Impressions after playing for about three hours:

Graphics are okay. Nowhere near Forza Horizon 2 level, but the world is HUGE.
There is some pop-in of visuals, which to me, seems inexcusable on PS4.
Sometimes traffic stops. Cars just sit there on the highway.

Even with some problems, I think The Crew has a ton of potential to be fun. I love driving across the country and seeing a big city off in the distance. This game makes for some good zen driving. Just relax, forget about your wife's incessant jabbering, and take in Ubisoft's version of America.

I have it on the xbone. First impressions have not sold the game to me. It is underwhelming. To me it is reminiscent of the Test Drive Unlimited games crossed with the Need For Speed franchise. Now don't get me wrong, a hybrid coming from such a pedigree should make for a pretty reasonable game. The Crew certainly isn't rubbish. It is not a bad game, it is just not overly captivating. Despite the size of the map and the activities laid out I can't help feel the whole thing is vacuous. Empty. Anyone remember NFS Undercover? I feel the ghost of that game here, clanking its chains and moaning. Admittedly I had some fun with Underground but it had that whole empty thing going on that brought me down man.

In The Crew the driving physics work against the feel of the game initially. The very first thing you do forces you to go off road where you discover you can drive right through small trees! No need to steer around or veer out of the way. Raises a serious question, what value is the steering wheel in the car if there is little to no penalty in riding through and over anything off road?

Moving deeper into the game and the "superficial" nature of the physics remove any constancy of connection between the cars and the massive world. Though, if you smash into traffic a wreck scene plays like in burnout paradise. That is cool enough but it just lacks believability because not much on the cars get wrecked and the hits don't look realistic. Again, the collision physics are very strange and not believable. You can glance off cars in races and in traffic like they are invisible walls at almost no cost to either. This sort of thing may be useful in DriveClub when playing online against corner bandits who live to smash into you to gain a place but here it kills immersion and it makes it hard to stomach that this is a new gen game that plays and handles this way. Handling is very arcade but there is some fun in it.

Graphically it is last gen, not horrible, not beautiful. Functional.

I was looking forward to having a huge open world with cars that are fun to drive. Firing it up now for another spin. If you remember Driver San Francisco then you have seen a game that could possibly rumble toe to toe with the Crew graphically. I know this is an mmo and that last comment was not to cast judgement but to create a useful parallel for anyone interested. Whereas the colours are much nicer in the Crew the textures are probably about equal and it is debatable which NPC model cars look better in general traffic.

Will put up some more thoughts upon a later time in my life.

Played a little more but I find the going tedious. I figured out what this game really feels like, it's like a game that goes up on xbox live or PSN as a free to play game but through micro transactions you pay for upgrades and other content to make the experience more rewarding. Kind of like Warframe or that WWII Tanks game.

As it is it is not strong enough. Driving across country the graphics aren't good enough to really make the changing landscapes come alive. Everything feels and looks too superficial. Like an Indie game that isn't trying to be more than an Indie game but the only thing is The Crew is not an Indie title. It is trying to compete with Forza Horizon 2 but has had its gall bladder kicked in easily by Horizon 1. Nay, it even gives up its back seat in the cab to games like Burnout Paradise and Midnight Club LA and certainly the remake of NFS Most Wanted.

My final thoughts consign The Crew to roughly the same place reserved for both Test Drive unlimited games. However TD 1 which came out at the start of the 360s existence was much, much better game due to it's novelty and the then beauty of its graphics and the magnitude of its scope. The Crew on new gen plays like a mid life cycle last gen game that needed more time to get things in shape. A far as open world racing games go, despite being on the latest consoles, The Crew is one of the weakest attempts spanning the last gen and the current.

I'm loving the open world driving. The controls are very loose, but with some tweaking of the settings, they are alright.

I agree with the graphics being a mix of last gen and a little current gen, but all the same, there are some truly breathtaking moments. Cruising through the mountains at night and coming upon Vegas is a sight to behold. I'm hoping they can patch the flickering, poor draw distance at times, and dead cars just sitting in the road. I think it depends on the kind of gamer you are on whether or not the game is for you. I like to drive and explore. It's why I like the GTA games.

Was really enjoying the game until I lost all mission progression. It reset me from about 15/65 to 1/65, replaying events doesn't add them to my completion either. In-game smartphone says I have completed several missions and times appear on leaderboards. This is gamebreaking for me at this time, very disappointed. Ubisoft is aware of the matter, as others have similar issues related to progression loss and other broken items.

I also never received my 3 vehicles and crew credits after entering code into PSN.

Are you sure? I remember growing up in Montana with large feet. After the kids made fun of me I'd run to Las Vegas to get away from everything. I wrote a song about it, then Randy Travis stole it. I'll get him back one day.

From what I seen on YouTube and live streams, The Crew is a good game, and is fun to play. Only gripe tbh is that there is only 43 cars and the variety is not that wide. There is not 47. The hot rod which you have to collect, has parts in each region which has that region specs.
