Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
There is no sense in doing anything until Home hits. But if Home is a major dissapointment and is still behind that of what XBL offers gaming wise, it will be either time to bring in a new IT team for online support or starting gather more resources to upgrade the system whether it be charging customers money or getting those resources from Sony.
Since both of us are in the IT world, we both know how hard it is to get extra funding for IT support. No matter how big the need is.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
I agree, but how could Sony release a new system without even knowing about Home? A new system is a chance for a new strategy...Home screams of desperation for me, and now I'm even wondering if it's going to pay off. Is it still going to be Second Life type stuff? I know some people are hardcore into that, but I don't know...
Question is, is it necessary? Is all this hard work really going to make the difference. As a hardcore gamer, I would have been fine with a simple service like XBL on PSN.
Here is a video of how the game invites will work in Home presented by the lead guy of Home.
I'll say this, it is pretty neat. But necessary?Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
From the videos I have seen they pretty much took everything XBL has and made it virtual. Achievements, messaging, even in game invites.

I catch crap at work when I miss deadlines...Hell, as a group we had a project get screwed up and slip a couple months...people get yelled at. Home has just slipped way too far. I know they're locked into a full launch, but couldn't they have just put the functionality in there as "Home 1.0" and then added on the visual avatar aspect?
Hindsight is 20/20, and I'm sure people at Sony were way too enamored with the clothing aspects, somewhat similar to the visor or sock color guys here. My guess is that people told them it could be done in a year and went oops. The consumer therefore suffers, but oh well.
Hopefully Home actually works....I'm cautiously optimistic, even though Sony has never given me any reason to believe in their online strategies. They had years to prep for the PS3, we should have had Home at launch if that was the direction they wanted to go.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
It just sucks that the functionality we want is being held up so we can wear Adidas shoes and American Eagle t-shirts in our virtual world. I love Adidas, but I don't care what my avatar wears. I guess for me the online functionality is so unintuitive (well, not as bad as Nintendo, but we won't go there)...They've had this in the works for at least a year and a half now, there's no excuse.

It also amazes XMB wasn't implemented at launch. We know it exists because videos dated back to early 06 show it in action in video games on the PS3. So what the hell happened with that... support was thrown else where. My assumption here is Sony threw resources at the HD format perspective of the PS3 instead of the gaming division.
As far as XMB, independent developers such as Ubisoft are making their own XMB for their games because of the lack of Sony stepping up to the plate.
I do agree with you, delays aren't acceptable; especially in IT. Even if something isn't complete, you release it and patch it later as long as it has the basics as required. You build something as planned. You don't build something and continuing adding new features as you go because it will never get finished. Unfortunately Sony wants to release a bug free product with every feature possible. As the SCE president said himself, Home will be released when I'm pleased; they need something and they can't afford another delay. This thing techincally won't be released officially till 2009. Fall will still be a beta, an open beta but still a beta which doesn't make it complete. Shown in 07, released in 09 and all it really is is an online application.
Even people like Peter Moore are yelling release Home already. Consumers, developers, everyone is losing their patience.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Could be intereference I suppose. Try getting a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter for the plug in on the PS3 or TV for that matter but more the PS3, it could be a ground loop thats causing it. I had a very similar problem as yours when I first had the PS3 and this fixed it for me, so it could be it.Comment

Re: Official PS3 Discussion Part III...
Being rumored that trophies will be part of the 2.40 update next month. 2D trophies in the XMB like achievements. 3D ones will come once Home does.
Thing is, developers won't get the 2.40 SDK till late June so we still won't see them for a while I'm sure.Comment
