars, houses, churches, tracktors...everything just seems a little more desolet this season. Not to mention when are these guys going to add some real crowds - I know this isn't legally the WRC but at least give me more than a dozen cutout spectators.

I too notice the acceleration thing. They always seemed to nail that in the past - very odd they missed this season.

Damage is pretty spectacular and I love the new advanced mode. If you tear into the car you might notice the car pulling to one side or gears slipping but really I would like it to be even more pronounced. Maybe it will up the damage even more once you unlock expert mode?

Also I wish the would have reworked the scoreboards before the US release. Man, that could have been so much cooler than it is. Something like PGR2's instantanious scoreboard would have ruled but they at least could have broke it down by car class and given us a menu instead of having to flip page by page. I am hoping RSC2 lets you setup seasons over XSN. Kind of the way Links is setup - just let people logon and play race their stages when they have time. It would work perfect for rally since it doens't have to be head to head.

Also I found Grist - he is Co-Driver B ... or if not Grist someone that sounds a lot like him.

Agreed, man. And thanks for the tip on Grist! I have an easier time understanding his Welsh accent than trying to decipher Ringer's Scottish lilt!

Great impressions from everyone so far. I'm going to pick this game up later today.

I have a question about tweaking the cars- I'm not that well educated on what settings to use on different surfaces...Will this game help me out? Is there an in-game manual or does the paper manual go into detail about how to customize your car?

I like the idea of sim rally racing because you can still get a great sense of speed but also have to really pay attention to what's going on.

                  JYD:

Both the manual and in-game setup menus are pretty cryptic. They'll give you a rough idea of what each change does, but trial and error is the best method to tinker with setups if you don't have a deep knowledge of rally.

It's probably the best way, anyways, as you'll learn what kinds of setups suit your driving style best. There are certain "musts" for each surface, such as lowering the car and stiffening the springs on smooth asphalt and raising the car and softening the springs on rough gravel with jumps. But decisions such as steering sensitivity, anti-roll bar and brake bias will depend on your style, whether you like a twitchy or smooth car or whether you like understeer or oversteer. That's part of the fun -- finding a setup that fits your style.

Enjoy! I think you'll dig the game.
