          Hangover:

You're one of those guys who probably said after Earnhardt's death, "Well, he died doing what he loved."

That's bull****. Do you think Dale Earnhardt wanted to crash while running in the top five of the Daytona 500?

So, let's see: Using your logic, a caution-free race with incredible action is less exciting that a restrictor-plate crashfest with 15 strong cars wiped out with 30 laps to go? Unbelievable. No wonder some NASCAR critics call it WWF on Wheels. Attitudes like yours certainly don't help to dispel that notion.

          Take care,
          PK

P.S.: I've worked in professional, major-league motorsports for nine years and covered motorsports as a daily journalist for four years before that. Not that it matters, but I have a smidge of knowledge of what I'm talking about. Spend some time with an injured driver or in the Infield Medical Center of a major racetrack during a trauma situation and tell me how great crashes are.

Hangover, just let it go man and relax, BD just likes to jerk peoples chains, but we all do that to each other. If you can dish it out, you gotta take it too.

Actually in an interview with Dale about dying he said if he dies in a race car that would be ok. However if he dies because his tractor overturned and layed on top of him..that would be tragic.
So yes I believe he would have wanted that to be the way he went.
Of course he did not want to die, but who does.

                  Re: The petition is UP!

You totally missed my point. Of course no driver wants to die.

But no driver wants to crash, either. That's why it's silly to say Dale Earnhardt -- or any driver who dies on the track -- died doing what they loved.

Drivers know the risks and accept the risks. But that doesn't mean they're cool with crashing or dying in a race car. There is a difference.

I think that is just peoples way of dealing with a death. I love playing baseball, but I got hurt pretty bad and couldn't breathe. I honestly thought I was going to die, but never did the thought of joy come into my mind because it happened doing something I love.

The two things: 1:No driver wants to crash or die and 2: Dieing doing what they love, don't have anything to do with each other.
No , no-one wants to die, but if they did die in a crash it WOULD be dieing ,doing what they love. And yes DE did die doing what he loved.

Hmm. Interesting. Last time I checked, Dale Earnhardt loved to win races and Winston Cups before his death.

Didn't know he enjoyed crashing ...

Sorry Skyboxer but you are losing it just a bit.

If Dale had the choice between

A: Dying in his sleep or
B: Dying in a 100 MPH car wreck

He like anyone would choose A... Now people always say "I want to die doing what I love" and all that BS but that is just for the press and to amuse people like yourself gullible enough to believe it.

Last I checked "being cool" with something and "accepting the risk" of something was the same thing. HOPING something happens is however different.

Now, that is a poser. As for me, I am one to go out with a bang, though I definitely would choose:
