Re: F1 2017...How is your career going?

After three straight finishes in the points, it was on to Austria. It was a recipe for disaster. There was no way the gearbox was going to last one more race, so we had to take a grid penalty. The Red Bull Ring is a power circuit...and as such, it's not going to be pretty for us. And for the first time in several races, we don't make it out of Q1, qualifying 16th. The grid penalty drops us to 20th.

    So it's a last-to-first challenge! Yeah, that didn't happen.

The track was rough on my tires, and as such, I ended up having to make a second pit stop. Ended up going a lap down, and finished in 14th place behind Lance Stroll. Lewis Hamilton ran away with the race as Mercedes cut into Ferrari's lead in the constructor's championship. Bottas leads Raikkonen in the driver's championship by a single point. I sit one point behind Perez for 7th place in the driver's race. By finishing out of the points, Haas was able to jump us for fifth place in the constructor's race, a single point ahead of us.

Re: F1 2017...How is your career going?

These games over the last two years have really started to get me interested in this motorsport, hence the films and docs I've been watching and just today I'm watching the 2016 season in review bluray set which is amazing. I'm learning a lot!

However, question; which standings carry more weight? Constructors or driver? Is there a championship for constructors too?

Sorry to interrupt with a question, just learning Wish there was a way to retroactively view complete races.

There is no official prize money for the drivers. They get performance bonuses from their teams based on their contracts. For all intents and purposes, the driver's championship is strictly for bragging rights.

All the prize money is tied up in the Constructors Championship. It's a complicated formula. Teams that finish in the top 10 gets a base amount. Then there is another amount based on where they finish in the top 10. Then there is a bonus fund. Top 3 teams get extra money. Ferrari gets a bonus payment for being Ferrari.

Thanks man...that's very interesting. Now I really get some of these calls the teams make to switch positions or allow a team mate overtake during the races, and it's all for constructors position not driver points.

For you guys who use controllers, what level AI you go up against that make using some assists competitive yet challenging?

Also, 2017 worth upgrade from 2016?

Re: F1 2017...How is your career going?

On to Silverstone and the British GP, another power circuit where I'm just quaking in my little racing boots because I had absolutely zero pace in practice or in qualifying. Ended up qualifying 16th, but in front of Alonso, so there is that.

Luckily for me, the forecast is calling for rain (we are in Britain) to start a few laps into the race and settle in for the remainder. I have the potential to make some huge gains if I can possibly make my dry stint last a while before switching to the inters.

We begin making our way up through the field and by lap three, the first raindrops are beginning to fall. We've made our way up to 7th, but I'm forced to pit on lap six as my tires went off a cliff. I'm regretting going with the super softs, but I just didn't like running on the soft tires in practice. On lap seven, Raikkonen parks his car with a mechanical failure, bringing out the safety car.

When we come out of the safety car, people begin peeling off for pit road to make the switch to inters. But the race stewards still hadn't turned the DRS off, and Jeff hasn't mentioned anything about a strategy change. So I go f it, let's go one more laps on these slicks. I'm not the only one who makes that decision, as four other cars in front of me stay out. They are really struggling getting around, and I'm quickly up into the first place and I come in for inters.

The strategy call really worked out for me as with most of the field pitting as the safety car was ending, I was able to make up lots of time, coming out of the pits in fifth place. Bottas was in first place, Hulkenberg second, Vettel third, Verstappen fourth. On lap 17, Verstappen and Vettel's rivalry reared its ugly head again.

Vettel was going onto pit road at the same time that Verstappen got a hell of a run and attempted to pass Vettel on the inside. They collided, Vettel ended up t-boning the pit wall entrance, causing terminal damage to his engine. A double retirement for Ferrari, who lost their lead in the Constructor's race. Verstappen escaped with just minor damage...and I ended up jumping into third place on their misfortune. I come into the pits on the next lap for a second set of inters and come out in third place right behind Hulkenberg with Verstappen breathing down my neck.

We'll jump forward to the last lap. Bottas has won the race, Hulkenberg has pulled away from me. And Verstappen has passed me on the back straightaway. Heading into the final chicane, Verstappen has a major lockup on the left front, and I slip under him, then squeeze him out coming out of the chicane, and get this damn McLaren back on the podium for the second time this season (coincidentally, in the rain again).

Jason your write ups are amazing. keep them coming. Got game today, cannot wait to start career. Just need best controller and AI settings.

Also what length races are good? 25? can you save during a session?

Thanks for the props there. To answer your earlier question, yes 2017 is worth the upgrade over 2016 just because of the advances they made in career mode.

When I used a controller, I just used default settings. As for AI settings, it's just whatever is comfortable. I've worked my way up to a setting of 85.

I race on the expert setting. 2017 is the first F1 game I have played since the PS2/Xbox era. I find that on expert, I'm occasionally able to win on certain tracks which suit me, but more often I'm fighting to stay in the points or to get a top 5 or whatever. It's a challenging, competitive level for me. I don't want to be able to win easily on every track, but I don't want to be bringing up the rear either.

Can we pick any of the Teams to drive for? or limited? Like to drive Ferrari or Mercedes.

It's been a while since I began my season, but if I recall, you get a handful of middle of the road teams to choose from at first. And if you do well, after about 5 or 6 races, the bigger teams will offer you a seat. I began the season with Haas, but now I'm with Ferrari.

I should note that established drivers cannot race for another team in the game. So if you take Louis Hamilton's seat for instance, he can't turn around and drive for Red Bull. His season will simply come to an end.

Thanks Lt.Dan, This is important to know, so will probably start career on a lower Ferrari Team. Can you tell A noticeable difference in teams? Like the better teams have better equipment from start? So If I do pick top Ferrari Team, and pick Vettel as my teammate, I will be expected right away to perform? But at same time starting with better equipment and R&D?
