 My bro just "accidently" won an auction for a PS3, 480 bucks shipped.
 
 Now, we got it primarily as a Blu-Ray player but my bro said "Hey, might as well get a PS3 and have added functionality if I want it".
 
 That said, what do I need to know about the PS3? To be honest, I haven't paid one bit of attention to PS3 news or system info due to my personal non-interest in its' purchase.
 
 Lots of info in this thread I know, but if someone could give me the Cliff Notes, it would be much appreciated. Yes, it's 2:30am and I'm lazy. At least I'm admitting it  Comment

 What kind of HDTV do you have? If it's a 1080p set, Blu-ray will output 1080p and the games whatever their native resolution (mostly 720p...the PS3 doesn't scale games).Info primarily pertaining to Blu-Ray. If it upconverts to 1080p...etc.

 If you have a 1080i tube HDTV, the Blu-ray will be output at 1080i, but the 720p native games will be output at 480p (assuming your TV DOESN'T accept a 720p signal).
 
 You will need an HDMI cable if you want (check Monoprice for cheap cables online), or a component cable (the PS2 cables work just fine).
 
 As for games, most people will say the following: Resistance, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden, Oblivion, and MLB: The Show. I pretty much use my PS3 as a Blu-ray player and a PS2...though the updated graphics of 'Ninja Gaiden' are pretty sweet!I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams

 The TV the PS3 will be hooked up to is a 46" Sony Bravia XBR 3, so it does 1080p.
 
 Thanks for the help JTS. Any other "must know details" that should be known? By this I mean possible hardware issues, etc.Comment

 The only thing I can think of with the XBR3 is to set your Blu-ray output to "YPbPr" in the settings and turn "Super White" to ON (have to download the latest firmware).I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams
