Damn man...that sucks. I hope you score this soon because it's amazing.

I have been playing these titles each year since F1 2015 and this game is fantastic. I will say if you were using a Mcclaren in career mode, you are in for a different experience following update 1.06 as it is like driving a different car now. Out of the box the car was too good and now feels much more unstable and under powered, as it should be.

Re: F1 2018 Review: Perhaps One of the Best Racers Ever

I usually play the game a couple of different ways.

I usually like to start the AI difficulty at 50 and enjoy being a "rookie sensation phenom/second coming of Senna" experience, as long as I'm still getting good races and not out there just running laps with no heat.

Then my second year I like to go either restart the career or just bump it up to 60 or so and fight for a top 5/top 10.

Now, they really need to work on the comportment of the AI, especially under blue flag or when they need to avoid a car which has problems.

It's really the big flaw that the game has right now.

Re: F1 2018 Review: Perhaps One of the Best Racers Ever

I played 2017 a lot and loved it! The biggest immersion killer for me was how the AI would have terminal race ending engine failures, or even a tire puncture. That is completely fine and realistic. I loved that!

However, it was a real game immersion killer that as the player that would never happen to me. Have they fixed this problem this year?

What I'd really like to see is while running a perfectly fine race, even with engine components not worn etc I want smoke to come out of my engine on lap 5 of a race.

I want a tire puncture for going off track. I want to feel like at any moment something could happen, because it does certainly happen to at least 2-4 cars every race for the AI. I got frustrated last year cause I wasn't "earning" positions in the weak Sauber when I knew going into a race I'd gain a free 3 or 4 positions because of it.

Also, the AI mis managing their engine components was a huge problem for me. By the last 5 or 6 races of a season, half thw field were taking grid penalties and it just looked stupid to me. I managed mine properly and never had a penalty until the last couple races.

If they fixed those things I think I will buy F1 2018. If not then I'd just be frustrated again, and the immersion would be lost.

Tyre failures can happen to the player through hitting the wall too often or driving over debris. But I don’t believe there are any terminal failures with engine / car components. You can lose a gear from an over worked gearbox and poor performance from a worn engine part but don’t believe anything worse.

Yeah, losing a gear was all that ever happened last year too. So frustrating they couldn't fix this.

Maybe add in the option of turning terminal failures on/off. I still want damage, and engine component malfunctions, but turn off terminal failures would be nice.

For how it is now, turning damage completely off seems like the way to go. Still have to manage engine components, but not worry about AI having terminal failures, or crashing each other.

Yes. Even though I have not been able to play the full release yet. I did play in several Beta's and a community event.

The AI is much better and racier, much smarter. The Career mode and R&D is much more developed than in 17. Plus you have the addition of Paul Ricard bringing the track total to 21. They have also added manual ERS adjustments if you are so inclined.

17 is a great game, I am still playing it myself, but 18 is a major upgrade of the franchise.

Inclined? Is there an option to automate that? Not that I want to...I NEED to manipulate it to get the performance during races.

Thank you sir...I'll review the options (though I get a kick out of managing it...but don't think I want to screw with it at a couple of tracks (Monaco says 'hello!').

Yes. Many upgrades throughout, but the most important is the improved AI in single-player modes.

The AI is VERY impressive. Perhaps the best I've seen in a console game. Right up there with the original Project Cars, but F1 2018 is a FAR superior game in every other way to Project Cars and Project Cars 2.

Even with the AI set at 55, Lewis ran about 10 seconds ahead of me at Baku, and I was locked in amazing combat with Bottas the whole time after pit stops, right to the finish where he beat me with his superior speed on the straights. But we exchanged positions a lot and I barely grabbed third. It was freakin' awesome.

Just picked this game up on sale on the X1X $35.00. Excellent game. Second race of the season I was fighting to catch Hamilton all race for first place but just couldn’t reel him in. Then with two laps to go his car started smoking and he pulled over , out of the race. Got my first win.
