    Re: 360 vs. PS3

Since you mainly play sports games, the main question u need to ask yourself is if you want online gaming. If the answer is yes then u probably want the 360. They have extended the warranty for the 360 but they still haven't addressed the problem. That means when your 360 breaks down you will probably be waiting 4-6 weeks for a replacemet. I believe the PS3 will catch up with the 360. The Show is alot of fun and Madden will be at 60 FPS. Plus the blue-ray is a major plus.

      Re: 360 vs. PS3

I bought a PS3 today and I love it! Everything about it is cool except for the game collection.

Having an Xbox 360 for over a year I would compare them:

1.) Graphics for now: Xbox 360 even/slightly better than Ps3
2.) Graphics for future: PS3 slightly better/even than the 360
3.) Game Selection for Now: 360 by a landslide
4.) Game Selection for Future: PS3 (GT5, FF XIII, MGS4, God of War III, and many more), Xbox 360 (Halo 3, Mass Effect, Assassians Creed, what else?) I'd give the favor to the PS3
5.) Online, PSN is free, Xbox Live costs $43 a year. Live is better, but then again PSN is free!
6.) Coolness factor: PS3, I can honestly say it looks and feels like next gen. The sixaxis is a nice touch, and a simple feature like the disk insetion/ejection is really cool and dramatic (I literally spent 15 minutes putting a disk in and ejecting it!)
7.) Reliability: PS3 all the way. The 360 has a fundamental flaw in its design. I don't like the feeling of paranoia everytime I turn on the 360.

And on another note, the 360 has a SUPERIOR collection of game demos and the Ps3 doesnt evn have movies to download.

With the $499 price tag I'd go with the PS3, but if you have to choose in August I'd say 360 (with the price drop, and PS3 price increase).

#2 will never happen because the chip on the 360 is better than the PS3. Custom ATI chip based off the R600 while hte PS3 has a 7800GTX. No comparison.
#5 PSN is prone to being a laggy mess and an unlreliable. $50 a year is nothing and guarantees you a reliable service always maintained and updated. Servers always being added and consistent online content updates. Good try again.
#4 not a chance in hell. Oh yeah lets see, blue dragon, eternal sonata, lost odessey need I go on?
#6 wow it looks cool but is it. Not really. It's a good media console but not a gaming console. Wow wowzers bluray great if you wantto spend $25 for a movie. Whoopee. And if you find inserting a disc and ejecting it to be dramatic maybe you'd also like to watch milk curdle. And sixaxis is a joke. It's a last minute addont to the current PS2 controller towards and attempting to copy the motion controls of the wii. But how many games actually take good advantage of it. none that I know of.
        7) Not everyone's 360 is pront to failure. But I do agree it has a design flaw in it's 1.0 initial design. What you people need to understand is that instead of one big heatsink trying to cool the CPU and GPU it's now a 3 seperate heatsink design on the console. ALl 360's repaired and newly built has this new heatsink design. PS3 had extra time in this area and sony did it right.

But I wouldn't pay $499 for a console to play bluray movies.

          Re: 360 vs. PS3

Having the Luxury of owning both... The 360 is my choice for the foreseeable future. That could change once the PS3 FINALLY has a good stable of great games for it that are Exclusive to their system OR that the developers make the PS3 the Lead SKU for development.

Online though... Sony needs to COPY XBox Live or at least GIVE us the choice of paying $50yr for them to have high end servers like Microsoft.

I will say though that us guys here that are lucky and crazy enough too own both systems are going to have a hell of a sweet and painful in the pocket holiday season!

Which is true but the 7800 is a modified chip as well. The RSX is still below the ATI but where the RSX fails Sony hopes the Cell picks up the slack and moves it to the next level.

Will it? It would be nice, but we have yet to see it.

But don't base your decision on performance... you can spend hours, days, and weeks reading text and looking at graphs. PS3 might be the future system to get but now 360 without a doubt.

              Re: 360 vs. PS3

PSN isn't necessarily a laggy mess. First party games are run on dedicated servers with pretty much no lag at all. Third party games are run on the same peer to peer system that all Live games run on. 360 really wins in the execution and GUI and simplicity, but PSN is getting better, but right now I guess you could call it somewhat of a mess.

You obviously haven't played MLB The Show online it's a laggy mess that will disconnect you most of the time.

A patch is coming tomorrow that will hopefully fix that...see the "Show Patch" thread on the MLB '07 Online subforum for details.

But anyway, you're not saying that just because one game lags, they all do, are you? I know the download speeds are slow, but I doubt the other games have the Show's online troubles...

                    Re: 360 vs. PS3

Unless you have the money to buy both, theres no reason in the next year to own a PS3 over a 360.

Plus the 360 should have the new chipset consoles in stores very soon, which soon take care of all the breaking problems.

I have a xbox 360 and i love it but it did break on me once, I mean the xbox thing is like a community having xbox live etc, With the new halo 3, perfect dark and probably another gears of war for this gen i think its the way to go. But PS3 does seem to have alot more power but it hasnt been used and who knows if it will be used. I will really miss playing god of war 3 tho that series is a awesome one for sony
