I guess we need to restart the countdowns for The Show at 3,714. I can't think of any players with that number off the top of my head.Ryan Spencer

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion Part Deux
I think the biggest thing about this whole issue is, that Sony obviously knew about the issue (it being fixed in most Slims).
If I was a betting man, I'd love to tell you guys that at 8PM everything will go back to normal... BUT, there is still a missing day in there which could still throw off the system. Here's my point, PSN knows it's 3/2 tomorrow. The PS3's will still think it's 3/1. See what I'm saying. While I hope for all of you that it's the simple clock fixing itself, I fear a firmware update is going to be required, meaning flashdrives will be needed to update like aukevin said.
On the flip side of that, Sony's current silence is deafening, you would think if they knew that at 8PM, all is good in Sony land again, they would be shouting that on their site, twitter, etc.
Who knows, again, just hope it gets fixed for you guys who are down (which sounds like most of the old time OS PS3 guys). I feel bad for ya.

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion Part Deux
Found this rather interesting:
Might be old news, but thanks to a certain hardware/software guru, and from various of sources and efnet they are able to at least give the letdown why this problem is happening. Quoted.
Well the gist is that the ARM SYSCON CPU that is used to power up the front panel of the ps3, that is responsible for doing things like sleep mode, eject, RTC etc. Is an old batch that sony picked up from the shelf like other manufacturers that has that calendar year bug regarding feburary 29th on certain periods. Causing the ps3 system clock and the real time clock to desync, messing up security measures like Digital Rights management software and sometimes games that relies on clocks for whatever reason. As well as signing up to the playstation network... This CPU is always on even when your PS3 isn't plugged
This problem is also happening with various of test Ps3 models, particulary the ones that has the emotion engine cpu/gpu for ps2 dev.
This is the one of the same type of CPUs that is powering up mobile devices like zune and blackberries, they have been affected with this bug, so they done some software patches. A syscon update can also fix this problem
The Slims ps3s aren't affected because they use a newer up to date revision on the syscon cpu that fixes this bug.
A quick way to fix this is to remove the RTC battery for at least 5-10 min and plug it back in, you will see the date and time reset, and voila...
BTW all this was quoted from some ps3 hardware gurus and tested by various of peeps on efnet, all thanks to them for the information
One cannot wait to hear Sony's excuse for this one, They might play innocent for using off the shelve parts and blame manufacturers.Comment

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion Part Deux
Yesterday afternoon I earned a trophy playing GOW collection. I stopped playing the game, and shut down my PS3. I didn't sync that trophy. Turned on my PS3 at around 11 PM last night, and got the error message. I wonder if the error is somehow connected to those that didn't have all their trophies synced?Comment

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion Part Deux
I think you're right, it'll probably fix itself tonight...but on the off chance it doesn't fix itself, yikes. Lots of people with fatties out there have never connected the system to a network, these "non techie" people are supposed to have a USB drive they can use to update firmware? That'd be a complete nightmare for Sony.

Removing the RTC battery? Let me guess... that requires me to open up my PS3 doesn't it? :Sigh:Comment

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion Part Deux
I wouldn't bother...that's anything but an official fix, and unless this thing magically fixes itself at 6:00 GMT there's going to have to be a firmware update (might be one before that).Comment

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion Part Deux
I'd be willing to bet money that Sony will just wait it out and the issue will resolve itself at midnight GMT. By the time they could put together and test a firmware update it would probably be just before or after the issue will correct itself.
Although they probably should fix this in their next firmware update, since if the clock really is the issue it would occur again in 2014.Ryan Spencer
