Picked it up this afternoon mostly based on Terry's impressions at OS. Terry mentioned the frame rate was bad at times and let me tell you, I don't see how EA could have let this game out the door in its current state.

I started a career with the featherlites and even in practice when I was the only car on the track, the slowdown was dreadful. I mean horrible. The good news is that the slowdown seems to be the same with 1 car on the track or 40.

I do like the game, though and the career mode looks to be real fun. Hopefully I can stomach the slowdown enough to hang onto it.

I ran one race online with 3 other guys. One complaint and I could be missing something here, but there doesn't seem to be any way to tell who is a human driver or an AI driver.

We ran a full field race at Bristol and the weird thing was the framerate was actually better there with 40 some cars on the track than it was with the featherlites with one car.

Some guy in the Kelloggs car kept banging the hell out of me on purpose, but he quit after a few laps. I'm sure the wreckers and backwards drivers will be out in force with this one. I couldn't tell if EA has anything like fair play in place to combat this stuff, but hopefully they did.

All in all, the game looks to be an improvement over last year's but I can't figure out why EA is having so many frame rate issues with the Xbox. Maybe they should talk to Codemasters and Sega and find out what they're doing because most of EA's games play like sh*t on the Xbox.

If anyone else gets it and wants to run some tonight, let me know. It wasn't but 8 people online as of an hour ago.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

I picked up the PS2 version based on Terry's mention of the Xbox slowdown. I have not encountered any slowdowns yet after about 10 races. The graphics are nothing to write home about, but so far the gameplay is smooth. The Fight to the Top mode is really cool. I've been racing Featherlites, and just got offered a testing session in trucks, also Jeff Gordon just challenged me to a street race. The rivalry feature seems toned down from last year also.

                    Badgun,

The good news is the slowdown is attributed to the track, mostly...not the game overall. The first race in the Featherlites is the worst it gets. I noted it in the review (which should be posted tonight), but you're right...it's the same whether it's just you or a full field. I think Ball Raceway (if I remember correctly, the first track's name) is the worst in the entire game. If I didn't have to write the review, I would have had a hard time finding out how fun it is.

Can anyone tell me if it's in 480p/widescreen? Thanks!

I got the PS2 verson also, due to EA's problems with Xbox slowdown. (*cough* *cough* NCAA Football).
And I've got to admit, it doesn't look the cleanest, with the jaggies and such, but it does run smooth, and maintains a consistant frame rate.
