    F1 Manager 2022: How's it going?

I've got two rounds left in my initial season with Haas and I'm wondering what you guys are thinking of the game after a few weeks? My season goal was to be in 6th and that's where I'm at, 14 points behind 5th and 24 points ahead of 7th. Schumacher's contract is about to expire and I am wanting to hire Piastri, but I'm wondering if the wiser move is to stick with Schumacher? He's a 78 now, Piastri a 74, but Piastri has the higher growth potential. Maybe even go for a more experienced driver? Magnussen is kicking Schumacher's butt weekly.

Looking back, I should have hired Piastri as the reserve driver to start the season (if he'd even move from Alpine) and kept throwing him out in FP1 for the dev points and promoting him at the end of the year. The FP1 dev points are huge. I hired Logan Sargent as the reserve driver and his OVR rating has gone up three points in like half a season.

Anyways, what are you guys thinking so far? Any tips before transitioning to the new year? I'm hoping I made the right call in year one focusing heavily on research for the following season. I did not expect to be as in to this game as I am, but I've been playing it every night for a few hours ever since it released.

Damn I figured SOMEONE on these forums was still playing this game.

Did the offseason, put Piastri in Schumacher's seat and man, what a move. Between that and my entire first season being heavily focused on research for the 2023 car, I got Haas a W in the first race of the second season in what was Piastri's first race, period. On top of that, Magnussen finished third. Second race was very different, with a p6 and p9, but it's great to be racing against Ferrari, RB, and Merc and not against Aston Martin and Williams.

I'm slowly still playing it. Nothing against the game really, just really short on time lately. I think I'm like 4-5 races into 1st season with Haas. I did replace Fittipaldi with Sargent. Not sure on Mick, as he's always way behind Kevin.

If I could do the whole first season over again I would have seen if I could hire Piastri into the reserve slot and had him run out in FP1 every weekend for those sweet 500 dev points.

Haven't played it as much lately, mostly because I'm pressed for time. I'm still enjoying it. Hopefully, upcoming patches fix what little issues the game has. But for a first go, I'm enjoying the game.

            Re: F1 Manager 2022: How's it going?

I am not sure if it's the car or the level of player. I am in the Williams and I am getting sick and tired of going wide or wrecking. Kind of surprised you won with Piastri because everyone I have seen on youtube, he runs wide or wrecks all the time. I hope it's the car and not the level of player. Albon is 80 overall and after 16 races, have finish only 13 and ran wide a few times during the ones he did finish to take him out of good finishing spots. Are you having that problem in Haas?

I have gotten 2 top 10 (6th thanks to a rain race and my strategy working great and 10th) with Albon and that is great. Latifi blows (runs wide like every race or wrecks) but going to keep him the whole season before I change. I am getting better and better figuring out stuff. Albon I think is going to be my number 1 driver once I replace Latifi. Thinking of getting Vettel just so I can keep my focus on trying to get Albon better and have a vet that hopefully won't wreck or run wide all the time. I can see myself playing this game all the time, even if I take a break here or there.

My first year I focused on getting parts to go faster. My first 3 chances I did development which I have seen my car get faster on the track. I am racing against Haas, Mclaren's and Alpha teams. My 4th chance I did research. I hope I didn't do it backwards hahaha. I wasn't thinking of doing research first. Maybe I should have?

Patch 1.8 is out which fixes the widescreen issues. Now It moves the UI to the far left and right. However, on my 49inch screen it kind of makes you move your head a back and forth because its probably too wide! hahaha. I hope in a patch they make it so you can just move the UI around. I could deal with the UI not being widescreen, what bother me more than that was anytime you hover over car 1 or 2 you end up either blocking out the leaderboard or the map. I would have rather them put in where we can move the UI around. However at least this is a start and it does look better with the UI away from the center of the screen.

Haven't done any races yet to see what the patch has done to the overall game play. Per the patch notes, seems like it fixed a few things.

                Re: F1 Manager 2022: How's it going?

Good question on designing current season parts vs researching for next season. I guess the best way to look at it is this: designing new parts is for the CURRENT SEASON ONLY and will increase the competitiveness of your current car for the remainder of the campaign. Research is for NEXT SEASON ONLY (it will not impact your current car AT ALL) and gives your following years car a leg up when developing parts. I focused so heavily on research the first season because it didn't seem like the Haas would be competitive that, I don't think I could develop new parts fast enough that would catch me up to the other teams with enough races left to make it a viable strategy.

The Piastri win felt fluky now that I'm halfway through the second year. He's about 30 points behind Magnussen who beats him most races. To me, the running wide issue seems to be much more about the track itself and how aggressively you're pushing the tires. I'll go entire races with neither of them running wide, and in the last race I think both drivers locked up twice including Piastri on the final lap, going from 9th to 12th in the process.

Yep I believe you are correct about pushing with the tires. With the new patch you can't get away with pushing a lot, and I notice I only spun once with one drive my next race and it was probably because I was pushing fuel as I had extra because of a safety car.

