yeah, thats the view i always use as well...that would not be cool.....the idea is to add and enhance gameplay from previous years, not to take out something that worked

Re: Anybody looking forward to Nascar 2005?

When I played the demo at E3, I cycled through the camera angles and discovered there was no cockpit view. I recall asking the nearby EA rep about it, and he seemed to confirm that it was out for this year. To further back this up, I have yet to see any gameplay footage or screenshots featuring a cockpit view for Nascar 2005. It disappoints me too, as this was the view I used 90% of the time. I can get used to the roof view, but I will definitely miss the old cockpit view. I assume that EA killed it to compensate for all of the dev, texture and modeling work required to implement Trucks and Modifieds.

I'm also puzzled by why they have yet to implement full race replays. I would guess that there is some limiting factor in their game engine that prevents it, which I think has it's roots back in the old Nascar games for playstation and N64 . With the hard drive on the Xbox, you would think they could figure out a way to cache replays (much like the ESPN football game), but I can see EA viewing it as a very low-priority feature for their console game. Although Nascar Heat had it's own problems, they at least figured out how to make the replays work...

Thanks for the clarification, first hand. I think I'll be holding off on buying this one for awhile. The lack of a cockpit view makes this a "wait for a price drop" title for me. I was really looking forward to it and now I'm kinda crushed. Good old EA once again sticking it to us.

No cockpit view, almost no word from EA on improvements to the physics and racing models and only four-player online racing mean no purchase for me. Looks like EA is focusing on the eye candy and BS non-racing parts of the game instead of focusing on the rotting core of the game's racing and physics engines.

That's what happens when a company has an exclusive on a certain genre. Gamers lose. Period.

              Take care,

Read in the new EGM where the game got 2 9.0's and an 8.0. The updated grudges and alliances feature could prove to be good as well.

I have no doubt the game witll be good, but drafting from a 3rd person view or a "open" view really makes me wonder about how good the heart of the game will be. How do you draft with no front end showing? I just re-bought Nascar 2004 on Ebay. Better safe than sorry.

The 3rd person view or roof view is what I normally use whenever I play a racing game. Whenever I try to use the view from inside the car, it messes me up and then walls get tore down, cars get torn up, driver's get mad, etc...
