I've noticed one thing : it seems like the AI will never pit under yellow for new tires unless they need fuel.

Re: NASCAR Heat 4 Review
I can't give you the level of answer you're probably looking for... I use the 'partial yellow flag' rules, or whatever they call it. It skips a lot of the Xs and Os of the pitting process, especially in gauging what the other cars are doing. The partial pit rules suit my gaming style to a "T" though. I get to decide if I want to pit, what I want to have done during the stop, bypasses the pitting sequence and animation, and puts me back on the track, rolling back up the home stretch, ready to go green.
It does appear that the cars are in the order I would have expected coming out of the yellow, or at least the best I can tell they are. I may go full yellow eventually, but right now, as I'm progressing through the truck series, I like the efficiency of it.Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: NASCAR Heat 4 Review
So this is the first nascar game I’ve played in about 15 years and man is it a lot of fun. It’s even gotten me to watch a few replays of the real races on the nascar channel.
Career is mode is fun, enjoying grinding up to work my way up to the cup series. Blew away a truck series win because I ran out of fuel in turn 3 and ended up coming second to the 52 truck.

Re: NASCAR Heat 4 Review
I am doing a career and I started in the truck series. I have the game on the highest level of difficulty. I am not a real big setup guy so I usually just use the preloaded setups with a few alterations. Things started off well enough as I placed top 15 at Daytona and top 20 at Atlanta. However the next 3 races at Vegas, Martinsville and Texas I have been out to lunch. I can qualify in the 20s but as soon as the race starts I quickly go to last and lose touch with the pack. It seems like I get killed down the straightaways like I am under powered. I am driving for a 3 star team so I wasn't expecting wins but I was hoping to at least be competitive.
I use a controller and was hoping to get some tips on here on what I can do to try to be more competitive.Comment

Re: NASCAR Heat 4 Review
The problem is career mode "Legend" difficulty sets the AI percentage at 105, which you will not compete with without a top tier team, and in general, some setup tweaks.
I'm not the best driver in the world, but on speedways I can generally get every bit of grip I can out of a car on a long run, and I seem to top out at about 102% or 103% on default setups.
A 3-star team is not going to be competitive. You're supposed to be running near the rear of the field (25th ish), while 4-star teams are supposed to be an occasional top 10, and 5-stars occupy the top 10 spots almost every week.
So, in short...you can't. They have better equipment, better motors, better chassis, and better setups. And on Hard, you might find yourself in the same place that I and many others have found themselves--win almost every race on Hard, yet not be in contention for any wins on Legend. Why they didn't just make the difficulty a percentage, I have no idea.
But I found a sweet spot in owning my own team on "Hard", upgrading the car to about 90, and then running that way. I'll be top 5 or 10 a lot, fighting for wins, but it's never easy.
At least it's competitive, though.Comment

Re: NASCAR Heat 4 Review
A new patch for the PS4 and XBox One versions was released yesterday. Here's what was fixed: "PS4 patch with AI ghosting fix is live. Xbox patch with career crash, excessive wheel vibration, and improved pit collision fixes is also live."
I can confirm that it did fix the force feedback vibration chattering on my Thrustmaster TX wheel, in the XBox One version. I switched over to "performance" setting in the graphics settings and did not get the chatter that I was seeing prior to the patch. OTOH, I really didn't notice a performance improvement in Performance mode, but I'll keep at it.
I had never experienced either of the other two items listed as being fixed, so I can't comment on them. This is a start though... it's already a very good game, but it does get a bit shaky in the frame rate department on the road courses, especially Mid-Ohio. I'll have to go back and check Mid-Ohio again in performance mode to see if I can spot a difference there. I'll report on that later!Duke Football? Re: NASCAR Heat 4 Review
I tweeted Sean Wilson about what performance differences XBox One X owners should see when opting for "Performance" versus "Quality" graphics settings. His reply was "It's subtle"... I agree, very subtle, because I honestly can't tell a difference in the performance at all. I really wish they would have shot for 60 FPS on the XBox One X in performance mode, even if it meant making some graphical sacrifices to get there. This game is nice, but it would be even better at 60 FPS!Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: NASCAR Heat 4 Review
I picked up the Gold edition this weekend. Finally, after five years of development, the Heat series is beginning to feel like a quality racing series. There are so many QOL improvements here (tiled menus!) that it's difficult to list them all, but little things such as (finally) being able to remove name indicators and having track maps and functional big screens all add up.
Of course these improvements had to come at a price, and the price seems to be the frame rate, on my PS4 Pro anyway. With NH2 and 3, the frame rate was unlocked. Racing on an empty track with no rearview mirror (not the way most of us typically race, but hey) produced a visibly higher frame rate than usual. Judging purely by eyesight, the NH4 frame rate appears to be locked at 30, choosing "Performance" or "Quality" seems to matter very little.
It's hard to critique when everything else looks so much better than previous iterations, but if they could only squeeze a bit more out of the consoles (and Unity), I believe NH4 could be a top-tier NASCAR title.www.heyimbill.com | sports poster art and other cool stuffComment

I am on fence with NH4 After NH3 disappointment against AI. Friend of mine has it and loves it. Might wait for sale.

Re: NASCAR Heat 4 Review
I am having a blast with this game. Currently in the 13 in the Xfinity series on normal. Picked up 2 wins so far at Daytona and Bristol.
Hoping to get a 5 star ride in either the 21 or the 10.