So I think you are correct. I am in Williams and even though Albon hangs around 13th avg. finishing position, probably would have been better to research for next year. I was worried about being bad and wanted to at least beat the Aston Martin team. Latifi finishes above them most races. However, I should have just let them race the first season with their car they have now and do what you did and research for next year.

                    Have they fixed/adjusted race tires?

I'm very interested in getting this game, but I saw many users report that the tire system was basically broken and that there was no speed difference between soft/medium/hard tires. So, always just go hard for longevity.

                      Yes, 1.8 adjusted race tires.

They are having to work on a hotfix for Suzuka because 1.8 broke the track (most AI cars won't finish the race due to running out of fuel).

OMGGGGGGG I didn't realize this was a thing.

Last night I was running in first at Suzuka with Magnussen and with like ten laps left I get a low fuel warning. WTF, I hadn't pushed all race, just got lucky with the pit stop timing during a safety car to end up in first and now I have a low fuel warning. Somehow Magnussen had like three liters less of gas compared to his teammate Piastri despite me not pushing fuel consumption with either driver.

Fast forward to the end of the race. Even after running ten laps with fuel conservation on Magnussen ran out of gas with like three turns left on the final lap. Went from running first to a DNF.

                        PAIN.

Damn! I haven't gotten to that track yet. If they don't fix it by then, might have to put in extra fuel to see if I can get my first win of the season! Ok maybe cheating . Matter of fact I just finish a race and just checked and that is my next race lol. Good thing I looked. I am trying to be authentic as possible, but damn I want to get a driver in the top 3 in one race this year.

I just did the race at Marina Bay and got 7th. There where 2 safety cars that put out Lec and Tsun. First safety car I put on fresh Meds because I pitted like 9 laps ago and was pushing to try to get into the DRS so was down to 80%. I got pass by 3 cars by stopping, however I passed them all up and 2 more (they were on worn tires). Then in getting to 7th I stop for softs on the second safety with 14 laps to go and help me get passed 4 cars (very tricky because I was in 9th and I knew if I put on softs I would lose 2 positions but also have about 11 laps after the safety car ended to get pass them and hopefully a couple of more). Almost got 6th but just couldn't get pass Russell.

Looking back the AI drivers probably would have stop on the 2nd safety car in real life to put on fresh tires.

Yeah the tire update seems to have tweaked some things. Noticing more pits in general, AI drivers pitting more on safety cars for fresh tires. They seemed to have nerfed the medium-hard one stop strategy, at least on some tracks.

One thing I'm going to have to re-think with the latest update is tire usage in practice. Normally I go through practice like this: FP1, softs and then mediums; FP2, new softs and new mediums; FP3, new softs and hards. This way come race day I have one full 100% set of softs, mediums, and hards each. I think I need to go into races, at least on hot tracks, with two sets of 100% mediums ready to go.

Having two pairs of medium tires would have helped in my last race. I just did the COTA race last night. I AMAZINGLY had a Magnussen/Piastri 1-2 start since Verstappen (on pole) had a grid penalty. Both drivers had a two stop plan with two medium stints and one hard. Once the race started and I got to the first pit window, I was cruising. Mags in first up five seconds on Piastri after I had Mags push the first stretch of the race and Piastri hold back the other drivers. Like a dummy, I didn't realize that neither driver had a second set of fresh mediums and the best available sets were only at like 50% after being used in practice. I pivoted to short soft stints, but WOW did the tire deg kill me. Magnussen went from 100% to 88% after ONE LAP, the first of a seventeen lap stint on them. I was cooked. Ended up in 7th and 9th (but I did get fastest lap).

Ended up in 7th and 9th (but I did get fastest lap).
Oh yea that is not good! Yea with the change have to see how to handle it now. 100% to 88% after 1 lap is nuts!

I usually only get 1 driver to q2, so right now my practice are fp1 is 2 sets of softs for 2 runs and maybe 6 minutes on the clock to do a few laps on a 3rd run on one of those softs (helps to start building up the 0-5 before fp2 and than do the same in fp2 to help in fp3). fp2 I usually do 2 softs there also or a soft and 1 medium. fp3 I do either 1 medium (usually the one I used in fp2 if I remember correctly) or 1 hard for the whole practice. By then I am close to 100% if not at 100%. I think for both my drivers my avg. is like 97% in all my races. That is one thing I am good at hahaha.

I know if you do conserve especially on medium and hards you can extend them during practice, but it might take longer to get the 5-5. I don't normally do that as they last pretty long for me in fp3. I never use more than 1 medium and/or 1 hard for practice, however, I am not getting to q3 either so that might be why. I do try to leave myself 4 softs after practice so I have at least a set for q1 and one for q2. You probably know all this anyways. I will have to see how it changes once I start getting my drivers to q3.

Edit: hahah they just patched the fuel. 1.9 patch out just a small one.
